    Combining two 120v sources from each different rooms into one 240v for double the charging speed. Faster than Level 1 but not as fast as Level 2.

    What's to stop you getting electrocuted from the exposed pins from 1 cable in the y-split when the other cable is plugged in and turned on? And also you might want to uncoil the the fiat charger lead from being in a circular coil or it might overheat and melt through ; )

    If the charger works with 240v couldn't you just get an adapter from a 240v dryer socket to your charger instead of tapping 2 120v lines? I suspect you need to have the 2 sockets be on different lines on your fusebox rather than just being in different rooms.

      i actually don't have a working 240v dryer socket. most of the time i just slow charge with the 110v and only use the splitter with 2 110s if i need a faster charge

    I'm thinking of purchasing a used 500E, but the whole home charging options confuse me. Your video has me wondering, just how fast a home charger option can be,
    It stated officially everywhere that with just a regular household 120V outlet, it can take apx 23 hours to charge the 500E from zero to 100% full charge,
    so was wondering in the demonstration you provided, with adding two 120V household oulets, would that mean the total time charging would be
    exactly doubled, or cut in half going from 23 hours apx to 12 hours apx if the battery was completely at zero charge?

    • @thefastlane1
      @thefastlane1  3 роки тому

      Correct, it would be about 12 hours for a full charge based on my video

    Hi. I just bought my 500e in Holland. I’ve got a question.. what’s the normal charging time for the 500e level 2? When I plugged in the cable in the charging station, it said it would take about 8/9 hours for a complete charge, when the battery was almost empty. Isn’t it supposed to be faster? I’ve got a 32a charging cable. Thanks!

    • @thefastlane1
      @thefastlane1  3 роки тому +1

      Here in the US, it's about 4 hours from 0 to full at a level 2 charging station. Perhaps you might be at a charging station with a slower speed.

    • @NatureOfVoices
      @NatureOfVoices 3 роки тому

      @@thefastlane1 thanks for your fast answer! It should be possible to do it faster.. also here in Holland. But I think maybe it’s my cable quality or something like that. I can’t believe it wouldn’t be possible to do it faster. What kind of cable do you use if I may ask?

    • @thefastlane1
      @thefastlane1  3 роки тому +1

      @@thefastlane1 thank you! Yes.. I think you are right. Most of the public chargers over here are 16A and 11KW.. so with 1-phase loading you will only get 3.6 kw / hour. Sad but true haha.

  • @robertpryor7225
    @robertpryor7225 3 роки тому +1

    The outlets would have to be on different phases, no easy way of telling other than trial and error.
    I never heard of using the stock charger at 220 v, sounds risky, but apparently it works.
    Better get the biggest gauge extension cords you can. I had a extension cord plug weld itself from overheating. You're not supposed to use an extension cord.
    If you can get a 220v charger on a dryer outlet, (make sure you get the right plug type) or spend on a level two install it's a better option. Getting a 220 volt outlet installed is another option, then if you want to switch chargers you just unplug.

      Apparently it IS working, since his car shows its getting 240v and the time to charge drops by 2 hours. I believe this is possible because its on two separate breakers, which is the point he makes by taking one extension cord inside the house.
