    Just so everyone is cleak K=Kelvin, which is a rating of COLOR tempature only. It is not a measure of intensity. A 6500K light appears yellow, a 10000K light appears white, a 15000K light is blue, and a 20K light is purple. Watts is also not a measure of light intensity, only power consumption to produce the light. lumens is a measure of light intensity, and is how you should rate a light.

      +Aquarium talk TV I took the time to post this because the natural color of the sun is more yellow dominated (lower K) but obviously covers the full spectrum. It does a great job growing corals, really the best job. Most blue hue aquarium lighting is for our pleasure, not the zooxanthellae. check out GARF.org for further reading on the topic.

      I purchased a small bubbletip 3 nights ago, and it initially buried itself in the live rock, but it's rearing it's head and is coming out slowly but surely. I really want my Amphiprion ocellaris and my black and white ocellaris, (who are a pair) to take to it. I'm unsure how to go about it. They shared a tank with a condy anenome before and paid it zero mind. I feel i may have ruined anenomes for them by having them share a tank with a condy.

    • @CandyCoralAquatics

      Sage as you know an anemone is a living thing that well will do and go where it wants lol. give it some time, it sounds like it's just adjusting itself to the tank conditions. it depends a lot on flow, and lighting. if the flow or light is to strong, it'll try to shelter or move itself away. long story short, it may take days or weeks until it has found itself a suitable spot. I have had anemones that never moved and there where right where I wanted , then some that never seem to sit still. you can try placing it somewhere in the tank and see what happens. clowns and anemones are hit and miss. clowns usually take to bubbles and long tentacles before anything. just try to persuade them. but be careful because if the anemone is smaller than your fish, the fish can stress it out and kill it

    I try to create the most realistic ocean I can. Its important to offer what would be on the reef normally. I add calcium, magnesium, iodine, and other trace elements that created a stable environment. A lot of reefers don't add anything and say everything looks fine. Although this can be the case you have to remember that in the ocean there is a constant resupply of elements and foods. That's why using a good salt mix and additives are important to keep a stable environment so everything can take what they need and not just survive but flourish and grow. Anemones are very delicate they require different foods, strong lighting and good water quality. Hope that helps subscribe if you like and if you have any questions just ask.

    I bought a green bubble tip anemone about 4 weeks ago. It looked great and the bubbles were plump. After introducing it to the tank, seemed to hide from the lighting, and move from high up to low in the tank. I check the water all the time and it is perfect. All I have is two clowns, live rock, no corals. Some clams, snails (that reproduce), crabs and a little bit of aiptasia. The bubble tip split 2 weeks ago. Now both hide, barely exposed to any light and the bubbles are still bright green, but are shrunk and all is compact and small. I heard I should not feed it for a while and let it chill out, since it is new to the tank. What do I do?

    • @CandyCoralAquatics

      greg simcakoski how old is your tank? What kind of lights do you have? What’s your lighting schedule? How large is the tank? And what are your nitrates, phosphate levels

    • @gso4469
      @gso4469 5 років тому

      @@CandyCoralAquatics almost 4 years running. 55 gallon. Nitrates and phosphate are near perfect. I check every week. Plus, I go for a double verification bringing in a water sample when I go for food or to browse. I first had Current USA Orbit, when I tried a bubble before. Found out this wasn't all that great of light (not enough PAR), but that nem did the same thing (move low) . So, I put 2 on the tank. It didn't change or move. That nem lasted about 3 months then withered away. Got this new nem, left the lights off for a day or two. Then turned them 10 hours on. It moved low and into the shadows. So I got some new high PAR full spectrum leds lights. Both moved and are squeezed, barely into the light, into gaps of my live rock.

    • @CandyCoralAquatics
      @CandyCoralAquatics  5 років тому

      greg simcakoski OK definitely sounds like it might be a lighting issue, what other kind of coral you have in the tank and is it doing well? Because if you’re wanting us to clean it will actually cause stuff to die. I know everybody talks about having super clean water and low nutrients but the fact of the matter is you need some in the tank.Is the spectrum that your light produces pretty even? Or does it kind of look like a disco ball in the sand bed? Could also be a flow issues to much flow

    Here are my aquarium parameters
    Salinity: 1.025
    Ph 8.02
    Ammonia 0ppm
    Nitrites 0ppm
    Nitrates 0ppm
    Tank habitants: 2 ocellaris clownfish
    Equipment: power head filter,protein skimmer,wavemaker,water pump
    And the aquarium has been running for 7 months I really want an anemone and I have been doing a lot of research

      Hello Eagle Aquatics, the kessels that were displayed on that tank we're not adjustable they just turned on and off. If I remember right I had two a150w deep ocean Blues and two a 150w ocean Blues. It's been awhile since I've used those lights and since I have had that tank. When it comes to water changes a weekly change of 15 to 25% is recommended. If you have a lot of issues or use tap water up to 50% can also be used especially in an emergency if something was to die or you are assuming poison. On that tank I had it on a second Story part of the house so I did not have a sump. I just did water changes and used a carbon filtration system as well as a carbon reactor which you could use to add bio pellet.

    hey man, im new to marine, and I have 2 clowns and a bta. took a while, but the female is starting to host the anemone, but seems to be a bit selfish and isn't letting the male join her. im wondering if its because the anemone has pushed itself into a bit of a cave and they maybe can't both fit in the exposed part, any ideas? thanks man love the videos :)

      If they anemone is in a cave be watchful of it, it could be dying, also its possible that the female hasn't accepted the male fully yet, if they are similar size they might be fighting for dominance. Only thing you can do at this point is watch. Keep an eye on your lighting and water parameters. Make sure that anemone isn't dying

    I received a Red Sea reefer170 as a gift and want to do a very basic reef set up No hard corals just like leathers mushrooms hammer so on and an anemone. So for the question would an al prime be ok if I were keeping the corals in the middle and up a bit in the tank. I will put the anemone in first and let it settle in

    • @CandyCoralAquatics
      @CandyCoralAquatics  8 років тому

      correct me if I'm wrong but I believe it's a 9 gallon setup correct? to answer your question after looking up the specs for that light if I have the correct light that is it appears to be a smaller light that says it's capable of penetrating up to 12 inches. Since I'm not sure of the exact dimensions of your tank you need to keep the depth in mind. I believe it said it will cover 30x30 with the depth of 12 inches. if your tank is indeed 9 gallons this would be a suitable light. however its my job to caution you on keeping an anemone in a 9 gallon tank. with proper water chemistry, lighting, and feeding a small anemone can very quickly become a large one that will split into two or more. that being said it will not leave a lot of room for other Coral. also an anemone is not a Coral it is an invert. that being said it has a foot on it that allows it to move wherever it wants in the tank. once it finds a suitable spot where it is comfortable it shouldn't move. you need to keep this in mind due to the fact that you have a small tank once you place your other Coral you're anemone can easily move over the top of them or settle next to them and Sting them. I'm not saying that it can't be done in a 9 gallon I'm just saying exercise caution.

    • @CandyCoralAquatics
      @CandyCoralAquatics  8 років тому

      +Kevin OKeefe ok so if the tank calculator I used was correct its about 50 gal. at that point if you want an anemone you'd need a different light. anemones are moderate to high light but it also depends on the nem. any kinds in mind?

    • @CandyCoralAquatics
      @CandyCoralAquatics  8 років тому

      +Kevin OKeefe lol all these tank calculators are different, if its a true 36 you should be OK. if you interest in Dave some money and getting a good light, check out evergrow lights. some people also call them black boxes. you might like the look they give your coral better. you can adjust them also. coral responds really well to deep blues. that's when you get your jaw dropping colors. if you need anything else just ask. I make videos for people as well if you need something explained or you'd like to see how a setup happens. if you have a sump you'll want a light in your sump that comes on at night when your main tank light is off. this will allow a more constant ph. if you have any questions on setup I'll be more than happy to help or make a video.

    Hi, thinking about adding soft corals and a anemone. Is there a supplement bottle on the market that's like a all in one iodine, calcium, etc...

    • @CandyCoralAquatics
      @CandyCoralAquatics  5 років тому +1

      Ulises Rodriguez hello and thanks for the question, In all honesty you never want to does anything that you are not testing for. As always make sure your water parameters are good before adding anything and make sure that there are no hitchhikers on what you add. To answer your question about an all in one like I said don’t dose anything you aren’t checking for and as far as iodine is concerned iodine can be very very potent. They sell it as it’s own thing in a bottle with a drip applicator so you can add specific amounts of it to the tank because if you add too much we can make the water toxic. To be honest it’s best to buy these chemicals individually so you can test for them and then add them when necessary. The entire key to this hobby is keeping things stable. Your coral will adapt to the tank environment. Therefore if for some reason let’s say your tank is low on calcium so less than 450 and let’s say it always runs at 300 that’s fine the calls will adapt to that just make sure you keep everything stable and you shouldn’t have a problem. And always test! I hope this helps

If you don't see improvement after another 30 to 50% water change, I would do 8 20% next.

      Ruth Bowers what kind of lights are you using? usually when anything bleaches itself out it due to lighting being to high. remember there is zooxanthellae in these animals and that what gives them color and allows them to make food from the sun. I would asses the other corals as well. if anything else is discolored or not fully opening or if anything is spitting brow stuff out (zooxanthellae being expelled) turn your lights down. have you tested your water to make sure there is nothing off? anemone need clean water and decent flow also. hope this helps get back to me and let me know

      Tank prem's are fine. I wish I could send you a picture . The light that I use is Fluval Sea Marine/Reef 2.0 LED 36-46". I don't have any nitrates at all in there and maybe that is a problem. The test shows 0. I just started feeding the aquarium Kent MicroVert invertebrate food.

    • @CandyCoralAquatics
      @CandyCoralAquatics  7 років тому +1

      Ruth Bowers are lights dimmable at all? your water might be too clean. You should have a nitrate level of about five to ten parts per billion a lot of corals need a little bit of dirty water if you will to filter feed. well I do not believe that anemone filter feed the point that I'm making is it's all an ecosystem. Now I've known of people that have zero parameters like you're stating and have beautiful tanks others their corals don't do so well it all depends on what you have. I would move the Rocks around if you can to keep an eye on them because depending on how large they are if they die they can pollute your tank and crash it.

    • @rbowers565
      @rbowers565 7 років тому

      How to I add nitrates ? I am new to salt water aquariums and love this as a hobby. I have 7 tanks all being fresh water and one sw. I never have problems with the fwt' s and I want to get this one to that point.
      The lights do dim and I've pretty much had them on blue only for the last 24 hours. I've also turned my rocks around that they are attached to so that I can keep a close eye on them. I've heard horror stories about nems when they die or get caught in the power heads and I'm trying to avoid it all.

    • @CandyCoralAquatics
      @CandyCoralAquatics  7 років тому

      Ruth Bowers
      how are things going now? Still the same? And adding nitrates is pretty easy just overfeed a little bit however I would caution you because this can cause algae and phosphates to rise which leads to the algae. how many fish do you have in your tank? And how big of a tank is it again? Sometimes an anenome will bleach itself out if it it's not getting enough light. I've gone into Petco stores and seen some that we're totally white but the lights they had on their tank we're no different than a standard freshwater light so I can only assume they bleached because of no light. it's really a balancing act. as long as the mouth of the anemones is not open or excreting anything just give them time and try to adjust your lighting a little bit. Do they accept food? also depth of the tank is important if you have a deep tank but your light doesn't have enough power to reach to where it needs (par reading) to the coral or invertebrate will not be able to sustain itself.

    • @CandyCoralAquatics
      @CandyCoralAquatics  8 років тому

      no, if you're doing weekly water changes with good salt your all good. the only question I would have for you is do you have a lot of Coral? Or more specifically a lot of hard coral, like SPS and LPS. Coral that build a calcium structure suck a lot of calcium and magnesium out of the water so if you have a big tank full of Coral you might have to dose.

    • @FunkieMunkie6
      @FunkieMunkie6 8 років тому

      I have mushrooms and montipora types but for some reason mag is always low so I do have to dose that calcium usually stays in check. I use reef crystals

      +Whit B sounds like you should be fine. like you said just keep an eye on your magnesium levels. if you find that your elements are being used up quicker has your corals grow or as you get more than just due to partial water changes during the week instead of one big one

    If you know your " water" you would never add chemicals, no matter what. Water changes is the only solution for anything wrong with your saltwater aquarium. I am have trouble making my clown fish to host my anemone please help

    • @CandyCoralAquatics
      @CandyCoralAquatics  9 років тому +1

      Well post chief, first thing I have to know is how big is your anemone? To be safe your anemone should always be at least 3-5x the size of your clown ( you may find other numbers elsewhere ) this is because if the anemone is to small either they won't host it, or they can actually kill the anemone due to over stressing it. So once you have a anemone that is of appropriate size ( already assuming that you do ) next thing you can try is trying to " push " your clowns onto it. If this fails remove the anemone and the clowns from the tank, put them in a bucket of water with a colander like you'd use to strain noodles. Put the nem and the clowns into the colander and put it into the saltwater you removed from your tank. Slowly raise the colander up and allow the water to drain out causing the fish to flow around or lay on the anemone. Sometimes the sting or feel of the anemone sets off that natural instinct for them to say " hey this is where I'm safe this is my home." If that fails next thing is to post a picture on your tank of two clowns ( or one if you only have one clown ) in an anemone. I know this sounds goofy but its like the monkey see monkey do. If everything I listed fails let me know. Also if you ever have any questions about anything at all ( doesn't have to do with the video you comment on ) just let me know and I'll make a video just for you! Thanks for watching :) hope this helps.

Maroons tend to take to a nem quicker than ocellaris clownfish. it also depends on the anemone. what kind do you have? it took my Maroons probably about 3 days my ocellaris clowns took probably about 1 to 2 weeks.
