Musically & lyrically, one of the best bands in the golden era. And you would be hard pressed to find any female vocalist that can top Annie's octave range, control & pitch. Amazing...
2023 and still listening. This reminds me so much of hitchhiking with my then boyfriend and the excitement of being together on the road; he lived up north, too, so the everlasting association was made between these lyrics, him and the north. I had such a youthful, all-encompassing desire to be always with him; I was so young (and foolish) and I knew next to nothing about the real world.

CHRISTMAS LYRICS:

I turn to see the winter flakes behind the wind
Horizons seem to beckon me
Learned how-to-cry-too-young-so-now I live to sing
The Christmas stars are in my mind
They guide me back to you
Horizons seem to beckon me
Learned-how-to-cry-too-young-so-now I live to sing
You know it's hard away from you
Travelling roads and passing through
It's not for money and it's not for fame
I just can't explain, sometimes it's lonely
Marking the space between the days
Early hours pass away
I sing to you on Yultide nights
I sing for you of Christmas light
Past or future, here or there
Christmas comes in words from you, so talk to me
I hear your voice, it comforts me
In winter dreams I take your hand, you walk with me
The Christmas stars are in my mind
They guide me back to you
Peace enfolds the still night air
Home again I look for you and find you there
Destination homeward now
Take-the-easy-way, bring me down
Making the hard way now I see
Hard to be really free, I'm-missing-you-near-me
Marking the space between the days
Early hours pass away
I sing to you on Yultide nights
I sing for you of Christmas light
The Christmas stars are in my mind
They guide me back to you
The Christmas lights are in my eye
They guide me back to you

I was 14 years old when the song was released by Renaissance Annie Haslem had an amazing voice I think she Is better at singing than these so called singers on the Xfactor I miss those days of 1970,s music on Top Of The Pops
When singers were singers and real talent
still gorgeous and still an excellent song, such a clear, beautiful voice
Yea, great song and the seventies, the most musically diverse decade ever.
Annie Haslam has a great voice ,shes a true Bolton Lass.
Mark Merrick She's a yank now.
Ya mean bowton 😉
Never knew she was from Lancashire. Great singer.
@@bretwalda100 no , will always be a brit. No matter where she lives.
why is it that most tunes and movies from the 70,s are just amazing ?
Well, speaking as someone who was there at the time, they weren't - not all of them. Don't get me wrong, there were some extraordinary, life-changing, mind-blowing, life-affirming, unforgettable moments. But, I promise you, there was a fair amount of shit too, This wasn't a shitty thing though...I loved it. I also had a crush on the singer, Annie Haslam at the time. Thing is, this song was a hit around the time that I was having a great time with a girl named Sarah and the summer that year was good and i was carefree and.. well. When you remember a song or a movie, often it will be in the context of what other things were going on in your life at the time. Enjoy yourself young man!
We had musicians then performing their work, now we have performers who are not musicians performing covers. What a **** Steve W is....
lake fire Over the years technology has made it easier to create music so there's more music and more 'average' music that's marketed now. It's also harder to be original because there's been 60+ years of chart music tunes and film ideas already.
+kevrs2 Corporate greed started way before then and there was a load of crap in the 70s, as well as great stuff like this.
+Richard Helliwell Rubbish, acts have bene performing covers since music was invented. Many performers today are fine musicians and there are some great singers too amongst the crap. There was much rubbish in the 70s.
That girl is HOT! Great song!
Gorgeous lady with a equally gorgeous voice, please God take me back to those days
stunning voice , amazing song .... such happy times , unlike todays . pc gone mad , oh kids you have been shafted . when the time machine gets invented go to this year , you will not be disappointed
Im turning my clock back tonight to 1978😊
Wouldn't that be wonderful? If only...........
one of the most beautiful songs ever love it and love her
I remember seeing this wonderful band at York University back around that time. Magical sounds like this cross decades with ease, I think.
Easy listening … timeless 💜
Anyone got a time machine 18 when this came out now 61 oh Anne what a crush ❤️
just ticks all the boxes, did then and still does now, perfection in every way, how she can change tones and still make it so amazing
Renaissance made the most uplifting and beautiful music to bear the name "rock".
Amazing song can’t stop playing this❤❤
Look how naturally beautiful Annie is, no filler, botox, fake boobs, oversized eyebrows or tattoos.
1978. That summer when my baby died. Strangely, this song made me feel better.
My marriage broke up at this time and this song helped me through my pain.
How dreadfully sad. Hope life has somehow compensated you in the years since then.
+zazzamaz The pain never leaves xxx
Thanks for uploading this. Loved it
Just wonderful. RIP "proper" music :-(
My kids prefer 80s & a few 70s songs over today's so-called music.
@@Vicki-stfc Hi Vicki, I luv this track too plus agree with your comments. If only we could turn the clock back..Kind regards Glynn n greetings from Stourbridge West Midlands UK 🤝
BBC Radio 2 was good enough to play this recently ( Jan 2015 ) I was only a wee nipper when it was released but remember it well...such a good song, such a cracking voice and by 'eck, what a BABE!!!!!
***** I'm sure Annie would be bowled over by your sophistication and polished charm......
***** who knows though? she might actually go for the diamond in the rough! XD
you never lose it
she is a beautiful woman who also has talent what more could you want.Different class to that masquerading as talent now
john lewis
Absolute stunner.
I don't think I appreciated how much she was back then.
Still a Beautiful Song after all these years.
A voice of an angel and so refreshing
One of my favourite recordings of the 70s ❤
One of the first songs I remember being about 2 at the time (1978) it also helps that the singer's hot, and gorgeous!
Love her dress
Before mass produced rubbish you can cut off at any point with a knife. Sad to hear but wonderful. This comes from the days before pop lost the actual meaning of music, to produce original, individual works of art, and before the laziness of drum synth controlled wallpaper trash.
