there are so many standalones in here that i have and have never picked up #shameeee VICIOUS AND COLDEST GIRL AND READY PLAYER ONE AND THAT KIERSTEN WHITE BOOK
THAT SHIRT!!! XD I'm so happy right now, and I haven't even started the video yet! I read A Darker Shade of Magic last month and loved it! I really want to get into more of V.E. Schwab's writing like Viscious! Coldest Girl in Coldtown. YES! "If you don't know Lord of the Rings, hello, welcome to Earth!" XD perfect.
Thanks for these recommendations! I have The Coldest Girl in Coldtown and Afterworlds, but have yet to read them. I will need to move them up in my TBR pile.
I'm so glad you did a video for NON contemporary stand Alone's because those aren the hardest for me to find! Illusions of Fate sounds really good and The Coldest Girl in Cold town is on BookOutlet right now. thanks so much for these recommendations!
Kat, you are officially my favourite booktuber and I always jump straight to your videos in my subscription feed- we've got a very similar taste in books and clearly appreciate the values of story structure, well built characters and smashin' worlds- you make my life so much easier by not having to search around and read 'about' books for hours on end before physically getting around to reading one... Although I must admit, your fab recommendations have (this quarter year) given me a 'to read' list on another scale and I have no idea how I'll be able to get through it. Anyway, long story short; keep up the great work- you rock! Meow (sorry, but you had that one coming!) hah xx
Yes! At the beginning of this video I was hoping you'd mention The Night Circus! It may be my favourite stand alone! But then again, I've not read many stand alones that aren't contemporary! I've been meaning to give Ready Player One a go for a while now, so now after this video, I think I might pick it up and read it!
Thank you for these recommendations! I just get so overwhelmed for some reason when I get a new book knowing it's in the series and know that I will have to get the following books but not knowing when. Thank you!
I always love your book recommendations. Since they aren't the most mainstream books, and there is always a really nice range. I also still have to read ready player one.
Hey Kat! Thank you for recommending "The Coldest Girl in Coldtown." I read it per you recommendation in this video and I loved it. I enjoyed it very much, thank you.
I am so happy to see The Night Circus on here. Also, I think I'm definitely going to read The Scorpio Races now. I loved the Raven Cycle, and this summary of the Scorpio Races sounds excellent.
Ready Player One was one of my favorite books this year. I already ordered Cline's new book that comes out in July. I have written down the other books because I want some more standalone books.
I loved Coldest Girl in Coldtown. It was the first Vampire book I have read in a long time that didn't suck (no pun intended) I kind of wished there was more set in that world and the characters.
Enchanting is truly the right word to describe The Night Circus. Might reread this one at some point. The descriptions of the circus were SO beautiful! ♡ I've been really curious about Lips Touch, so cool to hear you loved it :) I need some more Laini Taylor in my life! Daughter of Smoke and Bone is definitely one of my favourite YA-Series, even did a full review on it.
Thanks to you, I stayed up past midnight reading the Kindle sample of _The Coldest Girl in Town_ and now I have to wait for it to be delivered, before I find out WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN!!! Thanks for the great rec!
I've had The Coldest Girl in Coldtown on my longterm TBR for so long! And now I really wanna read it even more! I don't think I've read any of Holly Black's stuff so maybe I'll have to check it out ASAP! Afterworlds sounds REALLY cool. Aaaaaand now I wanna buy it tomorrow if Books A Million has it!! Thanks a lot! :P Maggie Stiefvater is supreme, but I need to read The Scorpio Races since obviously I haven't yet... D: Libba Bray is awesome too! Beauty Queens was hilarious, so I thiiiiiink I need to check out Going Bovine too :) I just bought The Night Circus at the used bookstore last week!! I haven't gotten around to it yet but I'm excited! Looking forward to more from you c:
Illusions of Fate was so excellent! I loved how Jessamine was so headstrong and sassy. Also I loved the Night Circus and LOTR and Scorpio Races, so pretty much all the ones I've read that you mentioned :)
Thanks for this video!!! I almost never post comments, but I've been following you for over a year now. Sincerely, your number one fan from Argentina ;)
I need to say that I love your eye makeup! ;) But, about books - I'm going to read Vicious, I heared about it before. Afterworlds also sounds great, thanks for recommendation. LOTR is already on my list. ;)
I started reading The Lord of the Rings in English a week ago and I thought it would be very difficult to understand (bc I'm from Austria) but it's actually not that bad :D So if there is anyone out there who learns English as a foreign language and isn't sure if he/she should read it I'd recommend reading it, if you are used to read English books (I wouldn't take this one as the first you read in English)
Hi Kat! I'm wondering if you could make a vlog about your favorite book characters ever? It would be cool to hear your favorites!! You could like name your fave 1. Head character, 2. Boyfriend character/ girlfriend character, 3. Bestfriend character, 4. Sister/brother/father/mother character or something like these...(?) anyway; i really like your vlogs so much 🙏
HIGHLY HIGHLY reccomend these stand alones: Stolen: A letter to my captor by Lucy Christopher, On the Jellicoe road by Melina Marchetta, This is not a test by Courtney Summers, Sea of tranquility by Katja Millay, Easy Tammara Webber, Flawed by Kate Avelynn. You may have already read some but they are sooooooooooo gooooooood!
ahhh Going Bovine is one of my fav books of all time, I wish it was talked about more! I'm at the point where I'm super over YA book to movie adaptations but GB is one of those books that I think would make a really crazy amazing movie if they did it right. But it'd also be hard to pull off. Alas. I really need to give Coldest Girl in Coldtown a try. I've heard nothing but good things about it.
Hey I just purchased Lips Touch by Laini Taylor and Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. I hope that I will enjoy it as much as you did (Fingers crossed) Keep being awesome!
You should read "The Shadow of the Wind" by Carlos Ruíz Zafon. It's one of my favourite books of all time, it's really beautiful, and the story is amazingly written. The plot is honestly so good, and the whole ambiance is wonderful!
kat, could you make a video about your favourite contemporary standalones? also your makeup in this video is beautiful - it looks so fresh and clean. it that makes sense haha d: hope you're having a great day
Geneva Mikaela Thank you! And I've actually made a "Recommending Contemporary" video already! It's like a year old, but if I made a new one it'd be mostly those same books anyways :)
When I finished reading The Coldest Girl In Coldtown I felt like it wasn't complete or something- I wish she would do a short novella or something. I really want to read Afterworlds. The Night Circus is amazing!!! Two of my favourite stanalones are Siege by Sarah Mussi and Shadows on the Moon by Zoe Marriot.
The Night Circus was such a great read! It started out a little slow but then I realized that it made the story better. I really wan to read The Coldest Girl in Coldtown right now :p
Laini Taylor also has a series called Faeries of Dreamdark, the first book is Blackbringer, please please please read it! It's what hooked me on the Laini train back in 2008! I want her to publish the third book but I'm afraid she won't because the first two never sold like the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy.
Lord of the Rings was the second series (I consider it a series because I read them seperately) that I read for entertainment. I'm only eleven, and I really started reading books last year, but I wasn't expecting them to be so complex. Some other series I recommend are Harry Potter (duh), Heroes of Olympus/Percy Jackson, and maybe even Warriors (I didn't finish the whole series because it got predictable, but I enjoyed the first book a lot. It's kind of stupid and it's about cats, but hey, I liked it when I was in fifth grade, and it got me hooked. Although, Fireheart did remind me of Harry way too many times, and that scene in Forest of Secrets is way too much like Star Wars, it is a good book.)
If you haven't already you should read The Archers of Avalon trilogy! It's personally one of my favorites. It's about a girl that lost her memory and meets these two immortal brothers that she may have already known. It's a good read so I definitely recommend it,
I have 'The Coldest Girl in Coldtown' but I think I'm gonna wait till October to read it 😊 Thinking about it now, I don't think I've read a standalone fantasy / paranormal book 😢

I have tried to read the LoTR quite a few times..... But I have trouble getting into it. Personally I find Tolkien hard to read, though I have read one of his books; Roverandom..... I love the thought of the books, but don't like the movies (LoTR), but, because they are such big books, I wanna know if I should give it a chance? Thx
Lips Touch, Yasss. I felt like I was the only person who knew about that book. Ive never heard anyone talk about it. Did an awkward happy squeal when u brought it out lol.
I think Elantris by Brandon Sanderson is an amazing standalone novel. I know he is planning on writing other books but he's not sure if he will publish it. It's just so complicated and the world is amazing.
Tom Bombadil and the Scouring of the Shire immediately come to mind. *shakes fist* Mooviiees! If we're counting LoTR as a stand alone (what about the Hobbit?) then it's definitely on my list. My favourite standalones: A Monster Calls, Warm Bodies, anything by Patricia St John, and I want to say Princess Bride but I haven't read all of it so this would just be my expectation from the amazing movie. I should read more standalones... (Yes, I know Warm Bodies is getting a sequel but I think it works so well as a standalone that I'm putting it on the list - deal with it :P )
I think Lord of the Rings is definitely on my TBR this year! For some reason, as a kid, I always thought the movies would be scary (I was easily frightened), so I never watched them. I've heard such amazing things about them, though, as well as the Hobbit, and my interest is definitely peaked! I know a few things here and there about the books, but not enough to actually have any idea what they are about, so I'd be going in relatively blind!
Is it just me or do booktubers always post at the same time it's so satisfying to marathon gosh
Holly May It's 'cause we spend all day editing and finally finish uploading before we crawl into bed XD
Holly May And sometimes they are gone for 2 weeks at the same time and I don't have anything to do with my life except for reading haha
you remind me of Lily from How I Met Your Mother
She does look a lot like her

YES I thought I was the only one who thought that

Have you read The Spiderwick Chronicles? One of my favorites of Holly Black.

I love when you make this kind of videos! Thanks to you I have now added like three more books to me to-read list.
My favorite stand alone is I'll give you the Sun by Jandy Nelson or even Daughter of Deep Silence by Carrie Ryan
I always love your book recommendations. Since they aren't the most mainstream books, and there is always a really nice range. I also still have to read ready player one.

I finally got Vicious in the mail earlier this month and I'm so excited to finally read it!! Great video!
I am so happy to see The Night Circus on here. Also, I think I'm definitely going to read The Scorpio Races now. I loved the Raven Cycle, and this summary of the Scorpio Races sounds excellent.
As much as I love series, ADORE stand alones! There's just something so special about them!

Thanks for this video!!! I almost never post comments, but I've been following you for over a year now. Sincerely, your number one fan from Argentina ;)
I loved Afterworlds!! I read it in the plane home from BEA HAHA!! But I secretly am hoping it's not a standalone!! I need more!
Loved this video, great recommendations! And may I just say, as a side note, your makeup is on point! :)

You should check out The Cure for Dreaming by Cat Winters! It is a historical fiction with a paranormal aspect and it is amazing!
You look like willow from Buffy the Vampire Slayer/ Lilly from How I Met Your Mother. Btw, eye makeup is on point 👍🏼
OMG I LOVE YOUR SHIRT!!!
When I finished reading The Coldest Girl In Coldtown I felt like it wasn't complete or something- I wish she would do a short novella or something. I really want to read Afterworlds. The Night Circus is amazing!!!

Vicious sounds awesome! Thanks for the recommendation
Thanks for making this video! I'm always looking for good sci fi/fantasy/paranormal standalones.
You talked about Lord of the Rings aka my favorite book/ series of all time ! My life is complete.
Lord of the Rings was the second series (I consider it a series because I read them seperately) that I read for entertainment. I'm only eleven, and I really started reading books last year, but I wasn't expecting them to be so complex. Before I read Lord of the Rings, the first series I read was Harry Potter, and Harry Potter to Lord of the Rings was a big jump for me. Lord of the Rings felt so long, and quite frankly, I wasn't really into them. When I read Harry Potter, I would read all day long, but Lord of the Rings didn't have that effect on me. While the writing does feel a little too advanced for me, the thought that I read it made me feel amazing. I loved it so much, I spent most of my money I had saved all year to buy Sting, and then I bought Aragorn's crown. I really recommend it, and even though it does seem harder to read than some other things, you won't regret it (by Return of the King it's totally awesome!). If you haven't already you should read The Archers of Avalon trilogy! It's personally one of my favorites. It's about a girl that lost her memory and meets these two immortal brothers that she may have already known. It's a good read so I definitely recommend it,
I have 'The Coldest Girl in Coldtown' but I think I'm gonna wait till October to read it 😊
Thinking about it now, I don't think I've read a standalone fantasy / paranormal book 😢
Great video! I love stand alones. I think VE Schwab might be writing a sequel to Vicious?
***** Yeah, I've heard there's a likely sequel, but Vicious still works perfectly as a standalone, so I wanted to include it!
Currently reading Ready Player One and enjoying it so far. It is AMAZING!
I'm loving your shirt Kat!! :D
Ready Player One is my favorite book
Gods of Olympus thanks very much for the recommendations !!!!!!! It was awesome !
I loved Afterworlds! It was such a fantastic book. I haven't read a lot of these which is good because now I have some books I can go pick up;)
eeeeh I love standalones! thanks for the recommendations
Doe read Jon Krakauer books? A movie based on his book "Into Thin Air" is coming out this fall.
I have the Night Circus and I read to page 65 and I haven't finished it. But ai agree with you its very mysterious of how it all goes down.
And also I tried to read Lord of the Rings and I fell alseep as I read it but I suffered through till the end and not remembering any of it. I think it was the terrible very tiny font it was in and it gave me headaches when I tried to focus on the words. It makes me sad that this happened to me while reading it :(
I haven't read any of these..... looks like I need to get on that!
I love kats book reading style but she’s also wearing a LOZ shirt. I love her even more.
Please do videos about Contemporary books! :)
I like stand alones but I haven't read that many, now I can get on that!
The coldest girl in cold town is amazing. It's what started my reading
I love you Kat! You're the best!
I have tried to read the LoTR quite a few times..... But I have trouble getting into it. Personally I find Tolkien hard to read, though I have read one of his books; Roverandom..... A really beautiful book. Anyway, do you think I should try and persevere with LoTR? Even the Hobbit? I love the thought of the books, but don't like the movies (LoTR), but, because they are such big books, I wanna know if I should give it a chance? Thx
Lips Touch, Yasss. I felt like I was the only person who knew about that book. Ive never heard anyone talk about it. Did an awkward happy squeal when u brought it out lol.
Perfect video for when I'm like "I need a good standalone to take a break from trilogies and series."
ikr
(Yes, I know Warm Bodies is getting a sequel but I think it works so well as a standalone that I'm putting it on the list - deal with it :P )
i just finished ready player one! such a great book!
Nice video, thought I can't comprehend the madness in the end. But thumbs up.
Recommend All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven
I've tried listening to the audio book of the lord of the rings but I'm getting the boxed set of the three books and maybe I can read that.
DOSAB is my favorite series but somehow I've never read Lips Touch, Three Times. MUST DO THIS.
Hi I was just wandering if you could do a book review on The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime by Mark Haddon
