    Very cool video !!!
    It would be interesting if you showed how to make these settings in G3.

      Thanks man! I can absolutely do that! Anything in particular you would want me to go over?

    • @richardwagner11
      @richardwagner11 Рік тому

      @@rickyrayreid Nothing particular. I'm considering buying a G3 but the videos on youtube are always pretty vague. It only shows what was done and not how to do it. For example: is it possible to use midi in the hidden preset? Is it possible to have it send a PC/CC when it triggers it and another PC/CC when it exits it?

    • @rickyrayreid
      @rickyrayreid  Рік тому +1

      @@richardwagner11 Yessir! It acts as a normal preset (just without switching banks) and you can have all the midi changes you want every time you enter/exit a hidden preset. The Gigrig G3 has been the most flexible/Easy switcher I've used, especially compared to the Boss ES-8

    One of the best boards I've ever seen!! But what do you do for a volume pedal?

    • @rickyrayreid
      @rickyrayreid  Рік тому

      Thanks man! I’ve actually just adopted the volume knob approach…after 20 years 🤣
      All the volume pots on my guitars have the “treble bleed” mod so when I roll down the volume it retains the brightness and then saves me space on the board!

    You should really try the strymon pedals in the g3 since you have the loops available. Parallel reverb and delay isy favorite trick. Having them isolated and not running into one another (while still having that option) makes for massive wet effects. You can really easily set up a wet/dry or wet/dry/wet since younhave a lot of stereo options with the strymon pedals

    • @rickyrayreid
      @rickyrayreid  Рік тому +2

      I have some more cable comin in this week so I’ll give it a shot! I typically run mod/delays/reverbs in series but I know running in parallel could make them sound super clean.
      I’ll post a video once I get it up and runnin!

    Great video, thanks! I’ve been looking for a similar sized board with the hinged top layer. Would love to know what brand that is or where I could get one? 😊

    • @rickyrayreid
      @rickyrayreid  9 місяців тому

      Hey Mel! Thank you for watching!
      This is the Vertex Travel Plus! It has been a great board BUT here are some of my gripes (that I feel would make it peeerfect) I also believe they may be discontinued now.
      1. If you’re going to use a switcher the tiered riser has a “flange” on it for support that blocks the “input” of a switcher. So you aren’t able to use a cable into it. Which is why my switcher is situated more to the left. Which is a minor annoyance, but not too bad! Just something to think about!
      2. The height of the riser maybe needs to be about 1/2” or 1” higher. If you mount your power supply, like I do with the Cioks, the power supply will move some knobs around or not shut completely. Once again minor, but something to look out for ESPECIALLY since Cioks power supplies are on the thinner side anyway. So if you go with something else you may run into a bigger issue where you can’t even fit a pedal below the hinge.
      3. The available cases. This was my biggest issue, finding a form fitting case. I bought the hardshell seahorse case they recommend for fitting on the site and it worked great, but doubles the whole pedalboard in thickness…which to me defeats the purpose of the board. I want something compact and “travel” 🤣 soooo what I’m using now is the “mono rail” *gigbag ONLY. It has a close depth but I had to go up in size to the medium so it leaves a lot of wiggle room.
      That being said I took it on an international flight and it performed flawlessly so I wouldn’t even go for a hardshell case!
      Conclusion:
      If I were to do it Alllllllll over again I would save up double and get a Schmidt Array board. A ton of pros use them, seems incredibly sturdy, customizable and comes with a form fitting lid that retains its “slimness” and all that stuff!
      Hope this was helpful and let me know if you have any questions!
      -Ricky

    Why not put the pedals separately in the different loops of the Girig G3? Like strymon pedals for example...

    • @rickyrayreid
      @rickyrayreid  Рік тому +4

      Hey man! Thanks for the Question!
      I have a few reasons why I personally do this:
      1.I don't change the order of the Strymon pedals as far as the chain goes. Always modulation (chorus, vibrato,funky stuff...) into Delay(Timeline), then into the Reverb (BigSky). BUT if I were to move them around then I would toss them into the loops for easy moving!
      2. I never plan on running the Strymon Delays/Reverbs in "parallel" but always in "series" (so one right after another).
      3. Its double the Connectors and Cables. If I run them into each other it's 4 connectors per pedal. So 4 in/out of the mobius, 4 in/out of the timeline, and 2 in/out of the Bigsky. If I run them into the Switcher (especially in stereo) I double all those things!
      It'd end up being 8 connectors per pedal. So 4 in/out of the Switcher and 4 in/out of each Strymon. With longer cable runs. This would also take up half of the loops available on the switcher.
      So currently its only 10 connectors and 6 cables vs 24 connectors and 12 cable runs to run to the switcher. Makes for a much cleaner look and less things to go wrong! ((1 connector is $3.79, so 10=37.90; 24=90.96) SAVES THAT MOOLAH$$$
      4. The Buffers on each Strymon pedal are high quality so I won't be losing any high end daisy chaining them together and going OUT of the Bigsky at the end Buffers the cable to retain the high end to an Amp or DI!
      Hope this made sense of my madness! Thanks for the great question!

      @ericsf4217 Рік тому

      Thanks for your comprehensive response. So you use the midi CC functions to activate or deactivate a Strymon pedal?
      I have almost the same hardware and your answer helps me redefine my pedalbaord. Thank you so much!@@rickyrayreid

    • @rickyrayreid
      @rickyrayreid  Рік тому +1

      @@ericsf4217 exactly! Since you can use the midi cc message #102 (then cc note 0 for “off” and 127 for “on”) then you can control if it’s on/off/in/out of your chain! Saves a ton cable and just takes an extra midi command!

    What's REALLY crazy is that these non pro youtube musicians more often than not have better gear than the famous rock gods.

    • @rickyrayreid
      @rickyrayreid  8 днів тому +1

      You’re totally right! Most of the time “The Greats” just have a normal amp and a few vintage pedals to run through and sound incredible! Then we (I) try to chase that sound with more expensive stuff not even getting close! 🤣
      I think for the longest time (and still sometimes do) is fall into the gear buying trap where I just buy buy buy instead practice practice practice and should be working on skills.
      How about yourself?

      I've heard stories that Angus doesn't use ANY pedals or effects. His sound is the raw Gibson SG into a massive wall of Marshalls.
      Me? I'm not a musician. I consider myself an ambient scientist. My instrument of choice is the Hexen Modular Synthesizer by SiliconDroid. Yeah, it's a free app you can get on GooglePLAY. With that app (on my phone), I patch it into a Strymon BigSky and TimeLine (the only pedals/effects that I use), and run the chain into my Fender Rumble.
      It's just a hobby; my way of relaxing after work due to the unbelievable stress of my job.

    • @rickyrayreid

      I think you’re right again! They were able to crank an amp up all the way and get clean to distorted sounds as they were designed, where I can’t turn my amp up past 2 without annoying the neighbors 🤣
      Sounds like you’ve got some interesting music! Have any links or recordings up anywhere to share?
      Music is the perfect thing to relax right?? Glad you found out how to do it your way!
