Gotta say man, props to you for all the content off of the back of the AOE4 stress test - I really hope you continue doing this into the long term. I've not enjoyed watching RTS casted games this much since I was really into SC2! Keep up the good work!!
I think 1 of the biggest issues that they need to fix is the map being more balanced losing because your opponent has all the resources on the other side of the map is kinda rough.
The big dead space in the bottom of the map and the pocket ponds are a different way to reach the same idea of a closed map than the OG Black Forest but I think it looks great.
Would be hilarious if someone managed to dig into that fat patch of wood and built an entire city inside. With trees preventing vision as outside layer and a miniature entrance that expanded inside it would be an invisible city no one would expect. After a big assault on the enemy, you fail to deliver a finishing blow and delete everything outside of the invisible city. You'd wait for the enemy to move against you. They'd find an empty starter area and think you gave up, but the game glitched and he's stuck alone on the map. If the enemy quits to get out and file a bug report you land a free win and hate mail after the opponent sees on revealed post game map that you had an entire city up. :D
I just realised that this is the first time I've seen the full revealed BF map of AOE4 since the Stress Test did not have an option to view the full map post game.
'Vikings' as we see in AOE2 find it difficult, if we analyze that they are launching 'nations/kingdoms' and not civilizations and they are more attached to the historical context. It would be easier for them to launch the Kingdom of Sweden in this period.
the rumour i heard during the open beta was that vikings and byzantines would be released as dlc about a month after release, i think i saw an ex dev vid. Cant confirm tho so take with grain of salt
I like aoe4 a lot from what I played, but early game rushes feel so weird. it feels like theres no effective counter to early maa and rams other than even earlier longbows or maa yourself. Maybe they'll change how Delhi and the Abbasids play at release but I just dont see how they could deal with it. This also extends to Mongol early knights because oof feudal spears were just ineffective in the closed beta against that.
So ever since the beta Ive been curious about the man at arms. Is that unit just overtuned or is it supposed to stomp everything else? I mean usually units do 'ok' against units they will get crushed by, but against the man at arms they do literally nothing at all.
The only thing I am not a fan of is the unit limit of 200 still and as in cossacks 3 you cant just automate food from the water and its a limited supply
@@Soler4485 I haven't played much of 3 I started on 2 and I found 3 too hard to get used to 😅. I'm just not good enough to adapt. I did enjoy it though, I just don't know the mechanics as well

@@DiscipleKnight1010 Hm, the whole game felt super fast, I feel like he had no time for the crossbows but it's true that on theory they should've countered the heavy infantry.
Like aussie said, he could have built the wall where he was being attacked from for starters, or no wall at all. Use the villagers to gather more food and gold instead of stonefor fighting units. He also had over 1000 wood in his stockpile, unused. And he got supply blocked for a good chunk of time. These are all mistakes that could have made the difference had he done better. His micro was off too, he could pulled the archers back and tanked with his own maa
More MAA and less longbow, if you scout 3 baraq first + vills on gold, you know what is coming and it's pretty ez for english to counter it. Don't spam longbow just because you play english ^^. I think it can be dificult for other civ because you can't train MAA yourself and i don't see any counter to them in age 2 (MAA are cost efficient vs horseman if iam not wrong)
Mhm I feel like resources need to be spread out better in smaller individual amounts. Like 4 spread out 2k gold stones instead of 8k gold stones. Similar issue with food. Fishing, hunting, and berries provide so much food that it makes farms irrelevant for a lot of games. Why invest wood into farms when there is 15k of free food which will last you a big chunk of the game.
Agreed. Aussie is the biggest AOE3 UA-camr, so while I don't mind some AOE4 content, he's going to be one in a crowd of many if he goes full or even just mostly AOE4.

my problem with this age of empires... is that it doesn't really feel like a next gen age of empires... neither in looks or in concept... there is really nothing new about this iteration other than the capture points... and minor technology variations, added playable groups.
The big thing that going strong for it that it looks to be a combination of all previous major rts. You see some aoe 2 and 3 in this game, you see some sc2 in the game aswell it plays mostly fluidly for an open beta. It’s success will be decided purely on how powerful of a launch it has
The Longbow is so underwhelming compared to Age2... Damage is poor and range kinda meeeh. I wish they where a tier 3 unit with more damage, range and higher costs.
Man, everyone playing anything BUT the Chinese, and I don't frigging blame them. HRE got 40% gather rate, and the Chinese are like: *tax tax* built your fourth Landmark? Here, now you can build this hhhhhhuge mill that increases farm gather rate by 15%, good luck placing it *tax tax*
Chinese can use their tax collector to supervise a building buffing drop off amount by 20% (iirc). That also works on gold mine and is better than tax collection early game.
AOE4 actually having very different civs adds a lot of replay value. I also enjoy townbuilding in 4 more. AOE2DE is more beautiful than almost any other game I can think of though. AOE4 needs some control improvements, but long term i see myself playing much more AOE4 than 2. But i'm not as competitive a player as I used to be - back when I played fighting games a lot I'd definitely prefer the most fine tuned ones. Good stuff man, your views nearly jumped 2.5x thanks to AoE4 content. Hope your channel will be at the top when the game goes popular at release.
There was definitely a chance for the english player, but it's super tempting to play into a civs strength even if the enemy civ has easy counters
It's off putting that some of the buildings are not to scale, for example the door on the barracks is half the size of an infantry unit.

I dn't know why but this game looks so cold. Do you guys feel the same?
This map is in taiga biome. There are different biomes you can choose from
They should bring back icons like in AOE 3. The new ones look so similar to each other
I feel like Black Forest should have a lot of stealth forests in them as well. Or maybe we could have a stealth forest Black Forest variant?
