    I don't have the option to reply to Micha's comment for some reason so I'm just making a new one. Part of the reason I made the video was to help rule out the silly little problems that lead me to believe the MBox2 Mini wasn't working. I have recently upgraded my machine to Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan; I haven't tried to use the MBox2 Mini after the upgrade but I will tell you that the upgrade broke the software for my Tascam US-144MKII. The Tascam looks like it should work (all the lights are on) but it only clicks like a metronome (via the headphones) when you play back a recording. With that being said, know that OS upgrades can affect these USB interfaces.
    If you start up GB (Garage Band) and then plug in a USB audio interface, GB should recognize the device and ask if you want to use it. If it doesn't do that, you either have a device problem, a cable problem, or software problem. As far as software, I have not seen a case where GB (or Logic Pro) was the problem; but where the driver wasn't working with the OS properly.
    I hope that helps. Good luck on recording...Kirk.

      +Kirk Hopkins Howdy, I was wondering if you fired up your Mbox2 yet w/ El Capitan? Like you the upgrade did something to my US-144 as well :(

      +Chris C Bowden Nope, I'm willing to guess that it won't work though.

      You don’t need an ilock. I’m not even sure what that is.

    Hey Kirk, you mentioned you had problems with Lion in one of your comments. I'm using Lion with an Mbox Mini 3. It's getting a level in and allowing me to record, but I'm not getting a level out to my monitors. I'm positive my connections are correct, wondering if you saw anything like this with Lion? Thanks man.

      I've found that when something like that happens it's usually a goof-up on my end. You'll have to narrow the problem down to figure out exactly where the problem lies. Unplug the Mbox and see if you can get sound working somewhere else. Try connecting (known, working) headphones directly to the headphone jack of your computer and play a song in iTunes. If that works, then move on to the Mbox. Now open GarageBand or your recording software, then connect your Mbox, it should ask if you want to use the Mbox (of course you say yes). Unplug your headphones from your computer and plug them in to the MBox. Make sure the Mbox isn't muted (button on the Mbox) and turn all of your settings to half-way up. Play something you recorded.
      If you're still having trouble, it could either be the recording software (try a different application) or the headphone jack on the Mbox could be bad.
      Hope that helps...Kirk.

      Raymond Flores Raymond, it's an 1/8" female to 1/4" male adapter so that I can plug in a 'regular' set of headphones to use while recording. I actually plug in a headphone splitter (Y cable) so I can have the person playing the instrument (which is not always me) can play along with the recording as well as another person monitoring everything. So when I record with a friend, I listen while they record.
      Some headphones still come with the larger 1/4" jack, but most come with the smaller 1/8" jack, in which case, you need an adapter.
      There are no moving parts (other than knobs) to the MBox2 Mini so don't give up on it thinking that it's broken. Give it another shot.

      ok but when I connect it the green light doesn't come on at all and GarageBand doesn't detect it like it did to yours.. And isn't it possible to just connect my regular set of apple headphones to my Mac since I'm the only one that needs to play and hear it?

    • @hopkinks1
      @hopkinks1  9 років тому

      Raymond Flores If you're not getting a green light, you're not getting power to the MBox2 mini. That could be a bad USB cable (semi-likely), or a dead USB port on your Mac (unlikely); you can also try restarting your Mac and then try it again. Otherwise I fear that your MBox2 mini is dead. :-(
      You can use any headphones, but you will need to convert the 1/8" headphone jack (on most headphones) to the 1/4". I only mentioned the splitter as a side note and because I I didn't show it in the video.

      Ok thanks man it is dead I already returned it, do you recommend me buying a new one? Like do you like everything about it? Or is there any other brand that you prefer

    • @hopkinks1
      @hopkinks1  9 років тому

      Raymond Flores I purchased a Tascam US-144MKII USB Audio Interface back in May of 2014 that I use now instead of the Mbox2 mini. What lead up to my purchase was this; I purchased 14 mics to record my drum set and a TASCAM US-1800 USB 2.0 Audio/Midi Interface (14 channel) as well, so I would have enough channels for recording. I like being able to leave all the drum recording in place. When I saw the Tascam US-144MKII (4 channel) interface go on sale from $150 to $50 (musicians friend.com), I had to try it. I've been very happy ever since.
      The MBox2 mini still works fine. I can't make a strong recommendation either way, other than (real) sales are run on these things periodically and you should be able to pick one up for under $100.

    what type of os x system ru using? and did u need to install any drivers? im thinking about getting a mbp with mountain lion, but wondering if this is compatible

    • @hopkinks1
      @hopkinks1  11 років тому

      I ran into the problem a few cats back (lion I think). After the update, I have been able to use the mbox2 mini on all OS releases since then. I used it with mountain lion and am using it with Mavericks (10.9) now. Here's a link to the driver's on my dropbox space: dl.dropbox.com/u/70720347/Mbox_2_Mini_Driver_v90_69596.dmg
      Hope that helps...Kirk.

    what chord are u using to connect the chord to the guitar? im trying to figure out what chord to use to connect my keyboard

    • @hopkinks1
      @hopkinks1  11 років тому

      1/4" male to 1/4" male which is a standard instrument cable. You will need to look at your keyboard to see what output it has. It's probably 1/4" (female) possibly listed as a headphone jack. If it's the smaller 1/8", you can either buy a converter or a special cable, I'd go with the converter. Hope that helps...Kirk.

      If you don't have a green light, you don't have power. I believe that all iMac's have powered USB ports. I don't think the wired Apple keyboard USB port is powered. If you're USB cable is plugged directly into the iMac and you don't have a green light, I would try another cable (that you know works). If that doesn't work, try another USB port (that you know works) - maybe your port died, although I've never seen that happen. Finally, if all else fails, try it on another computer, it could be that the MBox2 Mini is dead. Hope that helps...Kirk.

    I've only used it on my pc but it won't work on my mac

    • @hopkinks1
      @hopkinks1  9 років тому

      +steve forte If it has worked before, it's probably an OS (operating system) issue. I don't think the MBox2 mini works with Yosemite or El Capitan. I am using 2 different Tascam audio interfaces and both stopped working when I recently upgraded to El Capitan (on my Mac). It's been almost 2 months and they still don't have an update to make it work. Fortunately I still have a Mac running Yosemite which still works with the Tuscam's. The audio interfaces must work with system level stuff on the OS.
      You can try to contact the manufacturer (AVID) but I wouldn't hold my breath on how much help you'll get. You'll probably have to upgrade (buy a new) audio interface. :-(
