  • Dietrich's show business career largely ended on 29th September 1975, when she fell from the stage and broke a thigh bone during a performance in Sydney, Australia. The following year, her husband, Rudolf Sieber, died of cancer on 24th June 1976. Dietrich's final on-camera film appearance was a brief appearance in Just a Gigolo (1978), starring David Bowie in which she sang the title song, after this Dietrich became increasingly dependent on painkillers and alcohol and withdrew to her apartment at 12 Avenue Montaigne in Paris. She spent the final 13 years of her life mostly bedridden. On 31st December 1990 she spoke via telephone and you can hear this in the video, this would be the last time the public would ever hear from her again, On 6 May 1992, Dietrich died of kidney failure at her flat in Paris at age 90.

We basically all come here to wither and die. The stuff in between is mostly needeness and vanity.
Romantics say love is the one thing that makes all this silliness somehow worthwhile. What a pitiful existence, begging for, trying to attain, and attempting to hold on to this supposed "love" of others.
Life is sad and tragic really, just vain sadness and tragedy.

her voice sounded great, she seems totally sharp and still outstandingly charismatic! its a shame she felt the need to hide away in her old age and life a lonesome life. its the way she wanted it, but i wish she would have felt differently. even though she was ashamed of her looks i am sure she actually looked great for her age. propably even more so without her usual youthening trickery like in this picture.

young and should she have changed anything about herself and ways then,we will never no,but she was a great entertainer, and loved the spotlight on her, rest in peace Marlene you may be gone but your not forgotten ,that's for sure, god bless you amen,🌹😘👍💜💖💏🌈🌼👏😍😘💟👍👏👏👏👏🌈🌸😘

      Yes, of course!
Moderator: Can you hear me or do I have to repeat the question louder?
Dietrich: Yes, I can not hear you. Again the question! ....
I only have the most beautiful memories. I found the UFA Studio in Babelsberg to be wonderful. You know, I’ve never played in an important movie before, so I couldn’t draw any comparisons, but I do remember Mr. Von Sternberg’s opinion to this very day. He came from Hollywood and was spoiled because of the wonderful studios there. When he saw the studios for the first time, while doing the test recordings for the movie “Der blaue Engel” (The blue Angel), he was extremely impressed. But the way the film started, he was really full of admiration from the buildings, from the stages and also from the crew, from the employees, the photographers, from the stage painters etc., etc.. He explained to me why the Babelsberger Studios were first class. I could not appreciate it, since I’ve only played little roles in little movies, but I’ve got the nostalgia for Babelsberg to this very day and I can only hope that they have the success, which they rightly acquired. …
Good bye, I keep my fingers crossed for you. - Marlene
