Thank you so much! Being a seasoned beach fisherman for many years, I decided to start lure fishing this year and after having been a half a dozen or so times trying various techniques and lures I drew a blank on every occasion. After watching your video I was inspired so gave the Mega Bass Zonk a go this morning. There were three of us lure fishing at low water off the Hamble river shingle bank and we all tried different lures without even a hint of a bite. After about an hour I switched to the Mega Bass Zonk and after a few casts with it, bang!... a nice 3lb bass. ;-)
Brilliant lure and works really well, expensive lure but if you get hit with a decent size bass sometimes the floating bib breaks , although it is a good lure to have in your box 👍
Not sure? Thought I might have seen this vid before? Is this the first time you have shown it ? Love the zonk 😊 expensive yes miss the one's i had , thanks to the light fingered scumbag that nicked all my lure gear rod & 2 reels. Got a few bits in ready to start again, ebay is wonderful. Question, if i may , why 30lb braid ?? I tend to go a lot less around 16 / 20 . Am i right in thinking that if you used 30 nylon you could halve it for braid ? Or have i got it wrong. Will be keeping my eyes open along the foreshore for you know who. May not be down to much through the winter but for shaw in the early part of 24. Hope to see you one day all the best mate Cheers Les.
Hi Leslie, yes you can definitely go lighter on the braid…. It really depends on the action of the rod. My Apia foojin loads so easily when casting it would cushion lighter braid very well. I wouldn’t be as confident of using lighter braids on stiffer blanks like the shimano exsense. I never use monofilament as leader , except for surface lures. Personally I think 24lb braid is the sweet spot …. I’ve been using Berkley sick braid recently and think it is very good value for money
I've got three zonks, but lack marks that are deep enough to fish them. I can really feel the difference in their action on retrieve, so I'm willing to believe their reputation is deserved.
Hi there, thanks for the video, the underwater footage is really great. Is there any chance you could do another video of how to retrieve the zonk. It's difficult to see how fast you reel and how you twitch the lure as your hands/rod and reel are out of view most of the time. Lovely clear water there. I have the Rainbow Pearl Zonk but yet to catch on it, need to find some deeper water so I don't snag it and give it some proper water time. The IMA Hound Glide did well for me earlier in the season in Bora colour, since then jighead Sandeel lures have been really productive especially at night.
I'm new to bass fishing and I have a question about this lure if you don't mind? I've been fishing a few spots along the north Kent coast from faversham to reculver and I want to use one of these lures but when I'm looking online at them the description calls them deep diving lures. If I'm fishing e.g. from reculver in 4 feet of water am I going to snag up or can I retrieve slower for a shallower dive? Does a slow retrieve work well with these? Apologies that was more than. 1 question. Tha KS on advance for any help you can offer
@@tripp2dope hi , ok this lure isn’t great for shallow water as it sinks and dives relatively deep (hence snagging up all the time). Get a fishus espetit in white flash
Yes they are over priced….. but they happen to be one of my most consistent lures for bass. If your investing multiple hours of your time on the bank , I want to be confident I know the lure catches
Nice video I personally think your fg knot method is bit complicated, ive done a lot of research and the fg knot that i use is this one ua-cam.com/video/ZPTzkep9xlI/v-deo.html The fg knot from saltstrong its the simplest and strongest and i can very easly tie it when im out and its windy and dark Also I know some people dont like it when youtubers shows their local marks on yt i dont mind but some people do, just something to keep in mind cuz in the last clip you could see where you were fishing Apart from that great video
Hi mate, I thought I had edited any landmarks out of the video! But yes I don’t mention location and try to keep the camera on the water to protect locations. I will check out the link for the FG. I learnt the FG when GT popper fishing in Australia, but I agree it is a complicated affair, so a simpler solution would be welcome. Thanks for watching
@@Roy-z2b here is the trick , tie a loop knot in the end of your braid . Pass this through all the guides of the rod and then back down and loop this around the reel handle. Gently tighten the line until the line from the tip guide to the loop knot around the reel handle is taught (like a bow) now you can easily do the FG knot as the mainline is nice and tight
I learned to tie the FG, and Rizzutio finish, on the beach, but have never needed to as I carry a spare spool for those odd occasions when I'm cut-off, or need to pull for a break. I consider a well tied FG knot unbeatable, and think it is only laziness that makes people consider other, inferior, knots.

Great, love the Alva shirt as well 👍(you still skating)
No I stopped a while back…. But I’m trying to build a small 1/2 pipe in the garden for my daughter
A very productive lunchtime session 😀 The water looked particularly clear. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Andy, yes it was crystal clear that day….actually quite hard condition with that water clarity and blazing sun…. But the bass seemed up for it

Can I ask where you got the neoprene/elastic rod sheath? Also, caught a lovely 51cm Bass on the Zonk on Saturday Southbourne 😊
They are made by lucky John . Contact dave mutton on Facebook or specimenfishing-uk.com

And I forgot to add thanks for a useful video, I've subbed in case you decide to renew your output.

Thanks mate, I tend to work it pretty fast… I will reel fast and then 1 or two knock of the rod tip by breaking the wrist
Hound in bora is the ultimate slayer

@@theoccasionalangler6956 Many thanks for your prompt reply and great vid
Brilliant lures but if there is weed about forget it !
I think that’s true of most lures, including a lot of weedlessly rigged lures, it just catches around the clip
@@theoccasionalangler6956 very true but they are quite deep divers. I filed the bib down little so it doesn't go to deep.
