  • When you assess your lawn, you need to make sure your lawn need any product you apply on it! PreEmergents are no different, you need to see wether you need a PreEmergent or not. I will be answering some common questions, why does my lawn have spring weeds and I applied a PreEmergent? Can I aerate after I use PreEmergent? Why should you apply preemergents? Why should I not apply a PreEmergent? How to block crabgrass and dandelions?

I just sprayed my back yard with speedzone it's the Besttttttttttttttt, I don't have any weeds in my front yard just some pesky blue grass last spring so I cut it out and sodded those areas , I see none yet, fingers crossed, but its not that bad anyways it dies off in summer

    Good stuff. Even though I didn't overseed this spring, I just used Scott's Starter with Weed Preventer, which uses Meso as its active ingredient. I normally would use Prodiamine, but I had a bunch of Scott's left over from a fall overseed, so figured I'd use what I already had in my garage.

Taking my chances with tenacity and speedzone as the weeds come. Just want to get roots deep. Also setting timers from 20 min a zone every other day to 2 hrs a zone once a week to drive roots. Also picked up 20 bags of purely organic for 3 bucks a bag along with humic coated urea for the spring break throw down.

    I started my lawn project last year, which was soil amendments, core aeration and over seeding. I also had a fair amount of poa annua, so here's what I did this year. My spring preemergent was an application of Prodiamine. My lawn was core aerated and over seeded The first week of September and I applied tenacity. Three weeks later I rolled the dice, and applied tenacity again crossing my fingers it wouldn't kill the young grass seedlings, which it didn't. We received a significant amount of rain so two weeks after that, I applied dithiopyr for my fall preemergent. So far, so good. I knew there was a risk applying tenacity after the over seeding but it worked out well for me. I'm really looking forward to next spring. I know there's a risk applying tenacity to the lawn after germination, and it's possible that maybe I just got lucky.

    There are two sections of my front yard that have been struggling since we moved in. We live in a garage forward ranch home. The sun rises in our backyard and sets in the front. The garage blocks a lot of the sun in the main front and the house blocks almost all of the sun in the near front. They both have been teeth rattling bumpy and weed / moss infested. The grass was choked with debris as well.
    So the plan was to improve the worst two spots. removing the debris, killing the moss and weeds, get an aeration done to open up the soil, boosting them with Humichar and fertilizer, and finally get them on some kind of watering program at least until they recover.
    WHEW!! It’s been a lot of work but I hope it’ll pay of this summer. By the way some of these treatments have been applied to the rest of the lawn as well: pre-emergent, aeration, and fertilizer. I also picked up the last backpack sprayer in the region in preparation for the weed killing with Tenacity in the fall reseed and Speedzone ASAP. The possible is the budget.

    I have a new lawn to seed in the coming weeks up in South Dakota that is a tilled up prairie field. Would you recommend that I spray with Glysophate and also Mesotrione prior to seeding?

    • @TheGreenerLawn
      @TheGreenerLawn  3 роки тому +2

      If you have a bunch of weeds glyphosate is a good first step, it kills anything it drys on, and as soon as it is dry it has no residual kill. So glyphosate then meso and seed or glyphosate, seed meso. Either way will work well.
      If there isn’t anything to spray glyphosate will not kill anything that it doesn’t touch.

    • @TheGreenerLawn

      It will not do anything for roots, if only blocks an enzyme that triggers the seed to germinate, so if they are at the root stage it will no work. But for any new seed, yes, for sure to not let it establish over there again till the sod gets full and healthy!

    Looking for any suggestions as I’m pretty new to lawn care.I inherited a lawn when I moved in & it was horrible.Can’t even list everything that was there it was a menu.I broke it down into 4 quarters so I wouldn’t get overwhelmed & was down on my knees more than a $2 prostitute.I hand weeded everything everyday & became obsessed with it.My neighbor thinks I’m a lunatic because I’m always out there & keep telling them to stay off my lawn.Huge pet peeve I’m sure we all have.Anyway I did the best I could until it got to the point where you just need some help in way of pre & post emergents.I have exhausted UA-cam watching & researching all I can.At the tale end of this year I got hit with crabgrass & I have had clover & white clover forever.I managed to keep the dandelions under control from hand weeding though.I just couldn’t keep up.I got some prodiamine,quinclorac & tenacity.I’m on almost 2 weeks of my first round of tenacity & it bleached after 6 days.I’m seeing results but it’s now getting into the single digits so I don’t think it’s wise to do a second or possibly 3rd application because by then the snow might be on the ground where I live.I’m glad I watched this video because I was of the understanding that I can do a pre emergent in the fall & spring but was going to wait until spring.According to what I just watched I should get one down to stop that spring attack.I’m gonna do another regardless in the spring but was worried about my core aeration but you covered that.I failed to say I did do an over-seed that’s why I used the tenacity & the lawn was looking A1 until the bleaching effect.My thought is next year when I do another pre emergent at 55 degrees should I mix a bit of tenacity in seeing that if there’s any bleaching it’s early in the year so it will have time to recover then turn to quinclorac for any spot treatments so I don’t bleach the lawn & from what I see quinclorac besides killing crabgrass works on much more.Any advice would be appreciated.Keep up there good work.This was one of the most informative videos I have watched that answered a few very important questions out there in the lawn world.Thanks!
