Battle Of The Crabgrass Pre-emergents: Prodiamine Vs. Dithiopyr

- Today, I wanted to settle a debate regarding controlling crabgrass in the lawn using a pre-emergent herbicide. A pre-emergent is the most cost-effective way to control crabgrass as it kills the sprouts before they germinate. Two products that work wonders at preventing crabgrass are Prodiamine (Barricade) and Dimension (Dithiopyr). Both work about the same but have their differences in price and makeup. We will explore what makes these products different and which one I recommend personally after 2 years of field testing.

Haha I have used a dry 13-0-0 with dimension in early morning when dew was present and had a pretty decent result with its post emergent capability as the dew helped the prill stick to the plant. I believe it was 80 SGN. You’re right though. Liquid with post emergents are always the way to go!
That 13-0-0 is Very similar to what I used. It's interesting you say that, the lawns where dew was present in the mornings, I did notice a similar result. However, I still believe the liquid is the way to go if you want that post-emergence consistently throughout the day; I know, pro problem but something to consider when we all can't apply in the mornings. Also, the pro diamine does stick better in rain events which we get a lot of here following winter. Also, thank you for the kind words!
I haven't used granular on any of my lawns in years. Liquid is fast and accurate.
Prodiamine is my choice… BUT Lesco Dithiopere is granule 13k sq ft coverage bags is on clearance at my home depot for 22 bucks… 😮… I have 26k of turf so price matters….
