I never see anyone ever talk about it in all of booktube, but it's one of my all-time favourite books in the history of ever, and I've read over 1,500 books. Watership Down. Just wow. Solid 5 out of 5 for me. I'll say no more. Great list!
Your passion is infectious, love and light to you from Australia. Mistborn would be my highlight for 2024. Finally found Brandon and I’m off on a fantastical journey with him now.
This year was a great year for reading in my case. I found so many wonderful books and writers. just to mention some of them, Susanna Clarke, with Piranesi and Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, Ruiz Zafon with The Shadow of Wind (all four books are amazing), The Forgotten Beasts of Eld by Patricia A. McKillip, Hail Marry by Andy Weir, and Ursula Le Guin with Lavinia and The Lathe of Heaven...
I’m watching in January 2025 and was totally confused how you were able to read 59 books already then I realized the date this was posted, lol. Love this list!
Yeah, you are definitely not alone! It is a book that has a certain mood / places you also on a mood! It was great for me when I read it! I guess it was the right moment! Happy holidays! ✨
I'm new to LitRPGS I am mostly a traditional fantasy fan and I have to say the Dungeon Crawler Carl series is the best produced audio books I have listened to, not to mention great books in general.
I always re listen to the Riyria Revalations and The Keeper Chronicles every year. I love them both and no matter what new books I read or listen to I always come back to those series.
I appreciate this list much! But it is VERY HARD to understand titles and author names for some of the books, and without a screenshot of the book title, or a link to the books in the description, I am missing what some of these titles are. Can you include those next time, a link in the description to the actual books somewhere, and a screenshot or titles written overlay on the screen with the book title and author name? Then more will watch because more will understand and appreciate your wonderful channel. Thank you! Edit ps: I could not understand the. middle series of the "I reread a lot of great books / series this year..." at 15:05 for example, either :( (so sad I cannot get all these titles I am hearing, you are a fast speaker which normally is fine, but hearing titles and series and authors when they might not be one I know, with very fast speech ,is tough)
I've written 3, 200k word fantasy novels, and people have felt the same as you did about Wheel of Time, asking me how I'd keep the story going for so long. The irony is, the hard part is narrowing it down to the most necessary characters and plots. My plan is 6 books at 200 to 300k, but it could easily be much longer.
I liked Addie Larue too. I loved The Hobbit. I just finished LOTR: Two Towers. I adore the movies and thought it was time to read the books. The audiobooks are fantastic. My favorite book of the year was A Day of Fallen Night by Samantha Shannon with a close second One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Happy holidays ❤
I am currently reading the invible life of Addie Larue de V.E. Schwab .. and a question for you: Why have you the spanish edition instead of the english one? just curious...
It looks like I will have to read Blake Crouch 😄. My favourite book this year is "She Has a Broken Thing Where Her Heart Should Be" by J. D. Barker. Very beatiful thriller story. It has some Sci-fi elements. Altough it has like 700 pages it can get you from a reading slump. Strongly Recommend. Merry Christmas 🎄
@@FunFantasyBooks thanks for your lovely videos. I’m making a list of books to read. I just got back into fantasy as an adult with book of doors last week. I enjoyed it so much. The ending made me cry a few happy tears.
Exact order is a personal thing but of the 6 I have read They were all excellent. Something I just recently read is Spirit of the Wood by Kristen Britain it is a novella part of her Green Rider stories. Kind of a heart warming story full of magic and companionship.
Sometimes I dislike being french for the single reason that there are too many fantasy novels not yet translated... I can speak english but I don't think I would be able to read a whole book without having a headache at the end. Thanks for sharing, many of these are translated.
I honestly thought the same at the beginning- but the more you read, the easier it becomes! Hopefully you give it a go! You do have a great English! (As per the comment!)
Its funny the difference on what Blake Crouch writes now to the past. I read a couple of his early murder mystery/horror books. Be wary of Tolkiens The Silmarillion. Normally I like info dumps in my novels, but it takes it to the extreme IMHO
I know Guards Guards is part of the Discworld series, but can it be read without having read the others? Also, is it suitable for a mature 14 year old girl who loves to read?
I just read Run by blake crouch…. Oh man. It lives up to the title and it is so good. I had so many good reads but there is a scene in this book that had me by a chokehold.
I tried to read Aragon at the beginning of the year, and it just didn’t work for me, probably because I grew out of the age. It was targeted too, but I’m interested in of blood and fire because I love dragons and books.
If you really want to delve deeper into the world of Middle-earth, I can recommend the books from the First Age. The Simarillion, The Children of Hurin, Beren and Luthien, and The Fall of Gondolin
I love this comment! To me her writing style is a bit tropey but I’ve read all her books and enjoyed it (some more than others, CC3 specifically did not live up for my expectations!)
Yes!! In the link in the description you’ll find the Patreon link (or otherwise you can search FunFantasyBooks on Patreon) and whichever tier you pick, you will have access to it!)
I really wish people would be more transparent about how mediocre Of Blood and Fire is. It has some really great moments but does nothing new and almost feels too ambitious. Im always told the series gets better but that doesn’t explain the lack of honesty when it comes to how the first book is represented. Maybe it’s just me but the writing was so juvenile, I consistently felt the urge to send Cahill a Thesaurus. Also half of the dialogue throughout the novel felt so out of place and forced it was very difficult for me to get through the beginning of it. I plan on continuing the series but i need some time to trust the process. Maybe the third book really is as great as people say.
Oi, sou leitor do Brasil, gostaria que os livros viessem com mais facilidade e tradução para o Brasil, infelizmente não são todos que são traduzidos para o Pt-br e ainda não aprendi e nem criei disposição para ler em inglês. Boas leituras!!

@FunFantasyBooks was it a conclusion though? Its more like a set up for the next books... So many great books on this list! I was not surprised to see #1 but did not expect LOTR to be so high! Unfortunately for me, you already know all my favorites for this year because you have already read them, proving yourself the better friend 🥲I cannot let that stand, so putting my library hold on Recursion now.
Nice! Happy to see you enjoyed my books. :)

Hahahah absolutely agreed! I also get it now 🥹! Merry Xmas if you are celebrating! 🎁

Hahaha can you imagine, 59 books in one month 🤓
I just finished Of Blood and Fire this month and truly enjoyed it (I finished The Fall novella last month and gave it 5 stars)
Dark Matter is one of the best books I've ever read. I read it years ago and it's still on my mind as if I read it months ago.
It was such a phenomenal book! Did you watch the TV series? Not bad, but worse than the book IMO! Happy holidays! ✨
I read Dark Matter and Recursion back-to-back; don't know which one was better. Technothrillers at their best.
I have really enjoyed watching your journey with WoT and the live discussion stream i managed to catch. 😃
Thank you so much!!!
The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue was so hard to get through, put me in such a reading slump. Am i the only one?
You’re not alone. It was one of my DNFs
Nope. Every chapter was the same, I don't get the hype!
Definitely you're not alone. I've dnf'd it in 30%. What a snoozefest
Took me a couple times to start it but then I ended up really enjoying it
