I recently adopted IRs (From Celestion and Overhammer) and it changed the game for me. The sound improved drastically and helped improve the mid crunch sound as well. Just gigged the TMP with an FR10. Had regular monitor up front (EV PXM 12Mp also great wedge for modelers) and FR10 behind me for reinforcement and it sounded awesome. Really happy with my TMP and FR10. Loved that I was able to tweak settings on the fly. Thanks for making this video.
I wish I still had it but I had to send it back. After posting this vid to a few gear groups, I have heard that the line6 FRFR’s are not very good and that the fender units are great options if you don’t want to pay a lot more for the Friedman or mission FRFR’s.
I had some problems with the mids as well, especially when i went high gain, but for some reason once i used a mono jack to XLR cable into the FR-12 it changed the sound completely for the better and I could dial them back in a lot more without it sounding weird.
I use a pair of small powered PA cabs positioned like a pair of stereo monitor wedges with my Helix Floor. Global EQ takes care of lows and highs I don't want. Or I'll bring my DSL40CR and HX-Effects in 4CM if I want to use an amp. which rig depends on what I'm playing. Cheers!
Nice! Yeah I spent about 5 months gigging with the Helix LT. KILLER unit at a really great price too and my HX Stomp was on my board for years as my main effects unit and still goes to shows with me as a backup amp. The helix stuff is great and one of the main guys behind the helix program (Max Gutnik) actually went to fender and was one of the main big brains behind the tonemaster pro.
@@FastRedPonyCar I had a Helix LT, and was using it so much that I sold it and got the Floor, mostly for the scribble strips...I was able to get most of my money back on the LT IIRC. I also have a computer plugin rig, using a Dell rugged tablet, and Minifuse:1 audio interface, and KMI SoftStep2 MIDI floor controller. Still a ways to go to beat the convenience of my Helix Floor, but it's promising, and kills my GAS for another hardware modeler...I'm used to using Helix so I can get what I want pretty quick. Cheers!
So we've now both used the same stuff and I'm curious on your thoughts on the iridium on it's own vs the Lion? Also, the OX Stomp would be redundant in that setup if you're using the bogner cab, right? Or are you using the OX stomp to send one channel with no speaker sim out to the iridium/bogner cab and the other channel WITH speaker sim DI out to the PA? I've done that and it works great, you just lose the ability to blend 2 mics.
@@FastRedPonyCar Using the Celestion Triple Cone made for using with IRs. Really happy with it. Playing PA speakers and FRFR wedges is not as fun as this setup. Celestion makes two speakers for use with IRs. The Triple Cone is the less woofy of the two.
No one really uses mics on FRFR's. Their job is to amplify an already mic'd up sound. I've got a few other dynamic instrument mics but the Aston seems to capture the broadest spectrum of sound for stuff like this.
Given the Gemini's price tag, I would like to think that it's better but after hearing from several people that the Line6 cabs are pretty bad despite their higher price, there's no telling. If the FR12 is better, I don't imagine it would be a significant enough difference to merit selling one and grabbing the other.
It's always an option (and I certainly enjoy taking my amps on stage) but some players want the simplicity, flexibility and consistency of digital + FRFR. It's why most big artists/bands have all gone digital.
My point exactly. Nothing feels as good as a tube amp that weight less or takes up less space than a tube amp. I've always been a digital endorser for the flexibility, but when I take a minuscule 12" tube combo with me on stage, it feels better. To the point where digital rigs have found less and less use cases for me.

The FR-12 is the best FRFR I have tried and it looks great on stage. Also can't beat it for the price.
More FR12 vids please, enjoyed the deep dive - helping with the decision to buy or not

@FastRedPonyCar am happy to pay, how does the friedman stack up?

Great video, can you upload or explain the preset please? Sounds great!

Im using the UA Lion, UA Ox Stomp, Amp1 Iridium as a power amp and a Bogner Cube with a Celestion Triple Cone.

Hi Great video i think it will sound better with a sure 57 beta. thank you

@@FastRedPonyCar Oh is a FRFR my bad LOL thnx
@@johnerodz7Ahhh yeah for real guitar cabs, I’m always using an MD421 and a 57. They blend together really well.
I have a mission gemini I have been wondering if this was any better

Right, at this point bring a tube amp and pedalboard onstage. Blackstar St. James weighs almost the same as this setup.
