Great old song. My wife used to sing some French Canadian songs with her family. Because of my Swedish heritage, she took the time to learn this song in English. Whenever her family would have a get-together and sing their songs we were always asked to sing Nickolina. She had a beautiful voice which made up for my tone deaf monotone. This song brings back many beautiful memories. She and her family are gone now but Nickolina stays alive. Thank you for posting it.
Thank you, Terry, for this video/song of Nikolina. You did a great job of singing and playing it...quite enjoyable. My dad (84) grew up in Minnesota and loves it, and found it for all of us on tape when my kids were little so they got to learn it and more of our Norwegian heritage. Thanks for the info at the end....it was wonderful that you gave that tribute to the history! Blessings!
From the comments on this and other versions, it seems this should be Minnesota's state song. My maternal grandfather, a first-generation Swedish-American, sang this in Swedish. No one knew he had made an a cappella version on a cassette until he passed away. It was played at his funeral; not a dry eye in the house.
Origin of the name Nicole: A feminine form of Nicolas, which is from the Greek Nikolaos, a compound name composed of the elements nikē (victory) and laos (the people): hence, "victory of the people."
When using Google translator "Att vara kar det ar en ryslig pina" translates to "Being a mess is a messy pussy". Is this someones attempt at off color humor?
My dad would sing this in Swedish to me when I was little.....this brings tears to my eyes...he would play it on his harmonica too.
..same happens to me. My Nannabannana Grandma loved me and played it to knock me out for a knap on the old tube console.
How very sweet,'. Was he Swedish?
My Father would play this on his accordion. One of many of my favorite songs. RIP Dad.💜🇸🇪💜

This is the one song I can sing in Swedish, with my Luleå accent, that doesn't make the Stockholmers wince.
Nice name hehe
*Micael jackson wants to know your lokation*
Ich habe Nikolina😅❤️
I'd first heard it as more of a polka. He had almost worn the tape out.
This song should be sung in 3/4 and 4/4 time bouncing back and forth between the two.
I'm a complete music illiterate, but there is something about the rythm I just love. Do you know of any other song with the 3/4 and 4/4?
@@barbalalla2003 No, I don't know of any others.
