I'm a classically trained singer and when I sing, I have to be extra mindful about the way I breathe. When I sing is when I feel I truly feel good in my body and my mind. I feel on top of the world, like I could do anything. Breathing is something we often take for granted because we do it all day everyday without thinking about it, but the breath has such a big impact on our mental and physical well being.

Yeh I second that! There’s a huge link there, I’m sure. Just like obesity, mental illness has risen exponentially since the overuse of things like antibiotics and processed foods. Although we definitely impose other stressors on ourselves outside of that stuff, I’m sure the microbiome holds most of the answers to our decline. So many great study-backed books are out there on that topic, and more will come, as we only sequenced the microbiome in the mid-00s!
      Can’t wait.

couldn't anxiety be realising the ultimate frailty of the body, or the fact we are in a pandemic. Or the fact that as soon as we live, we start to die and technically before we know it we will be facing it and everything we have ever done will render potentially a memory and meaningless.... I think anxiety isn't just the type that relates to food haha.

A lot of your videos touch on what my shrink and I talk about almost every other week. Most people don't realize how much awakening techniques and relaxation techniques mesh and overlap. The greatest part is that it is all so easy and it all works! I've tried several medications and most made things worse while the one I'm on now seems to do nothing. I wonder if it would help with attention deficit? I don't even know if I have it. I'm not hyperactive. Impulsive? I can be but not to my detriment. Logic usually prevails. lol The reason I wonder if I have it is because my mind often wanders. It's like I have to make a concentrated effort to lasso it in. It's not that I don't hear what people say. I do. I hear every word, but at the same time my mind is racing with other thoughts. I'm perceived by others to be light and airy, witty and fun, and they tend to be surprised when they discover a more scholarly side. I would like to focus on one thing at a time, one conversation, one lecture, without being distracted if that makes any sense:-) I wonder if the breathing exercise could help? I would find myself wondering what my teachers did in their private lives instead of staying focused on what I was being taught. I think I was bored:-) I would invent scenarios in my mind for each of them. lol The only exception would be if I was intensely interested in a particular topic, then they would have my undivided attention. I tend to be a lot more visual than technical. I'm an artist, not a mechanic, maybe it goes with the territory:-) My friends used to tell me that I was naturally high, maybe that's a good thing because I've never taken drugs. lol

The breath is the most powerful healing modality you have access to, and it’s completely free. Learning breath techniques had such a profound impact on my physical and emotional health. It’s helped me heal from chronic illness, heal my gut, rewire my mind of deep unhelpful subconscious programming, increased my resiliency to stress and helped heal trauma. I ended up becoming a Breathwork coach, it still blows my mind how deeply healing the breath is, after all we aren’t just breathing in air we are taking in life force energy. The fact we can control such an important function as breathing is very significant. Breathing exercises definitely help with relaxation, reducing anxiety and help keep our heart rate optimal. Doctors never recommend these simple measures to help with optimal health as there is no profits for pharmaceutical companies when we adopt natural remedies for our health. I think schools and workplaces should introduce more breathing & relaxation classes to promote wellbeing and reduce stress. Great video Russell, I like your guest's views .. I'm starting to think that being "Aware" is almost a handicap, at times. Consciousness is responsible for every beautiful moment I've ever had, but, it's also been the great shadow of every disaster & sorrow on this planet, in this 3rd dimension, since the dawn of man. It's strange that us humans, at this point in our journey, are willing to try ANYTHING to crash & close & restart our minds. Think about that. (no pun intended) For the most part, we as a tribe of people, are so damn lost, sad, unfulfilled, and wanting, that we're willing to test our sanity & limits, just to possibly achieve & access peace and enlightenment. (No matter how dangerous the pill, method, or teacher) It's bizarre, really. But not you, Russell. You're my boy! We trust you ❤️!!! 🙏✊✌️ Love your channel !!!!!

Thanks for this Russell. I did not know James Nestor, but have been doing Wim Hof since early this year. It really gives me so much more energy and positive feelings. And recently I discovered Joe Dispenza, also a very inspiring man. Affirming what I heard James say about the brain and scientific background for happens in our brain when we rewire. So interesting. Keep us informed, it is very inspiring!

I may get my old wet suit out dust it of and give swimming in the sea in the uk a go now. Iv been inspired. You are blessed to do the things you do these days.

Russell, I liked this very much. My education in breathwork deals with pain control. (I’m in the medical field.) In situations of extreme injury, waking up from anesthesia following a massive surgery, etc. many times you find yourself waiting for orders to be written to determine if more medication can be administered (keep in mind pain meds and pain control are practically a thing of the past in the US). Long, slow deep breaths will mitigate the pain, prevent you from focusing on the pain and assist with relaxation. The beauty of this not just for the practical application reducing pain, but also for the extreme cases as normalizing vitals with breathwork allows doctors to more safely administer crucial pain control AND the pain control meds are more effective.

Breathing is one of three elimination paths in our body. Skin and excretory system are the other two. We aren’t getting nearly enough fresh air and deep breathing to properly rid our bodies of toxins. Would love more breathing exercises- even interspersed with your regular videos. Oh and masks are making things worse but I digress…

I feel like I found my purpose from that experience because everyone in my family has experienced abandonment and all year I’ve been vomiting my truth and now they all have bitter feelings about me. I went through shame and guilt and blaming people and realizing I was allowing others to make my decisions and I was a people pleaser due to childhood abuse. When I brought it up everyone belittled my pain and started to click up around me because I told them my truth. I believed that if I tell them the truth of how I feel we can stop the behaviors on both parts and I can be free of the control of my past. Nope. I was shamed for feeling that others made choices for me. I isolated myself and then on my bday I asked for no one to come over, they already didn’t like me. Instead, my whole family showed up. I felt a bit off because I asked for my space and that was a clear indication that they are not respecting my choice but also they struggle with abandonment. So now that I see signs for what I need to do I’m just following the signs because no one is feeling me right now and I don’t know how to break this cycle of abandonment if I decide to move. But it’s loads of fun lol I knew it was a better way I knew it was something greater than me guiding me but I just ignored it trying to be someone’s idea of success or attractive or whatever. But I’m in it and thanks for all your guidance Mr. RB…a lot of my guides have my initials backwards lol

Breathing is so overlooked. I feel that this does not even have to be so extreme. Just keep up a practice every day will help you. It relieves stress, anxiety, depression, and all these psychological problems we are facing as a species. The reason we have a diaphram and have the ability to breathe into it, is so that we stimulate our internal organs. Four legged animals are always moving their guts when they are walking or running. Ours are stationery. So we need to breathe deeply so we can stimulate our gut. This also stimulates the vagus nerve, which will bring you down into your parasympathetic nervous system, and make you feel relaxed. I have reached levels of Samadhi with my breath work, and this is truly blissful. It is bringing that bliss down onto this planet as an energy and helping others find it that will transform this world into the paradise it should. We are the world bridgers where we can do this. I feel that is part of the reason the material world has become so much of a distraction to take us away of bringing the higher energies down onto this material plane. Makes sense to me. Of course, some people here are not here for that, and would have no idea what I am talking about. Lol. We are all here for different purposes, and that is what makes it wonderful. It is a shame there is an agenda in the background to make us all the same. How boring would that be. Thanks for sharing, great points as usual. :)

When I come out of i feel more present and alert at the same time so connected to the divine. It feels like consciously being plugged into 2 different worlds at the time. I’m going to bed to this❣️

My first time was around 21 y.o. and I truly believe it kicked me out of the most severe depression of my life and opened the world to me BEYOND the physical body. P.S. VERY IMPORTANT not to do it alone or with people who are not trained by Stanislav Grof’s school.

I read his book during the pandemic, and It change my life. I also decided to take my yoga certification and his book was part of my own curriculum. In fact, I always had it with me and recommended it to the other students who were also taking the class with me. However, none of them have read it yet, as I often talk to them and they still have not read it. I feel that people should read it, especially if you’re into yoga, meditation, and breathing techniques and planning on teaching it.
