Instead of that river walkway, try the new multimillion dollar East Midtown Greenway at the end of E. 54th street take the pedestrian bridge over the highway and walk the greenway up to the 59th street bridge. The greenway is totally over the water and not on the shoreline. Few New Yorkers are aware of this new recreation area. The views are outstanding. There are dedicated pedestrian and bike paths on it.
