- In this series of videos, we cover making a multiple part fiberglass mold that will include threaded inserts
We are making a fiberglass mold of a Motorcycle fuel tank from a 1978 Kawasaki KZ650SR. This tank is very rare and hard to obtain.

Absolutely amazing! Needles to say that I have a tank of very similar shape (Kawasaki ZRX) to get my hands dirty. Now I feel comfortable to get things rolling, even with todays zero experience
Have fun! I am really glad the videos are of help
this video is useful for me, thanks.

Great series 👏
Thank you, I hope they helped
Muito bem executado , parabéns pelo trabalho !!!!!!!!
Thank you
Around the 6:00 time mark you mention something about the bolts, nuts and threads. Just to make sure I understand: You want the mold to have threaded holes built-in, so then you put new screws in the mold and laminate right around those screws?
One would assume the threaded screw holes would interfere with any vacuum bagging or infusion of the final part, or is this a technique reserved only for wet hand layout?
Already found the answer on EP4. ua-cam.com/video/I5gMAAzOAAY/v-deo.html 🙂
The question about keeping the mold vacuum tight still stands.
@@Apollux I have not attempted bagging with inserts, they are not sharp they are small and can protude into the mold cavity approx. 15mm . if you worry about vacuum leak the inserts could be sealed easily from the exterior of the mold possibly sealed from the inside as well.
hope that helps?
Old time mold makers told me no more than 4 layers per go as the temps can stack up and ruin your part.
I like to consider myself an old timer I have been making fiberglass molds actively for 27 years with molds still in service for over 20 years. It’s possible to have wax build up and cause surface imperfections. I use multiple layers only for new green molds not seasoned molds. Also use a wax that does not have a build up issue.
It's all amazing job but don't speak too much ☺️
