Great content!
Thanks, I need to get back on this project as life has me stalled on its progress. Stay tuned I will get back to it.
This has been an amazing series, thanks for sharing so much!
Thanks for watching and the encouraging comment
It would make sense seeing as you are making these videos to show how you are layering the fibreglass not just explaining about it and showing the finish product would be helpful Are you the person that is actually making these parts?
In this series I recently added production of the tank which is 4 parts and I go through layup ect.
Nice to see the final vid. Good series and well made. Thank you 👍
Thanks for the comment
Nice follow up to Part 1 👍
Thanks for the comment
Good video with lots of information, thank you.
Thanks for the comment! Hope they help you with your project
Wish i'd found this ages ago...so much good information, one of the best I've watched on the process. Well done
Awesome thanks for the feedback!
God bless you, you are a wonderful person I have a question about what is the adhesive used. I want another answer because I am from a country far away from you with many thanks
Resin used for layup and making the compound is vinyl ester resin, I use a fuel tank sealer to cover any exposed fibers within the tank
Incredible work. Thank you for sharing all this valuable information
Thank you for the compliment! Glad you found the video of use!
Very nice work.
Thank you!
Probably the best series I've dug into on the net! I build custom kids pedal planes and am tired of hand crafting everything from scratch. My plan is to make a body mold of them so I can crank them out quicker!
Thank You, I hope they help with your project. For sure will speed up production over one off style manufacturing. You could make multiple molds and really crank out a many per day.
I tig welded 3 M3 screws In the corners of the metal sheets. Drilled holes for M3 screws to pass in the gussets on frame pockets. Added rubber U channel around edges the installed with nuts inside frame.
Still trying to see how you make the mesh triangle shaped pieces in the sides of frame!
Wow....this is awesome...Kawi AR80 Tank is pinholed...I need help...: )
I have making a tank mold series as well follow along. Hope it helps!
Really nice look parts!
Thank you! the ATC came out nice
Do you have any suggestions for avoiding gelcoat alligatoring? I've been doing composites for a long time but still run into alligator issues from time to time. I know the common tip is to not apply the gel too thin. But i've heard others say to not brush usa based gel because it isn't formulated for it. - However you show that there are no issues. Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated!
Yes, here are a few pointers to apply to your wrinkle problem. consider upping your catalyst by a small amount maybe 1/4% also increase mixing time when adding MEKP and lastly increase cure time before application of FG and resin. Sounds like your gel coat is not fully cured either due to low mekp, not mixed correctly and has cold spots, or fg applied to soon not fully cured. What is happening is when you apply fg too soon or to a gel coat that is not fully cured during your roll out for bubbles the uncured gel coat breaks down and wrinkles. Hope this helps
@@iccustomsusa8048 Thank you very much! I will give this a try and let you know how it goes! Appreciate your reply! 🙏🏻 - You do great work 👍🏻!
Underrated. Deserves more subscribers 😊
Thank you for the comment!
@@iccustomsusa8048 question man, do you really need to use a gas tank sealer?. I am from a country where por15 isn’t available. Was wondering if the resin could withstand or resist petrol for a very long time.
@@erickneilnoveros6525 there are 2 functions for a tank sealer in this instance. It is not only for petrol/ethanol resistance it also is to cover any potentially exposed fiberglass fibers at the surface you can’t see with your eye. Those exposed fibers act as wick’s and slowly transmit fuel throughout the fibers within the tanks structure to open edges. Ruining any paint work. You could use many other tank sealer brands available. I have used por 15 and epoxy sealer
@@iccustomsusa8048 thank you man. You are very helpful
No problem
What is the name of the glue used? Does it really prevent petrol seepage?
I use por 15 tank sealer. Yes it will seal any exposed fibers.
Man, You really inspired me and now I finish my mold, thank u very much to share your experience!!.
That’s good to hear! Glad the videos helped
What kind of media do you use?
I mainly use black diamond from tractor supply as it is very cheap. Great for old paint and rust. It is dirty and you have to clean the filter a lot. But I also use Aluminum oxide and soda.
Si ce u have a mold....how about a tunnel adapter for an fxr
Not really sure what a tunnel adapter is.
looking good!
Thank man for sharing, I really like to know if the Vynilester support the gas!!.. plz update later.
Yes as noted in the series. it is far superior to polyester resins. Vinyl ester resin has a greater resistance to fuels containing ethanol
I just found your channel. This is a great build. Thanks for making the videos.
Thank you Sir!
You make this look easy ! Thanks for teaching
Thanks! I have made 1 or 2 things in my past ;) Glad you liked the video.
Just ordered this. Thanks for sharing the info. I have to turn off the overhead lights when I blast so i can see better. Do you do that?
No, Since I painted mine with white "Flex Seal" I can see better than with the dark blue. I do plan to replace the Fluorescent bulb with brighter LED's
this video is useful for me, thanks.
Great glad it was useful, I am in the process of finishing a layup video for this series as I was asked to make one so stay tuned. Please subscribe for new content notification
i subscribed 🙂@@iccustomsusa8048
I did not know that it was nessesary to process wiht vinyl ester resin.
Not necessary If your fuel does not contain ethanol. Ethanol is bad for certain plastics and polyester resins is known to be affected. Vinyl esters are not as affected.
I loved this “one-off” series of videos Charley. Thx so much for taking time to show us your method of forming these parts. I’m jealous of your skills and builds. My XV build is coming along well and you have giving me lots of ideas for my body panels.
Awesome glad they were helpful! Also I have a website and starting to offer some custom parts for the XV viragos ICCustomsUSA.com
Hey I just got the same machine and Jm looking to convert it to mach 3. Is there somewhere I could reach you?
You should be able to send me an email under the About section of this channel
@@iccustomsusa8048Can’t seem to find ur email anywhere else i could reach you?
Pretty much missed every important step-
That’s not good. Hope it was not a total loss
Are you able to customize any kind of shape front ferring ?
Yes, and I have no 2 bike have been the same.
Just great. Inspiring although I could never reach your level ;-)
Thanks You! I would note in order to build to a specific level first starts with just starting from somewhere and learn from your hands on experience. Go for it!
Good job thanks 4restoring yamahas golden goose ♡
Thanks! It was a treat
can buy bigger tipped gun for primers..etc..
It is possible I have never looked. For me and my small molds this mod works well for me. If I need more I would go to a cup gun
Did you design that control pcb yourself? It looks really nice. Is that something you are planning on selling at some point?
Thank You! Yes I did, I am slowly getting things listed for this ATC from plans to parts on my Website iccustomsusa.com
@iccustomsusa8048 sounds great! I will keep an eye out on your site then!
@@beans8615 If you would like to see something specific offered let me know. This is just my hobby side gig to aid in funding hobby related projects. Thanks Again!
You're obviously very skilled and experienced, it's a shame that you spend all of the time in the video talikng about what you're going to do or have done, it defeats the purpose of which ought to be showing what you are actually doing, I'm not sure I see the point...
The video is listed as advanced. So basic skills of working with fiberglass should already be known. The video is to point out things that “I “ do and should be taken as a suggestion. Thank you for your comment and suggestion on content enhancements.
@@iccustomsusa8048 I hope I didn't come across as overly critical, you are actually an excellent teacher and very much remind me of my High School chemistry teacher who could always provide the whys and hows in accessible language - Mr Longworth was superb in that regard. Most would be astonished at just how much high school chemistry I can still recall after ~38 years - that knowledge stuck! Anyway your narration of the process could have been over the top of footage of the processes, the knowledge is there. However I realise that you may be a solo operator, so filming whilst doing may be difficult - yes I know everyone's a critic, so please accept my 'suggestions' as being from a kind perspective
Thank you for your input, Truly! you are correct I do this solo and don’t make practice runs, retakes, or trim down hours of extra footage. Mainly thinking on the fly and blurting out relevant information. I do so in my spare time as well as Trying to learn how to do videos. Some people are naturals… I on the other hand am not :) Thanks again
@@iccustomsusa8048 It's all a learning curve for us all - I used to work in film and TV AND I know how tedious editing is and I've got a few other youtube channels that I've witnessed their improvements with time. Now I don't have a youtube channel, would like to, BUT it's work - so 100% appreciation of anyone doing that work and sharing their knowledge - thank you
What was your rough total cost to build your own tool changer?
About 1k and some time. I also built my own electronic interface boards.End result has been a perfect running ATC! I love it, been flawless operations since. Let me know if I can help you
Anyway you can post a link for the button seat latch?
eBay search hood quick release and you will have a selection
good stuff, in one previous video you mentioned changing regulator in original alternator. Have you found solution to exceeding voltage ?
Yes the regulators ( basically a chip)I found on EBay put the voltage within a usable level for the lithium battery
Outstanding job! This is/was a great series. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you, Sir!
very nice job.
Thank you!
Excellent Job!
Thanks Sam!
i've been using this on my first gen SV650 for 2 years. Works fine and looks much better than the original. I recently got on issue with the oil maintenance light though. It suddenly went on and cannot figure out how to reset it. The instructions are not very clear as well. Any idea how to do it? Thanks a lot. :)
I have a 1gen Sv650 and I'm considering buying one of these unit. Is it easy to install?
@@JonasEP I took it to a professional to do it for me tbh. He said it,s been pretty straightforward it u follow the manual. The only thing was the the fuel light which couldnt be connected on gen 1. I just switched it off from the dash.
Nice build! I made a 10 tool ATC for my 440. If it's of any help, I haven't really had any issues with my linear rails on the ATC, my biggest qualm, is that I never got around to building a cover to keep chips off the tool holders. Especially since I used the factory ATC firmware as the starting point for my project, the airblast intervals aren't frequent enough to fully clear chips before a tool change.
Thanks! I plan to build the cover as I have a CNC plasma cutter to cut the material. I am using the OEM firmware i noticed it had a short air blast maybe 1 second. Will have to see if it can be changed to a longer duration.
@@iccustomsusa8048 definitely! Did you go with a pyboard? That's what I used haha. Mainly just had to remap output pins, made it a 10 tool at, instead of the 8 tool tormach normally has for the 440, and played with the stepper motor steps per revolution and stuff as I used a geared nema 17. I may rebuild mine a bit to improve it if I ever I have time, and I'd go with a larger nema 34, bigger driver and a belted pulley setup like yours. Looks great. Making am ATC was the best quality of life improvement upgrade for the tormach for sure.
@@Nordic_Goon Yes using PYboard and a custom interface PCB the PYboard badges too. Really cleans up the wiring and allows use of a small electronics box. Also I am using the Tormach "ATC connector" on the machine for my power and connection to the VFD if in the future I switch to BT
@@iccustomsusa8048 nice, I had just used the pyboard with individual components, but if I do redo the controller, I'll definitely try my hand at a custom interface board. That's something I've been wanting to dabble with.
@@Nordic_Goon In EP2 I show a little on the PCB/schematic I drew up it is relatively small for the number of in/outputs. I am on the 3rd revision after a few drafting mistakes and function additions.
Out of curiosity, when you lay up a tank; can it be done in one complete layup? Or do the top and bottom get layed up separately and bonded together? Hence the flange…
Lay up is separate halves are joined via flanges with vinyl ester
How do we buy the plans when you're done?
You can contact me through the about section on this channel
Nice Job!
Thanks Bud!
pretty interesting project you have going on, how much do you think this will end up saving you from the tormach ATC? you can put me down for buying the CAD from you, also do you have a parts list and suppliers all sourced yet?
In total I have almost $800 invested so I would say quite a bit of savings. Of course there is some extra expense items. Tool bits, extra electronic parts, PCB prototypes, etc… Also I have all tools needed to tackle such a project, CNC plasma. Mig and Tig welders. Powder coating, etc. I am currently working on a website to offer items I make be it motorcycles or Tormach. Thanks for the comment!
