    When I was young , few fishing lines ,hooks etc , plenty of 22 ammo , good knife , good axe , old tobacco cans and tins to keep matches dry , carried about everything in a homemade haversack , out of potato jute sack , and my 22 semiautomatic ruger pistol , had a bedroll that would shed biggest part of water . Sleep in a bed of leaves or sometimes in line shacks or hunting cabins , a few times in a cow feed shed , hay barns

    I remember when I got back from my ugh short vaca in Afghanistan 09 from grafenwohr Germany me in my room mate when to the local volksfest and a gentleman was selling wolf furs and I bought one for I think 28 euros and we well smoked in the barracks me cigarettes him other stuff smh but we kept window open a little despite that cold winter or 2010 and I’d cover up with that wolf fur and I loved it but dang!🤣 I’d wake up way too hot lol. Gosh I miss my time in Germany going around seeing old castle ruins I can’t remember the one I low crawled through a small hole into a room and was a bricked up wall and still to this day wonder what was behind it because it was old masonry…..oh well but Miss VB LOVE your videos!!!❤️🥰😍 you make me miss my huge German heritage and the deutschland so so much! God bless you!! Your videos always make bad days way better.😊 sorry for long comment lol plus that German shepherd Omg Love love also!❤️one last thing!🤣I love when the leaves came down and that one stayed their on your shoulder by your pony tail. It was cute sorry Im a kinda a attention to detail guy lol plus I just liked how the wind decided to act up. Just a little natural addition to the video lol. Omg I need to get to bed stupid bottle of Mountain Dew earlier in the day which I’ve not drank in probably a year😳. God bless shutting up lol.

    Vanessa, I am almost an old man, and have been doing the outdoors for over 40 years. I've been through Tons of gear. Your today picks for gear are Spot-On. Almost every one; I own. Every one; except for the "brand" of sleeping bag, I own. Yes, these things, and the knowledge of how to use them, are the BEST. Thank you so much!

    Great selection, hard to argue with any of those ! Nice to see some different ideas to other bushcraft channels.
    Silky Saws are awesome, but the blades are like a hundred scalpel blades & the lightest touch will cut you. So I recommend wearing a glove on the hand that isn't holding the saw. In fact one of the advantages of the saw you demonstrated is that you can hold it with two hands for any bigger wood or well anchored wood, which is usually safer again.

    This was a very informative episode, Vanessa. Everything you showed, and demonstrated, proves it's quality. More importantly, it shows the value for the money. Advising us how the reliability of the equipment justifies the extra cost in most cases. I imagine the main lesson here is preparedness. Since luck favors the prepared, it stands to reason that anyone who tries bushcraft will be successful with the proper equipment, and knowledge from an experienced survivalist are invaluable. Thank you for posting this very necessary video in case someone needs to bug-out. I look forward to your next episode with great eagerness, since the cold will grip Bavaria harshly. Stay safe and warm.

    Your right about the time it takes for talking gear. Mine is easy to talk as it is nearly all X Army, tried and tested by hundreds of thousands over many years and still even unissued are fairly cheap. Sleeping bags don't come much better than an X Army Arctic rated one's. Good for all year round and any weathers hot are extremely cold. As always Vanessa a pleasure and interesting watch and a learning curve to take in. Arthur(UK)

    • @theghostofsabertache9049
      @theghostofsabertache9049 Рік тому

      I own about 4-5 58 pattern sleeping bags for the pure reason I find them being sold at carboot sales for a few quid and people rarely realise what it is they are selling. They are solid as hell you dont need a ground sheet because of the rubberised bottom and they are tested to below zero. Used them as a cadet and never used anything else. The only downside is the weight and bulkiness was of them. Most of my other gear is ex military. Lime you said it’s been tried and tested.

    • @shogun666able
      @shogun666able Рік тому

      @@theghostofsabertache9049 It is all down to what you want to carry against knowing it works. But then you can look at the rest of the gear you would need to carry, but can leave behind, for the same result. I'm not saying there isn't a lot lighter or smaller to carry, but there isn't much proven better that doesn't cost a fortune. To many it is what's on its label or what it is marked up as, so it must be good, which is not always the case and in some cases a total waste of money, if not to mention dangerous if or when your depending on it. Good, clean, unused (if you can find it) Ex Military you won't go wrong plus it is extremely high spec and still fairly cheap.

    I own several backpacks but recently bought the Stubben with side pockets and it’s become my favourite pack. The V1 is nicer looking and the seat pad can be removed but the advantage of the V2 is now it’s possible to unzip the whole front for easy access. The fact the pack stands upright is another advantage and makes a good mini table if one has brought another chair.
    Like that wool blanket, would make a great addition to my kit.

    Ordinary camping tools can, sometimes, turn into "survival" tools! I've enjoyed over the years, your honesty about all the things that you DON'T really use very often. The things in this video are the things you can DEPEND on!
    I have a military surplus Swedish "bow saw". Your UA-cam friend "Lilly", has one just like it. She did a video sharpening and resetting it. Much better steel than you can get now. The folding saws are good, but they can hurt your wrist after awhile.
    I agree, wool is the BEST to stay warm, even if it's wet. And as for the lantern, meine freundin, it's the soft WARM light it gives us, NOT how much light. Correct?😌🇺🇸🇩🇪🚜❤
