Nice to see you out and about in nature again, and looking healthy too! So great you have a doggo companion, something humans have had by their side for possibly 30,000 years. When you were building the shelter and the dog was sitting watching I imagined you as a woman thousands of years ago. Who knows, maybe your ancient ancestor grandmother was there with a dog doing the same thing!

I love thunderstorms. Being in a hammock under a tarp, or being outside on a covered porch with open sides and having all that water just pouring down all around you is magic. The sound is another of nature’s voices. After you moved to a safe place I thought we might see your shelter float by on the river 😮. Thanks for the video!

Your appreciation and respect for Nature really show in your videos, Vanessa. There's nothing quite like having such an area by the river to make camp. It's a shame you weren't able to fish there, it looks like a good spot. It reminds me a lot of an area where I used to fish frequently.

If my memory serves me correctly, the one time I made bannock bread, I fried it like a pancake and it turned out great.

This is very much like the river i camp on in Australia,lots of beaches,willow,oak trees etc but also lots of snakes 😅 very clever and handy tips 👌if i ever get stranded on an island...i would bring one of you Vanessa 😅😂👌 great video 👍

Watched both videos, so good to see Aika has found her voice...really funny seeing her being all brave with her barking at the tree and then when she ran like crazy with the leaf floating on the water 😂😂😂 So funny. Glad she is settling in, in the outdoors...looks like you have an amazing bushcraft companion. Good to see her swimming so well too. The motto for the Royal Marines is "Adapt, overcome, survive" Whatever nature throws at you, you do your best to get through it. No fun being soaking wet, at the very end of the year, in a makeshift A-frame shelter in gale force winds and never ending heavy rain. Was I cold through the night...yes, but I survived it. Floods...I'm only 4 miles South of the River Thames, and 2 doors away from London, so not a chance that floods will effect me and no mountains in England. You did well to get through the night. Oh, and your hair looks lovely...glad you kept it long! Can't wait for the next video. Much love to you all my friend, good to see you back in action x

The flies that were biting you were probably one or more of the kinds which bother livestock. Heelflies will bite you on your ankles. They HURT. They're small like a house fly. Horseflies, common to river bottoms, are bigger, 1 to 2 cms. Their bite is VERY painful.
Sorry you had to leave your campsite. It's good to know about the river you are camped at. A river can rise very fast if there are urban areas in it's watershed. Or even a lot of farmland. Better to be safe.

The Fish Trap demonstration is very useful. I also appreciate your cooking and shelter making. Lastly, Aika's antics are always hilarious. I hope you got home safe, found no tics or leaches and got a solid nights sleep.

I don’t want to correct you, with your vast experience in bush craft. Mosquitoes suck blood 🩸 but is not really a fly. Putting hot coals on the lid of the pot, will increase your cooking time. Big thumbs up 👍 for your new adventure love ❤️ you
She was describing a horse-fly, "fly around smelly areas.", they have a deep bite that latches on when they drink blood. Very uncomfortable. I call 'em biting flies. They're fairly new in the area i live at.

Hallo Vanessa, the video achieved the aspects of what it set out to achieve shelter to get out the weather ( sun,rain, wind ) , fire 🔥,( warmth,cooking,water safety), trapping ( food ) , flooding is extremely dangerous and must be kept away from, a smoke fire will help keep away the mosquito 🦟 insect another aspect of rising flood water.

I'm glad you uploaded this video. You have much experience, so you know to be wise and cautious. Some viewers who have not done much camping will now know that rising water is always a possible threat when camping along a river. I'm glad you showed what can happen. I remember a morning many decades ago when I awoke and looked out of my tent just in time to see the rising river float my fire wood away! Needless to say, we hastily moved our camp to higher ground.

I was worried about a flash flood, that's the worst thing camping in a flood plain😯☹. There was a big flash flood early this morning, the 28th, in Kentucky, USA, submerging whole communities, yikes!
