The Celts called this feast Litha. In Latvia it is Ligo, in western Russia and Belarus, Ivana Kupala. A song about the imagination and purification of nature, the shortest night of the year. Ordinary witches sing. The fact is that the Holy (their mother) inquisition on these lands was not allowed. And never let it go. We love our witches. this is honestly one of the best arrangements i've seen. Despite being a single melodic phrase with a slight rhythmic variation and only using voice and drums, I am engaged throughout the entire song. In the beginning, its just a dank drum beat and you begin to wonder if there is any harmony coming. Then they start singing but all in unison, no harmonies but the syncopation in the melodic rhythm is infectious. Then the drums cut out and they break into the full harmonies without the drums to distract and these harmonies are perfect so it really just pops. Then they bring it all home with a dope dance and the drums to feverish crescendo. Very well done ladies. I would love to see more simple drum + voice arrangements like this that on first listen may seem basic but upon closer inspection are actually very musically interesting.
If you enjoyed this arrangement of well balanced voices + drums, you might love the Polish groupe Laboratorium Piesni who also sings in Belarusian. Their most famous song is Sztoj pa moru (Што й па мору) but among the lesser known ones I prefer Oj Palja (Ой Паля)
im glad you liked it! many of our folk songs have a similar feel to them. another good example that is on youtube is Ozoliņi by the channel AuliEtnotranss

And they didn’t give it and will not let it burn at the stake. Take care of your witches :-) Because our mother is not a church, our mother is nature.
for those who aren't fluent in english don't confuse "witches" with "bitches"
@@herodotus945 Weren't, for the most part, witches of the "non-abrahamic" variety...ergo, by current definition....pagan? Yeah yeah, if you want to get pedantic, the word "pagan" has been skewed throughout the ages.
@Robin Nilsson that is an out dated myth popularised by fake feminists, the medicine you mentioned was worthless. Village woman used herbs while in church sponsored universities they studied Galen, many Jesuits were doctors.
@Robin Nilsson Nobody in the 19th century cared about ecclesiastical attitudes in the academia. Likewise those medical herbs used by some peasant women were rarely of use, not to mention that Louis Pasteur was a devout Catholic.
@Robin Nilsson why are you even telling me about bacterias ? That is not our subject, you are more boring than my old biology profesor.
Ive not a clue what they are saying, but they sing beautifully. They are a very pretty and talented group.
its interesting to watch. I see comments that they are from Latvia. Thank you for letting us know. I will definitely look into Latvia more. I Always love learning new things.
Another good recommendation from UA-cam, thanks!
this is honestly one of the best arrangements i've seen.
Their most famous song is Sztoj pa moru (Што й па мору) but among the lesser known ones I prefer Oj Palja (Ой Паля)
im glad you liked it! many of our folk songs have a similar feel to them. another good example that is on youtube is Ozoliņi by the channel AuliEtnotranss
this helped me conceptualize why femininity developed the power it did/has in opposition to male muscletry
The more I watch this, the more details I notice
- They’re standing in height order
- The belts are in a pattern (silver, green, red)
- They’re all wearing basically the same dress, but each one has different cut-outs
And they're wearing bicycle sprockets as brooches.
@@grantm6514 Yeah ... Yes, in the moment i realized it, i had to burst out laughing!!
All but one of them is wearing a button down shirt, and the middle button is bright red.

@@asdfjkl7430 It's a refrain for Latvian traditional midsummer songs. Literal translation is "sway" (to sway).
After loving this song for so long just because I loved the energy you put out, I actually started taking it apart today. You invite gentle sprits to join you in this musical endeavor. It seems to me you have a good request. The rest is trying to explain why your pantheon needs to pay attention, and they should. You have done a fantastic job of explaining your gods, and sharing their preferred method of communication.
Just riding around, looking for the Holy Grail, then all of a sudden .... witches.
No witches, just healthy looking Eastern European women.
@Sarah Gray Healthy looking women and they aren't even nobility? Definitely witches.
@@maxmichalik4938 No, just good genes, proper nutrition and modern health care (the latter is available these days even in Lithuania) My mother in law looked very similar when she was young, and she grew up on a farm in Karelia.
@Sarah Gray Did you just seriously take me seriously? I mean, seriously...
@@maxmichalik4938 I was joking too... although my mother in law supposedly had a birth mark on the back of her neck that supposedly meant that she was indeed a witch and could communicate with nature spirits. Her son also had the same birthmark (though the spirits he consorted with were of the alcoholic kind) and his children have it too, but so far the most eldritch thing about either of them is his daughter's red hair and his son's fondness for Pokemon.
