    My five

    4: The False prince
    3: Every Percy Jackson book
    2: Seven realms
    1: Magesterium
    Man magestreium is my favorite series ever, hated the ginormous cliff hanger at the end of bronze key, but those three books are the best books I've read so far.

      I meant it as in the way I read Fantasy books, because it were the best ones I ever read. There's a pretty fun Interview with Patrick Rothfuss which assumes why these books are like so much when they are, because he didnt write a lot of scenes that we simply imagined as if they were there. I mean its obvious that this happens with a lot of books, but never in that way to me like it did with those.

    I truly love reading. However, sometimes I find myself procrastinating on things I really like. So instead of reading in my free time I almost waste my time watching OTHER people talk about BOOKs I want to read. I could just read the books myself I would like it better that way anyway but I just stay on UA-cam and tumblr....
    Do you have any advice for me? I really want to change my behaviour :)

      crazytoenail Start off by reading smaller, easier books that don't take too much dedication but are engrossing.
      Then work your way up.
      I entered a slump for quite a while where I wasn't reading much, but then I decided to pick up a relatively short, not too difficult novel and it really helped me get back into the zone.

      Maybe it's weird to think this, but I quite like the old covers! The one with the girl in a dark cloak looking feircely at something to the right of the cover while holding a thin sharp dagger, and thin lightning like designs in the background. There is a background of the city in a pinkish haze.

    • @elpimpi829
      @elpimpi829 9 років тому +2

      when it comes to covers, i always prefer something that is drawn out, that's why i love the hardcover art so much, not really a big fan of the illustrations of the originals, and the uk version i actually only like the first book cover, the 2nd and 3rd one have a real life face on them which i dislike, i hate covers that have pictures of real life people, can't do it. idk lol that's just me

    Pokemon is actually totally right for describing Codex Alera! Codex Alera actually manifested from a bet that someone from a writing workshop posed to Butcher. He said that Butcher couldn't write a story based off of a lame idea so Butcher was like "oh yeah? bring it bro" and the dude said "pokemon" meets "lost roman legion" and then Codex Alera was born.

    I finished The Wise Man's Fear from Patrick Rothfuss' Kingkiller Chronicles in January and I have tried to get into other fantasy books again since, but everything just seems to pale in comparison; everything about that series is just so phenomenal. Hopefully one of these will end my Rothfuss hangover! Anyone have any suggestions which? I'm drawn to Sanderson, but I think it's largely because the YA label does put me off the others because it makes me worry the language will be simpler and beautiful language is something I really look for in a book.

    Hi Regan, I really like your videos. I read a loooot and sometimes I read some books just becouse of you (some of these titles are "to be released" for years in italian, so I read in english instead gaining a lot of time)thanks! Speaking of fantasy: 1.Have you ever read J.R.R. Tolkien's books? This is one of my favourite writers of all the time, maybe "The Hobbit" is a good start. 2.You may also like "Icemark" series by Stuart Hill, a (YA?)high fantasy series that reminds me of the Disney Pixar's "the Brave"+"The chronicles of Narnia" and 3.the "Eagle & jaguar" trilogy by Isabel Allende, a sort of fantasy with a "National Geographic" mood. 4.Finally a female writer:Licia Troisi, "Nihal of the land of the wind" is her first book about a kick-ass female protagonist in a high fantasy world, check it out. I don't know if you've already read them, but I think you may like them. 5.About fantasy but in comics/graphic novel world you might really like "Bone" by Jeff Smith.Byee! (Yes, I also write a looot xD)

    • @CJDangerfield
      @CJDangerfield 7 років тому

      Ellen Hayhurst ik I'm late but basically the author himself is controversial not the book because he's seen as racist and sexist I think

    • @bryna7869
      @bryna7869 7 років тому

      CJ Dangerfield No, he isn't seen as racist or sexist. He's seen as a homophobe because he has spoken out against gay marriage. There were even boycotts against the Enders Game movie because of this. Basically, he's a horrible person because he has a different opinion. smh Personally, I think you miss out on a lot if you only read books by people who agree with you. He has some very good books, with great messages. Anyway, I've only finished the first book in the Pathfinder trilogy, and I agree it is very good. I plan on reading the second book this year.

    I'll admit I've always looked over The Daughter of Smoke and Bone simply because of the cover. I assumed it was similar to The Selection etc >_< Apparently not!
    I've been meaning to read more fantasy, so I will make sure to check out that one out.

    Ahhhh I'm so glad you made this video. I've heard you talk about The Demon King and Throne of Glass many times and each time I get a little more interested. :D I hope you're enjoying your February of reading. READ THE QUEEN OF THE TEARLING for real, though.

    The only fantasy i've read is the first book in Eragon and I'm really interested in exploring the genre! Thank you for all the great recommendations. Graceling, Mistborn, Daughter of Smoke & Bone and Throne of Glass interested me the most. ARGHH HOW DO I BUY SO MANY BOOKS? ( central problem of my life)

    I hope the others book will available in local bookstore here.
    Damn....why all good books always comes late in here? Like...1 year later or 2 year later, like Days Of Blood and Starlight (the sequel of Daughter of Smoke and Bone). Ugh.

    Have you ever read 100 Cupboards by N.D. Wilson? It is children's fantasy but I think you may like it. I absolutely loved them as well as his other series Ashtwon Burials. I won't give you a big synopsis here, but I thought I might tell you about them! N.D. Wilson is a brilliant author and draws a lot of inspiration from J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis, which earns him a lot of brownie points from me, considering C.S. Lewis is one of my most favorite authors ever!

    I recommend "The Kingkiller Chronicles": "Name of the Wind" and "Wise Man's Fear", they are my favorite books right now... but if you dont want to torture yourself waiting for the third and last book, then wait. The author is amazing but he is as slow as GRR Martin.

    Notice you pick a lot of female authors. Also, Mistborn, has a female main protagonist. I'm going to guess you like Robin Hobb? How about Laura Anne Gilman's Vineart trilogy? Very good stuff.

    Hi Regan ! I have a question : I want to read The Mistborn trilogy but I'm kind of afraid it's a little too hard for me : I'm French, and my English is good enough, but for example, Game of Thrones is pretty hard to read, because of the vocabulary and the writing style. SO I'd like your opinion about it ! I'm mainly reading YA in English but I want to widen it to more non YA books !

    My favourite fantasy series is The Old Kindom series. The books are just sooo amazing! I really recommend that you check them out. I am also currently reading another amazing series called Shadows of the Apt. I'm only on book 3 of 10, but so far I'm really loving it and the concept is just so unique. I think I also have to give a mention to The Inheritence Cycle (the Eragon books). The books did have some small problems, but overall they were very good aswell!

    Since you mentioned that you like well written combat in fantasy, I'd really recommend R.A. Salvatore's The Icewind Dale Trilogy. (If you haven't already). there's a ton in the series so far, since he's been writing the Drizzt character since 1988, but the first trilogy is a must.

    I’m about to read one of your favorite fantasies this month: The Demon King by Cinda Williams Chima! One of my New Year Resolutions for 2019 is to read more by giving myself reading challenges. One of my challenges is a book veteran (a book I’ve owned for a while). Well, I’ve owned The Demon King for a while now and it’s time to read it. With that said, I’m hesitant on reading it because I didn’t necessarily fall in love with her debut series which is the Heir series. I’m wondering if you’ve read her debut series and your thoughts on them? After watching this video again, I’m going to give the Seven Realms series a chance!!

    I've added a couple books to my tbr pile, can never read too many fantasy books! I loved The Daughter of Smoke & Bone, my only pet peeve during the book is how secretive everything was!! My goodness, just when they're about to explain something, it takes another 100 pages to actually tell you agh! haha Still loved it, completely agree about how beautiful her writing is. Am reading the 2nd in the series now. :)

    Codex Alera series isn't as good as Dresden Files. (Both are by Jim Butcher for those that don't know). Codex Alera I'm 111 pages into the first book and I just kind o stopped reading it. Maybe I'll get back to it but Dresden Files I'm obsessed with. Probably because it is urban fantasy I do love a good urban fantasy series.

    I didn't get through The Demon King :( I was super excited to read it, and it sounded really interesting, but Raisa pissed me off so much and there were WAY too many love interests. It was also kind of boring :/ Not much happened, and I was 75% finished with it when I decided to drop it. It had been sitting on my shelf for way too long, and I was actually finding excuses not to read it. I think I would have liked it a lot more if I could have just read Han's perspective.

    Hi my name is Ethan Millan I am a new Author and would like you to
    immerse your self in my adventure dark fantasy novel series "The Devil's
    Untold Story". Here is the blurb:
    Welcome to a world where blood,
    lust, power, loyalty, and the desires to kill are taken to their limits.
    Out of the darkness that man’s lust for power allowed to exist, the
    unimaginable emerged.
    From the forgotten legends of ancient times,
    they have been called forth into the world once again, devils. From within the shadows, rogue hunters arise, operating for
    their own reasons but aim for the same goals.
    The devils do not walk unchallenged;
    terror doesn’t flourish without resistance and a battle for survival erupts.
    An age that changed, from peace to violence and sin, trading blood for
    blood, humanity may be lost.
    But from the ashes of destroyed hope a new legend emerges, a figure harboured
    by Death, respectfully feared by devils and distrusted by humanity. A stolen
    child who became devil slayer who became a devil,
    his name is ‘Heartnik’.
    “Try to kill me, if you can, but ready or not, I’m coming for you.”
    This story follows the Main character as he re-discovers who and what he is, while trying to find out who separated his family. While he is discovering who he is he meets Mortus who tells him that the two of them are halves of the same person.

    A fantasy author I can highly (to the heavens) is Robin Hobb. Her characters are just amazing, I could not believe how attached I got to them. She has multiple series, most of which are part of an overall series (not always the same characters) so I'd start with the first one, The Farseer Trilogy. You probably still have millions of things people have told you should read but I cannot recommend these enough. They are just so freaking good, and character driven, and I think you'd really enjoy them.

    Recently just finished Daughter of Smoke and Bone and I am in love with it! Totally agree with how the romantic relationship plays an important role with the overall plot =) I can't wait to start the second book. I read the first three books of the Falling Kingdom series back in December and I have sort of mixed feelings about it. The magic system is definitely interesting, hard to pin point at times, and the politics is super cool to me. But the characters are sometimes meh to me =P. Still interested in the series so I'm not gonna give up on it just yet. Great video! :D More books to add to my TBR lol.
