So glad I'm a Boomer. We lived to the best times mankind had ever heard!
Ditto. I feel so sorry for 80's kids that thought their times were best. Maddy Prior, Judith Durham, Sally Carr..... that's the music I cut my teeth on. Great to be a child of the sixties. 😊
O.k I'm Scottish and love my folk music. To me this song is so quintessentially English in the best possible way. I loved this back in the 1970s and love it now 2022.
Proud to belong to her generation. 72 yrs xxxxx
68 here. We love that generation's music!
She's still got it. What a performance.
Maddy is priceless !! Her voice is unique and beautiful. No more words at all.
Oh Maddy..you're making me cry and laugh at the same time again....I love you....a fan since 1972.
She's still got that twinkle in her eye, gives the impression she's up to something, love this song always lifts my mood
Not many left anymore, but the Drummer and Maddy.
Music lives, that's important.
Morris dancers AND a fiddle player! Excellent!!
Great effort by Maddy here. She's pushing 70 at the time and has such a wonderful way about her. Still clearly really enjoying performing this jaunty song with all of the original sassiness. I've loved this song since the 70's and she does it proud.
Absolutely. She sounds as fantastic as ever!
Very fair comment!
Watching the 70's original one can reasonably conclude that Maddie was/is one fantastically sexy Lady.
(I think it's the repeated "Young Man" references?)
I wonder if today’s talentless crop of female ‘singers’ will still sound as good as this when they are knocking 70? I doubt it!
Albert Head I saw Steeleye Span perform in a large pub courtyard in the mid 75’s. It was quite hilarious, as the evening progressed everyone (band and audience) got more and more drunk. Poor old Maddy, she could barely stand upright by the end of the evening. Ah, the good old days !
@@nigeljames6017 Saw them live in War Memorial Stadium in Buffalo, NY in summer 1970, fell in love with them!
Maddy your still amazing my darlin
Oh my god, still so good! I feel 40yrs younger.
Blimey....i remember when this hit the charts at Christmas 1975 and was played endlessly all over the festive period. I bought the album! Maddys vocals still in fine fettle and the fiddler girl rocks it!
my goodness you would never know how old she is by just listening, brilliant.
Maddy...eternally ❤❤❤
Arent they lovely!? Maddy Smiling just loving it all.
So 'far far away'; but still so present when hearing it again again and again..
I don't speak English, I'm 40+ y/o, from another continent, and I can't stop listening to this song and others from Steeleye Span. I know why: Maddy visited me once in the shape of a hare and put a spell on me. That's why!
Haha 🤣
She turned me into a newt, but I got better.
I want whatever you’re smoking
Legend performance, legend song!
There's no song that makes me feel so good as this. I just love Maddie's voice and the band. Brilliant!
ARE YOU GAY?
@@jimmymalone9139 No are you a leftist?
Loved it when it first came out in 73 (?) and although I was a Purple/Yes/Heep/Floyd (and several more!) fan you couldn't help but like the rhythmic beat and Maddy's distinctive and utterly wonderful voice!! Brilliant and that's why it's perennially popular!
I was in the same boat! Didn't dare admit I loved it!
Same same
I went to hear them in concert in Melbourne. Someone in the audience called out, “You’re a bonzer Sheila, Maddy Prior!” 😊
I was there. Oh joy!
That drummer is superb
Yes Ben u know
I played this a lot on my little box record player through that hot 76 summer, very happy times in a very different world.
Whats with the thumbnail.
@@johnsmith-wx5fb What's with the John Smith?
Brilliant Mutley. I'm the same!!!! 💕💕💕👌👍
Maddy is FANTASTIC 🥳
Got to love Maddy!
Such a rocking feel good track ,,, perfect after a crap day at work 😂😂😂
I'll always be grateful to anyone whose been a musician in steeleye span.
A voice full of character, the very wonderful Maddy Prior
Still a great song love it . And what a beautiful violiniste
She's great, and thoroughly enjoying herself.
Steeleye Span: stick together, stick to what you're good at, make everyone happy, make yourselves happy.
Several years ago I was spending the winter in The Gambia and had no music to listen to. I regularly visited a small hotel to swim and one of the waiters had downloaded some music from UA-cam. I was surprised to hear this and every time I went to swim they'd play this for me. Brilliant.
Bloody fantastic.
Glorious
Fifty years they've been going. Awesome. Still got it.
Go girl, amazing. love you Maddy.
The best "none" Christmas song... Ever! 🎄🎅❄️⛄
A joyous yuletide memory x
Maddy looks brilliant. Great voice and just how I expected her to be after original video.
The song tells of Yae Merry Olde England - brilliant folk song
Remember this so well
LOVE IT>>>>>>> its as good as ever
I heard the second half of this song in the early 70s. I loved it beyond all else but I did not know the name of the band. For decades I knew there was a song out there that I loved beyond all else but that might never be heard again. At some point 6/7 years ago, I figured it out. And now with such great audio quality, it is totally sublime.
I remember playing this on Caroline 558 I then went onto TKO my radio station and one of my presenters played it as we never used play list. I was only 18 and loved this magical folk song. 💕🏴🏆
Found you by pure mistake. So many memories. Keep on and stay safe.
music like this will never die
Maddy you sound awesome as always
Beautifull song. Thanks maddy
Saw them perform this 1970s she's still got a great voice
Brilliant - CLASS 💚
The older they get the better their music!! Still love it!!!
Absolutely fantastic. Supberb.
Fantastic violin.
De vreugde en plezier spat er nog steeds vanaf ook na 50 jaar
One of the 'FOOT TAPPERS' of all time!
This song fills my heart with joy and happiness, I LOVE IT!!!
ahhhh proper music no auto tune ...BLISS :)
Loved these guys 40+ years go .. Still Do..
Caught them at Skeggy Great Brit Folk Festthe one before the first lockdown. I was expecting too much "Hey Nonny no", but what IO saw was a great Folk rock band. Absolutely superb !!
Thanks for the emotions
Still sends shivers, brilliant.
Take my hat of for the performance of this old song in my youthtime
I saw them at a folk festival near Chelmsford around 1970. Maddie put her can of beer down on the stage when she began a song and my friend Kevin drank it. When she finished the song she picked up the empty can "WHO'S DRUNK MY FUCKING BEER!' Oh dear, Kevin sheepishly admitted it.
I used to love this.
Absolutely fantastic I remember when I first heard this whole living in Australia. The whole family was very sick. Me, hubby and 3 kids. But I was at worse. After the doc left hubby drove to get medicine and came back with the record forecast well. Brilliant then, brilliant now. And I still got the vinyl!!
The Fast Show Folkin Classics brought me here! 👍😂
Makes me wish I had taken an interest in folk music when I lived in England, I'd have LOVED to see this live!
I discovered Steeleye Span back in the late 70's, they still rock!
Galday pray
Steeleye span
Same here.
We used to sing this around the campfire, such good memories.
Her voice hasn’t aged at all, still beautiful
Err… we’re you watching the same video as me?!
Of course her voice has changed! It is still a good voice, but, it’s not the same as it was in 1973!
Happy Birthday Maddy ! you made THE TIMES birthday list! xxx ! 14/08/2021
I used to love this, wish they would play this around Christmas time when I first heard it
Bellissima signora, bellissima voce
Just blows me away every time I play this❤
Watch this and the original 40 years ago - what an incredible performer and what a timeless song.
Such a great band !!!! I had a few drinks with them after a show in Denver back in the mid seventies and they are all wonderful people !! God Bless !
Brilliant..........Maddy still brilliant.........to the 64 thumbs down people you have no soul.......hope you find it soon..........
Beautiful
Never ages , just terrific
Thank you Steeleye Span, loved you way back, great to see you still going. I am a rock fan but love all music! you make music worth listening to. Thank you.
Amen
Delightful performance. Fab festival. The young folks don’t know what they’re missing.
Fabulous ❤
I think they sound better than ever and the young violinist looks wonderful.
They were awesome back in the day, they're still awesome now!
My Dad used to play this song a lot when I was little and I'd not heard it in years. Brought back many memories.
Bless Maddy Prior ❤️
Still a great singer!
I used to wonder why i love this song so much, it turned out that in the 70's my parents took me and my brother to see them live. I generally dont like folk music but could play this none stop.
Ahh music I'd forgotten. Lovely I'm Australian and my brother loves Steeleye Span Good cheer to you
The violin player hasn’t aged at all.
Genius is ageless.....
Botox for the violin player methinks he he he !!
Peter Knight the original fiddler has
Just changed sex...
Looks like Rosie Langley, who also plays with Jeff Lynne.
now this is true folk-rock at its best......
Wow! Why does this song always make me emotional 😢😢😭👍🤗
Morris dancers I only had a Morris monorrr n a mechanic Daad who I will adore to infinity.. Peace to Alll❤️❤️❤️❤️
Maddy still looking gorgeous
Today many women over sixty are really beautiful.
You should have gone to "Specsavers".
That's because she is!
So good to hear this. I was playing at a festival years ago and was lucky to hear them, it was very emotional for me after hearing them since the 70s. It was an extra thrill when I saw the drummer (maybe there were more Span members as well) watch us play one of our sets at the festival. A definite highlight for me.
Fabulous - still love the gorgeous Maddy and her fabulous voice (and the rest)
That smile ❤️
I loved that since I was younger and heard it at my sister in laws house that Irish song always make you want to get up and dance; it just makes you feel happy listening to it.
It's an English folk song. But that's O.K. All that matters is that you love it. As do I.
Still love this song after all these years. Brilliant!
Love the Morris dancers on speed.
