Another great well put together video Matt. Night fishing is often the only way at the busy places, but can be very productive. It's a rather addictive though, if you're not careful you'll be out very late untill 3 or 4am, or up very early! My tip for night lure fishing is don't cast far, they come in very close especially when it's calm. Most of my best fish have come within 10yards at night, so I don't cast straight out but along almost parallel to the shore if it's calm, slowish constant retrieve to keep the paddletail thumping and the Bass will find it. My best fish this year fell to this tactic and my best few last year the same. I have yet to catch on hard shallow diving lures at night, but have caught on surface lures. Weighted soft plastics are my usual choice.
Yet another good and informative video Matt, I would agree that sunset into dark and in some cases through the night brings out the bigger fish. A few things I have found fishing in the dark is you can slow down the retrieve of your lure, and if you must use a headlamp then make it one with a red lamp and don’t flash the water to often if you can help it. Keep up the good work it’s much appreciated, can’t really understand why you don’t have more subscribers as you communicate with your audience really well. I suppose persistence pays off in the end.
Thanks appreciate this full comment. Agreed with a slow retrieve I need to look at red Lights too not really considered that. - I think I do have some great subscribers though very genuine bunch -

Great video Matt. I used to fish a lot with bombarda at certain marks, I found dependant upon retrieve rate needed a light jig head eg 1g to keep say small shads down. Also feather cast reduces tangles. Good method.
@@paulhiggins8774 Some of these things are hard earned and I stand by them but it’s really worth challenging assumptions when you start especially as you are fishing a different area
@@SaltwaterAngler for some reason down here I seem to catch everything on a surf seeker 🙈tried everything else and different methodologies but either a straight retrieve or a spin stop. Another great, informative video. I recently caught my first bass on a lure, something that I had always wanted to do, from Eastbourne pier. It wasn't just that bass that was hooked; I am now obsessed with catching more, they are just amazing fish. I live in Surrey, around one hour twenty from Eastbourne, and have spent many years chasing barbel from rivers. I have never been one for sit and wait fishing and prefer to take a roaming approach with as little gear as possible, so see lots of parallels between what I have been doing and bass fishing, which is one of the reasons why I think it appeals to me so much. I am in the process of getting some gear together based on your advice and will be down to seek out some spots very soon. I must admit that I am a bit nervous about fishing some of the areas due to the risk of being caught out by the tide. My son, Lewis, who fishes with me is yet to catch a bass and I am extremely excited about hopefully seeing him catch his first one soon. There is so much to learn, thank you for all the solid advice in your videos.
That’s interesting to know thanks I was once in Surrey just over an hour away too. Maybe start from shingle beaches but definitely utilise your barbel skills in the sea I’m sure you have a lot of transferable knowledge there
Thank you, hopefully l will get away from work and get on a shingle beach next week. I just watched your video from today and just can't wait to get out and have a go. However long somebody has been fishing the passion is always there which one of the reasons angling is such a great thing to be involved with. My dad first took me many years ago, l took my sons and now my grandchildren love it too.
Great stuff, 'Mr. Bassman'. The tips u kindly share are clear & well-explained. Valuable info indeed. Thank you 👍 from Barcelona. Tricky here, as the Med's coastal waters are slowly becoming almost barren, but still some white seabream.!

Hi, we make the Gobble Sticky. You should use that version you got there for the sea trout. It does catch all sorts but are made for salmonids. The SV 4.9 version has accounted for the two latest norwegian record bass. 🙂
Fishing in The Netherlands for bass. Coastline is very different here but in general your insights are vey usefull here as well! This year i had my first succes at night, every other cast I caught bass during ebbing tide arround 02:00h. Definetly worth the try! Hey Matt! Thanks again for this new video; it's a great one! Hi Mat, great video, very informative. Could you tell me the best way to handle bass without getting injured? I caught one the other day, had hold of the bass while removing the hook when it flipped, and gave me quite a nasty cut. Cheers.
Great video as always, a couple of questions if I may. When lure fishing at night do you find any difference in success rates between surface and sub- surface lures? Also, have you ever tried the Megabass Sleeper Craw? I have watched several UA-cam videos posted by French anglers on the effectiveness of these lures which seem quite devastating under the right conditions. One of these videos featured an angler sight fishing for bass in both estuary and harbour environments around the Brittany coast where the water was clear and shallow and the takes were all induced by casting close to the bass and then twitching the lure with some spectacular results. Just some food for thought.
What a terrific comment thanks , really good ! Yes I have been using it quite a lot but I think it’s a early season lure here in Sussex so up till mid June say and the bass are nose down. Still lots to learn and experiment with. Will check out those vids nice one
Nice one Matt, learnt alot from this video! - probably a silly question , would you cast your lure rod like a normal beach rod with the shock leader knot in the reel still ?? or would you cast with the knot past the last eye of the rod? hope that makes sense lol Also been using 20lb daiwai j grand braid with a 22lb fluro leader but getting terrible wind knots and crack offs all the time on my main line not sure what im doing wrong - checked the rings for any damages / line looks fine. Also would you recommend using american style snap swivels or spinlink clips
Some Good questions there - A well tied Fg knot can sit between the rod rings or off the end tip. Making no real difference to the cast. So 5ft is ample (from the shore) It will always be a bit easier with that knot already passed through the tip ring though as you say. With wind knot; Check casting Bad batch of braid Line lay on spool Twisted braid
There is a real mixture of venues here in this footage from rye to Seaford. If you are looking for marks I genuinely think a lot of shingle beaches fish well just before high tide. Sussex has a great mix of ground. It’s hard to recommend specific marks because the dangers of being cut off or a dodgy approach will be problematic!
No lure fishing here in the upper Bristol Channel, but I am starting to experiment with a bombarda float to put a bait in certain places and keep snags on the bottom to a minimum. Already had decent bass on a standard float and weight setup. Will be chuffed if can pick something up with this bombarda technique - as long as it isn't a seagull...
Thanks for the video and tips, I have been starting to do lure fishing since last year on open beach like Dungeness but I haven't managed to catch one yet, I have tried twice this year but still no success. I have a question and hope you can help, when you lure at night do you use any kind of light attached to the lure to let the fish see the lure or the fish just sense from water movement in the dark? Thanks.
It’s in this video! It’s an option but the bass will feel the vibrations at night and the Silhouette from below the lure on clear nights - be confident the bass will find a lure at night
