Yeah, I own the MAFEX 1.0 and the ROTJ SH Figuarts but seen this Kenobi Vader SH Figuarts and had to get him. I managed to get him for £73 on a smaller scale figure website, which is great. The MAFEX is just a bit outdated now: - Face is too small (aside the ruby lenses it's just isn't great proportionality) - Beer belly - Plastic robing (why did Figuarts and MAFEX obsess over this for so long?) - Overall weird proportions in terms of the with the hands, arms and body. - Overall dated accessories compared to ROTJ or Kenobi Vader (a swish blade being the only addition, really?) Going to sell my MAFEX 1.0 Vader to make some money back for the Figuarts as the new Kenobi will be my early Vader and ROTJ my later saga Vader.
I completely agree. The 1.5 was a total cash grab and an insult to its customer base. The Kenobi Vader is, to be, the definitive Vader in 1/12 scale produced to date.
Awesome review! Man, it's such a shame, I REALLY love the ruby red lenses on the Mafex Darth Vader. That's far and away my absolute favorite look for his helmet. But the SHF Vader is just better in too many ways to ignore. I'm going to sell of my Mafex Vader and trade up to the SHF Vader
Thanks for making this. I agree that the SHF Vader is the best one in this scale, though I do wonder how well it would scale with the Mafex Luke (I think this is the better Luke figure overall).
@@KaijuDaddyJapan I just got the SHF Vader today. I had the SHF Mando s2 Luke but sold it once I found out that Mafex was making one. If the scaling follows your video, I wouldn't mind my Vader being taller than Luke.
Thank you for this review. I ended up getting the mafex first then saw this and nabbed the figuarts. My mafex ended up being taller - which is odd. Also didn't like how the figuarts can't look left or right that head pops out. Posted a short if you want to see it.
Thanks for the comment. I never grabbed it for some reason. Can’t believe how poorly made it is. I feel like that SHF is a much better figure and overall better value. Praying SHF brings quality back to their Star Wars line
Can't exactly fault Mafex for the limited ankle tilt, because of the shin armor that creeps over the ankles. Also, it looks like you had the crossed-arms upside-down in the pose
It's weird that the figuarts is actually taller than the mafex. It's been always the reverse for me in terms of scale. Also, I don't know why mafex didn't use other fabric for the cape or use fabric for the skirt. The cape being removable like that is also better in figuarts. Also one set of hands less in Mafex. Don't know which are missing.
Very disappointed Mafex didnt go with cloth robe instead of that rigid plastic that makes leg articulation a pain in the @ $$. Especially since Rogue One Vader is a reissue, they could/ should have addressed that issue. I really like the Mafex Rogue One Vader but the plastic robe/ skirt is really annoying.
@@KaijuDaddyJapanNot a problem. Are you planning on getting either of the new Mandalorian figures by SHF or Mafex and doing a video review? Just a heads up, I have the SHF S3 and it is not as good as the promo pics. I think this is one comparison that Mafex can get one back on.
I wasn’t planning on picking up the SHF one only because it didn’t look so great when I saw it in store nor did the promo pics impress me much. I planned on just picking up the Mafex one. I’ll do a review once I do but highly doubt I’ll do a comparison video though.
@@cookedit Thanks for commenting this. From the limited reviews I've been seeing of the SHF S3 Mando, many said it seemed better than what Mafex was offering. I have the Mafex S2 pre ordered so I was worried that SHF and Mafex would just keeping one upping each other with each release. Hopefully the Mafex will be the definitive 1/12 Mando.
@@gianferrer1289SHF did the same thing with their BOBF Boba. The promo pics looked better than the actual release. This Mando S3 is too small in the chest area as there is a huge cut at the arm/shoulder port and the beskar is a dark grey when their last two releases had the perfect shine compared to Hasbro's and Mafex's colours. A few other things, the cloak can come off completely and is the better then any previous SHF or Mafex version, the helmet size is improved but sits a little low, the whole pistol goes straight into the holster now, the rifle attaches a lot more securely to the back then before (but wasn't even in S3) and there's swivel at the forearm bracers, but no way of attaching the flame thrower, whistling birds or grappling hook. Very disappointed. ☹️
Good comparison, thought the vader mafex will just be a reissue and it is. Use the bottom half of the mafex for the figuarts. I feel the figuarts hips are too narrow, that was the only mod I did to my figuarts Vader.
12:41 You said you recommend the shf one but you pointed at the mafex one I’m so confused. I wanted to know which one do you really recommend thank you in advance 😊
Hey Kaiju daddy what are your thoughts on Godzilla minus 1 if you have seen it also speaking of Mafex is there any new about the December releases? Like are they still on schedule or will any be delayed?
I saw it opening day here on November 3. Absolutely loved it. Masterpiece! Have you seen it? I got the flu a week ago and my kids got it right after so I haven’t been able to get over to talk with the Medicom people. Hopefully today!
Darn…. I was hoping that with it being “1.5” that the Mafex would be better this time around….but I guess not. Looks like no improvements were made at all.
@@KaijuDaddyJapan yeah I saw other videos IT’s definitely upside down. You can tell because the arm on top should angle downward at the wrist, and the bottom just tucks in as it would be in real life. Yours has the left arm angling upwards awkwardly and the top going straight in at the wrist where it should angle downward.
The shf scale doesn’t match with the other figures from the same line… we’ve needed a little bit small Vader than the Mafex one, not one taller in 7 inch scale…
Less so recently. This is an updated version (1.5) of the figure. You’d think they would have addressed some of those issues that were evident with the first release
@@RyanByrne999 how does the company pronounce the name? If they call the line ma’fex then that’s the way it’s pronounced. It’s like purposely mispronouncing someone’s name. Believe me though, I understand. I used to call it may’fex myself.
..I'm amazed that the SHF is taller than the Mafex..usually the Mafex is taller than SHF..thanks for the comparison review!
Yes very shocking to me. Hopefully it’s a positive sign of Bandai’s renewed commitment to the line.
Shf looks better I’d say, his body looks more proportional and that cloak hangs so much better hugging his shoulders
Definitely
Helped me decide, gonna go for the SH. Thank you the review. As I said big help.

Mafex needs to update Vader with a new mold entirely. I heard it’s a very outdated mold.

Very surprising on the Figuarts figure. Hopefully Tamashii Nations is reevaluating their mistakes in the line and addressing them now.

The problem with that is that the Mafex legs are shorter and my left leg is a bit wobbly on the joint which doesn’t allow for great posability
