      I totally agree and has a hair stylist it's funny to see how "woke" people only know what they choose to know. I do not disagree but wave companies are still in full effect people still get relaxers and people still get curl reformations. the relaxer has not collapsed people like what they like. there's nothing wrong with either! this has been around for decades.

    Dear Naturals: You are absolutely allowed to do with your hair whatever you choose and whatever you feel is best. You aren't part of a cult or gang. There are no rules to changing your hair. If you want to alter your curl pattern or add color YOU may absolutely do so.. Please forgive the hair police for making you feel bad about your decision. They don't know what they do. CARRY-ON AND BE GREAT!!

    it's pretty. a lot of us didn't have long hair until someone put a curly in it and you had to maintain it by moisturizing it everyday. the problem started when you got a relaxer and stopped moisturizing and putting heat on your hair is when it started breaking and falling out.

    I finally had this done yesterday and I'm really happy. I found someone who has been doing them for 30 years and who knows what they're doing. I had been natural for almost 5 years and my hair is past my bra strap. I've also had long relaxed hair in my lifetime and a carefree curl 10 years ago so if it doesn't work out I can always start again :)

    these companies are trying real hard to get people to go back to chemicals. They realize lots of people go natural expecting curls and get insecure when they see kinks, they feed off of that and found a way to change curl pattern. So not only do you still pay for the chemical prices but you also pay for their natural hair products.

      Anais Lisette . Yes Hun, this is nothing new. It's just called marketing. I don't know why everyone has their panties in a bunch. Hair is just hair, it should not define who you are. It's an accessory to be worn how you like it to enhance your image. I wear my hair in it's natural state, because I think it's a stronger base for sew-in's or braided hair designs. Truth be told a lot of AA's didn't know how to care for chemically treated hair. And a lot of AA's lifestyles are too full to be slaving over detangle and styling 1 loc of hair for 15mins. I miss quickly washing and setting my hair within 10 mins. Regardless of how the Natural Hair Nazis feel, people are going to do what fits their lifestyle and budget. And if chemically altering their hair is going to positively change their life and keep a little cash in their wallet then so be it. Being a millennial natural is an expensive lifestyle. Do what's makes you happy. Research and find what works for you.

  • @Noratheskindoc
    @Noratheskindoc 3 роки тому +35

    She's beautiful. I know braids, twist outs, buying quality wigs, silk presses that don't last, etc. are time consuming and costly so this is DEFINITELY a great option. For those who might be natural, but are not happy with their curl pattern this is perfect for you. It's like back in the day the BC community clowned you if you DIDN'T get chemicals NOW the natural hair movement hits and if you chemically process your hair you're still in jail. FREEDOM OF CHOICE is the way to go.

    oh geez just stop it guys, its just hair. if someone wants to mess around with their appearance its their choice. if you don't like the hair. cut it, it will GROW BACK. its never this serious about hair. its literally an extension of you. and lets not forget in corporate America, or Corporate anywhere, black women still relax their hair so they can actually survive and take care of their own. if it wasn't for my mother relaxing her hair and getting the job she needed to provide for me, I wouldn't be the person I am today. So I'm neither against relaxers or "natural" if its your hair, do what ever you want, nobody should be shamed into not doing something. think about it the other way around, young black women have recently become aware of their natural hair and are proud of it which is a beautiful thing. but we use chemicals with literally everything, so someone using a relaxer for their hair shouldn't be a big deal. if you're proud of your 3c,4a,4b,4c hair, then be proud. but don't shame people into not doing something they don't want to do. just because we're black doesn't mean culturally we have the same standards for how we take care of ourselves. if someone chooses to relax their hair for the rest of their life, that is purely THEIR CHOICE..... plus I see black women in their 40's and 50's that have hair draping down their back from years of relaxing. so what ever you choose to do, it is your choice, and non of your business what anyone else chooses to do with theirs.

    I think her hair looks beautiful. I think people have taken the natural hair movement to the extreme. Some people stop relaxing there hair for different reasons like I stoped relaxing mind because I'm getting older and sometimes your hair tends to shed when or before going through menopause so that was my reasoning.I know what my natural hair look like it's curly it's not Kinky-Curly it's just soft and curly . So I wanted to preserve my hair. I would never tell anyone not to relax their hair, or carefree curls, or apply wave nouveau. I've seen so many chicks with natural damaged hair, a serious big chop was necessary. So chicks need to back off what other people decide to do with their hair not your hair and surely not your dam business what the next person decides to do with their hair. If you choose to put a relaxer in your hair and it makes you happy that's all that matters. Frankly I'm sick of the Damned fake-ass false eye lashes why don't people wear their own natural eyelashes. Chicks walking around looking like snuffaluffagus from sesame Street / Muppets. Big eyelashes looking like an ostrich Lol.

    Anybody else been natural all they life or for the last 10 years or so and thinking of doing this? I’m tired of wash and go’s and braid outs/twist out don’t last more than an few hours. I don’t wear my hair straight, I just want manageable, non-breakage prone, non- single stranded knot prone hair be it kinky, curly or otherwise. I hate braids bc they always break my hair if I leave them for more than six weeks which is a waste of money and I get tired of wigs.

      No, it's a thio-based curly perm, like Jheri Curl, Wave Nouveau, etc. Texturizing relaxes the curl pattern, and keeps those looser curls. This type of curly perm straightens the hair, and then puts in completely new curls using rods.

    This is the Old School "Curly Kit" from the '80's! I had one, everybody had one back in the day!😀. Some elderly people never let go and BEEN rocking it ever since! This doesn't look as neat as the beauticians back then used to do it. (A fresh curl is supposed to looks as if all of your hair is of 3A,3B texture. The curl pattern would vary, depending on your choice of perm rod size. EVERYBODY'S hair grew like crazy because, as my beautician put it, "You hair is in a constant state of condition."!(Glycerine based Curl activators and sprays- which were used almost daily- kept hair moist and very well maintained). The only time heat was used was when you needed a new Jheri Curl-during the retouch process, about every 3-6 months.
    *As always:. The fact that this style required No heat, low manipulation and moisturizing was the key to the heath and superior hair growth that just about ALL were able to achieve and experience!😀. Hair trends always seem to return!

    Thank you Design Essentials. I appreciate the video. I like the fact that you showed how to avoid applying to previously treated hair. I think that might be the problems with other curly perm applications that may not protect the previously processed hair and just eyeball to apply on "new growth only" but end up not protecting hair that has already been curled which then people wonder why it looked great the first time, but now looks disastrous because the hair is falling off and they may not realize why?

    I was honestly trying not to make a comment, but after reading some of the rude and very insensitive comments, I really needed to. We all sit here and judge for so many things in this world and there is truly no need for that. As we all have our own opinions in life, that is absolutely fine. Everyone is not born with the same texture of hair and the growth pattern is strictly different. She is not telling anyone to use these products. This video is strictly for those who would like to try something different, whether it's a perm, a relaxer, a jheri curl, purchasing weave or whatever. We all think that our hair is the best thing since slice bread, but of course some of us walk around looking very nappy and think that its cute...NOT!! That is my opinion. As we all age or go through hormonal changes in life, your body changes, you may lose edges, or go completely bald, so don't be so quick to judge what others do for themselves to make them feel better. We all thought that we would be a size 5 forever, well try having babies or more than 10 surgeries before age 40 and battle with thyroid issues, cancer or anything else and see what reformation or transformation you are willing to try. God made us all different for a reason, but did not make us selfish, nasty, mean or rude. I was always taught that if you don't have anything pleasant or nice to say, just say nothing at all. I know that they will be negative comments, so I will say God Bless you in advance and I am praying for you to find strength with positive and encouraging words to help someone. Ms. Alicia, thank you for such beautiful work. God bless you and your viewers🤗🙏

    A relaxer and a curl Reformation are both perms. Perm is short for permanent , permanent straight or permanent curl. The base in a curly perm is ammonium thioglycolate, the base in relaxer is sodium hydroxide. Both of these chemicals are present in Nair this is why you cannot go from one to the other.

    Everyone is entitled to there opinion, I've been a hairstylist for 20 years and I've been using design Essentials products for about 15 years just speaking from expertise .I just need to say a lot of those earlier comments are so ignorant.This system is like the "jeri curl" however it's new age,up to date, has more conditioning properties.Not everyone wants to be natural,and a lot of people who are want this LOOK, it is healthy for the hair and will grow your hair.its an alternative to relaxing your hair and or just natural hair. In my opinion I think it's beautiful and I think that it will look very nice on a lot of people who are natural that throw a lot of Moisturizer in your hair trying to get the same look.but each is own (shoulder shrugs.

But the rewording of these new things are unnecessary. In my opinion. Call it what it is. It's very cute though, and that's coming from an all natural girl.

    • @mcoordinator
      @mcoordinator 6 років тому +9

      It's not an "alternative" to relaxing ...it IS relaxing.
      You're entitled to love chemical treatments bc it keeps Black hair stylists in business. There's a hella lot less profit in today's wash n goes, deva cuts and twist outs bc a lot of it can be done from home and with proper education & technique you can't ruin a twist out or worse, burn your scalp and edges using shea & mango butters and carrier oils...home hair care is on the rise & we know salons are feeling the loss.
      So prop up "lye adjacent" products all you want...it's still a relaxer...a Jeri Curl.
      What differs her hair from the 80s version i grew up with? Yes, better chemicals ...but chemicals none the less.
      No chemical treatment that requires gloves is completely harmless or healthy for your hair.
      So these aren't "ignorant " comments as you put it, they're educated comments. We now have access to the science of hair, telling us what we previously DIDN'T know about our hair and that worries beauty companies & stylists who play on Black hair insecurities and Black hair ignorance to make BILLIONS. They know it's more profitable to keep you on the creamy crack...or creamy crack adjacent products rather than buying natural ingredients that are becoming more & more easily available at on the ground retailers.
      This isn't a trend ...
      It's a mental shift . It would be easier to sell Black women on this product if it were just a trend ...That's why the push back is so strong .
      We know better now!

      Rearranger is the first process of a thio perm for highly textured hair. It is nothing new, been around for over 30 years. Closer to 40 years I believe... Its can be done as a dry curl which requires less product to keep from breaking or a wet curl that requires it to stay wet.

    • @rosechardonnay5351
      @rosechardonnay5351 7 років тому

      This is more similar to a Jheri Curl which was popular in the 80s. The main difference between this and a curly perm that a white person would get is that this process requires the extra step of chemically softening the hair's natural texture prior to wrapping it in the rollers. But the concept is basically the same.

    • @CMM726

      It's similar. This process requires the hair be relaxed with a thio relaxer first and then a thio perm is applied.
      White people or clients with straight hair who wish to have it curly don't have to relax first. The same active ingredient is used. It's called ammonium thioglycolate. This one has a much lower ph than the one used for soft curl permenant.

    The moisture wrap is a perm solution. Neutralizer stop the chemical from altering and further damaging the hair while locking the curl pattern, vinegar would do the same thing too. In other words 2 perms process in one day. That's stronger than a relaxer. She did not say the chemical base of the products. Most Afro American perms have 3 steps. A texturizer is the mildest one for example Maintamer hair straightener for all kind of textures. Knowing the base of any perm is key.

    Unfortunately most people call the relaxer a perm but it isn't! Curl Reforms are Perms that aren't as harsh as a Relaxer is. Never try a curl reform product if you still have relaxed hair it'll just break off. This has always been an option but most people know about it thanks to Beauty School.

Yeah... extra with the example cause if you loved it natural hair...you would NEVER get tired of it. Change is good...but tired? That's sad. No self esteem.

      Well, i understand her. I have thin curly/wavy hair and i have to wash it EVERY SINGLE DAY because my curls don't survive overnigth (the end up shapeless and tangled) and if i brush them i get a big frizzy mess. The only way to keep them nice is to style my hair while it is wet, and it takes a lot of time to repeat the process every day so i'm considering a relaxer not because i hate it but to save time in the morning :(

      Cloves Painted Canvas I feel her though im not tired of my natural hair but i like the look of the looser texture and honestly. Its just a hell of a lot faster in the morning/wash day/ blow out all that mess.

    By Choice I am natural. But by the comments I'm ashamed of the natural hair community. We still need to be supportive of each other no matter what. We always divide within our own culture. You guys should be ashamed you stand for natural hair but yet put others down within your own culture..please stop we have enough obstacles against us, and enough hurdles without creating more foolishness within😍😍😍

    PEOPLE it's not going on your hair so why are y'all so angry? Chill and let people do whatever the hell they want. I personally love my natural hair, but some people dont so they change it. Let them be.
