@volvot6rdesignawd702 if you save 3-4 kg on each wheel, that's 12-16 kg weight saved overall, so not huge. The benefits of reducing unsprung mass also makes for quicker suspension movement so better handling. I'm sure racing teams know what the real world benefits are, but I have been able to find out definitive data. The problem with rotational mass is it depends how the weight is distributed. MG should drop these to 50k and watch them sell like hotcakes. Before you say they won't, Abarth dropped their 500e 20k in New Zealand so it will be well within the realm of possibility.
I like the idea but think about the relative natures of those two businesses. Fiat - a VERY minor player in a TINY market like NZ, compared to MG, a top 10 player in what is considered to be the most competitive market on earth…..

It’s a shut up and take my money from me. I think it looks great and I would be extremely interested in an XPower with these add ons. MG Australia hit me up and let’s have a serious conversation.
I’m still on the fence about this, there is a massive gap in infrastructure for EVs in Australia until they can get the infrastructure moving in a faster direction it’s not quite for me. For the price it is very very attractive. However since I don’t have the money for a home wall charger or the capability in my meter box without major upgrades the inconvenience of charging an EV is a killer for me. I am not the type of person who can be bothered to spend more than 10mins waiting for a recharge or refuel. I hate having to visit a petrol station for me it is in & out in as little time as possible.
You must be getting bad advice on a charge unit, we installed 7kw charger single phase at 2.5k, charge overnite for 6c kwh most houses run 80 amp line in, unfortunately we could not get 3 phase but you can pull 42kw for your battery oiin one charge while you sleep. Ive got the GT Ev6 real mover 77kw battery and no problem charging, combined with solar costs me zero $ for the last year. Id look into it even on a 60 amp comming in to your house which would be rare, you could easily fit a charger, and dont go by dealers selling a charger they quoted 6k for same thing.
I got a 7.4kW wall box installed at my house for $2500. In the scheme of things, compared to a $60,000 car, it seems a minimal cost for the outright convenience it offers.
Funny enough, MG is not as Chinese as the Chinese EV. Their model is developed for EU market which makes them rather unpopular in the Chinese market, but it should fare quite well in the Australian market.
Just one more thing, please for the love of life, fix the dam traction control, its like some kind of fun police! So many times power is rolled back because of one tiny slip. And during that process it never lets you go full beans until u lift off and hit it again. TC cant really be turned off, it will hook up better , but if you have any slip , it rolls the beans back even further. also, allow for a rear only mode without eco, and with more playful TC, i like to have the rear step out at times. One more thing, i know theres more beans under the hood, precondition the battery and allow a time limited animal mode. Dare say another 100kw in it.
After owning my X power for about 4 months now there a 2 ( ride and handling wise ) big issues 1. the stock tyres are terrible .. so at some point when the pilot sport 5s have buy 3 get the 4th free or a $200 cash back i will be ditching the stock bridgestones !! 2. which is quite bad the car ( maybe by design or just to gain traction) squats at the rear WAY to much under acceleration which makes it very light at the front ( or to be more specific it lifts the front off the ground to much making it lack steering traction ) picture a drag car lifting the front so you lose traction and the steering is super light and the car sways and moves across the road when launched .. my Hope is by dropping the car 30mm all round with the H&R springs and stiffening up the front and more so the rear suspension will force the front down on to the road more by having less squat at the rear .. This package at 5k without the wheels ( to be honest light weight wheels will do very little accept maybe decrease 0-100 times by a insignificant amount ) otherwise springs , tyres and bodykit for 4 to 5k would be a great option !! and MG should offer it in my opinion !!
Julian Edgar has an xpower. He is a bit of a suspension expert and reckons the best mod is a smaller front anti-roll bar. Makes the front softer in roll and therefore reduces understeer.
@@rjbiker66 handling of the car around corners is decent .. its no race car or refined hot hatch in my opinion .. Franky on public roads ( these days ) you could spend 400k on a Lambo or Ferrari and still never use the full handling potential of the vehicle so for the twisties the X power ( with better tyres ) will be much better.. what i refer to is the launch in a straight line it wiggles about as if the front of the car has lifted off the ground just that little to much .. i often find my self drifting across lanes with out even moving the steering wheel under full acceleration from the lights .. which is what i hope the lower H&R springs will ( maybe not completely fix ) improve alot ..

Still with the brake caliper covers 😬 Nothing tells the world you have no idea about performance cars more clearly than this. I'll buy one when it comes with bigger brakes and no covers
@@therightcar true, but they don't harm performance - caliper covers will increase brake heat. Last thing you want. Looks crap too. Spoilers if subtle enough, look nice and don't dull performance.
Fo r me the interior design is dull and boring compared to Renault Megane E Tech. The drivers display is too square and the infotainment screen is too small but the exterior is muscular. I also like that its very quick for a hatchback and RWD.
To be bluntly honest, this is how the standard X-Power should come. They market it as some beast and it gets such poor reviews apart from straight line performance (which lets face it most EV's have so it makes it then nothing special) so it SHOULD come with all this stuff at the current X-Power price as standard. There is a current run out on all MG's and to be honest that would be the MOST I'd ever pay for one, I see their run out special prices as a price most people would pay at the very most and that is ONLY because they now also come with a 10 year warranty but they STILL lack things I'd want in a car at that price. I also don't know why most Chinese cars apart from their "performance" versions are SO slow when Tesla's are ALL great and zippy like EV's are (just instant torque) so playing down these feature in their cheaper models MG could have done so much better. Even then I'm having a real hard time convincing myself of parting with my classic 90's sports car that has as much performance as this (and costed a fraction of the price, altho not anymore) and my BMW Series 3 that I don't want to part with as it is so so comfortable and reliable to drive. So I'd want that X-Power to solve and be a 2 in 1 car for me but yeah the quality control issues are really worrying from reviews I read (owners and prof testers) it seems so hit and miss as some have zero problems and others have tons. And absolutely not a fan of those brake covers.... they should be proper brakes..... not dressed up as proper ones that then catch on fire as they are done on the cheap. PS that screen really sucks and would annoy the hell out of me. But yeah all those things mentioned in the video (which is a good review) should be standard and the brakes and screen still suck, plus the charging speeds are meh, especially for the price....
It's a one trick pony - as a car to live with it's pretty awful. It's super cheap in quality terms and has an awful, totally unfriendly digital interface, with the worst bluetooth integration I've seen since 2011. At 3miles/kw it's poor as a commuter. The wireless charging location is dumb as any acceleration sends your phone flying, and the USB locations are out of sight and awkward to access. The steering wheel I like though and it's so rapid from a standing start, but at higher speeds the acceleration is nothing special.
I had my MG4 Xpower for 6 months now. I'm really really happy with it. I replaced my wheels with a 19inch. It's even better to drive. I had no problems with the car.

All that said for a little over 60k with all them mods its still cheap fast motoring !!
Got the springs ready to fit into my xpower. Can’t wait, looks so much better.
Awesome mate!! Wheels changing, too??
@@therightcar I do have a set of 19” cast 13s in my garage that were on my trophy, but I actually like the xpower standard wheels.
Cool!!
What springs exactly?
@@JeffGoris H&R springs. They are now fitted. Car looks and handles better.
Looks great. Definitely think they should offer this option.
Thanks mate - I think it’s a huge improvement, appearance-wise.
Awesome review as usual! Any word yet on being able to review the Ssangyong Korando Ultimate?
Thanks mate. Still no luck with the Korando. It might be due an update soon, with the company rebranding!
@@therightcarYeah, it might be worth waiting to see what they do with that first. Having said that tho, Im going to go test drive one next friday to see if I like it. If I do I'll be seriously considering it for purchase.
If you shop around youll see them for $42k ! With a handful of kms on the clock
Its just how the X-Power should come. Price-wise… about $50k. Maybe more if it had a brake upgrade and better interior seats to match. Something like what Renault do with their RS versions.
1:38 To me it's fine, people have TOYOTA printed in an absurd font size on the backs of their utes and no one seems to care.
7:30 Great fun hahaha
This is more like those Civics a few generations ago with the Modulo kit. Remember that??
100% right got mine and need the sound I think to trick me lol
Any update on if they are offering this?
No word yet.
I’m curious. Got a MG4 MY24. What did they update on the xpower for 2025
Nothing yet. But this is a custom offer built by MG Australia to see what the market wants!!
@@therightcar guess I find out in 6 hours.
@@therightcar5-8 grand pack on top of the regular xpower. I think that a fair price.
They could add an air suspension and better touch screen.
@@marcc.490 as someone with extensive modified car ownership... 8k is taking the piss for some shorter springs, wheels and a spoiler kit; you're talking roughly 7% of the car cost.
@@JethroRoseokay noted. Haven’t delved in the realm of car modifications yet but you got curious at the options of modifying my mg4 after the 7 years warranty expires.
The way the Chinese work is an eye opener, co operation, shared technology, manufacturing techniques! Capitalism is done 😮😂😂😂
Is it worth doing a side-by-side comparison with an Ioniq N?
I reckon if they kept it to somewhere around $5-10k more than the current price they’d do well.
ill take the BYD Seal Performance its so much better car then the MG4
Yeah the current price is $55,990 plus on roads, I think if this was the old price ($59,990 plus on roads) it might be a goer!
the body kit is the one made in Thailand ssporty $700 for the springs 800 for pedders to fit as ive been told as for the wheels waste of money ditch the turanzas for a set of pilot sport 5s lowered springs and ditch the crummy stock tyres and i think you will have a very good package !!
My xpower is going to get the springs and the tyres soon and i think thats all it needs ..
Report back on the changes mate!!
The Thailand-made siam body kit looks good think they are about $600au plus freight side skirts could have been done better there is an option of a Roof spoiler.
If MG really wanted to make an improvement they should work on the software mods it will only be a matter of time before a hack is found.
The fun is in the user selecting their mods to be unique.
Your XPower, Your Blank Canvas to Make It Your Own.
Yes i agree, make it your own, MG need to get wider tyres on this, the rubber is meh and the handing in the wet is rubbish because of a few bucks saved on tyres, and claim the 400wltp. Ill give up 10% range for better rubber. Soon as a coilover kit comes out, ill be buying, ideally with interior controller dampener/rebound .
@@jestronixhanderson9898 tyres would make a big improvement should run high 11's on the 1/4 I have never gone cheep on wheels save my neck a couple of times with DH's doing stupid stuff. Think there are better sway bars about now for them.
🇦🇺 Don't understand why MG toned down the interior to black and boring for OZ when there are photos of the same car in China (called Mulan I believe) with a lighter, more colourful interior.
Because China has more competition, it also has a larger screen and sunroof in China. Probably in a couple of years, if sales are low, they might bring those upgrades.
It’s cheaper and easier to keep it to one colour option, and better to be conservative than get it wrong, right?
If you spend an hour at a shopping mall once a week you’d be sorted.
@@chrishowe2935 I’m not leaving my car plugged in unattended. That’s not something I am prepared to do at this point in time.
@@anakinskywalker4113 what’s your concern?
I think they need to get CATLs or BYDs newest LFP battery tech in it
Where do i sign up to buy this. Seriously. Ready to buy... contact mg directly?
Thanks heaps for the feedback mate. Yep, the springs stiffen it up under full throttle, and I agree, even better tyres would make a big difference.
Nice!!
@@therightcar thank you for the video and the advice !!
The springs are on back order at the place i want to get them but think that will be my first upgrade before tyres just to gauge the improvement before the tyres ..
Mind you ive asked pedders suspension for a rough quote on fitting the springs and $800 to fit $700 springs seems a bit steep .
few other places in Victoria ive asked seem a bit reluctant to tackle the job sadly !!
I know the tyres are going to really improve the handling and traction with the car as a whole ..
as my volvo name implies i had a 2012 volvo s60 t6 r design AWD and was running pilot sport 5s on it and was a weapon wet or dry ..
granted i was only shoving 250kw through the AWD system not 320kw and the volvo felt more refined so we will see
Looks sick!

From the thumbnail I thought MG put in a frunk!
Kinda disappointed that they didn’t 😢
Hahahaha I wouldn’t make a video this long about a frunk. 🙌
Wow the new wheels look amazing and it just looks more planted. Would I buy this over the standard, yes. Would it depend on the pricing, definitely. My opinion only, I think the standard xpower should be $55k drive away and this tuned version at the top $60k drive away 🤔
Interesting take!
Still with the brake caliper covers 😬
Nothing tells the world you have no idea about performance cars more clearly than this.
I'll buy one when it comes with bigger brakes and no covers
Haha! If that’s the case you should hate spoilers too, because they’re largely ineffective at speed-limit velocity.
@@therightcar true, but they don't harm performance - caliper covers will increase brake heat. Last thing you want.
Looks crap too.

It needs the sports seats you can get in China
It would benefit from a body-hugging seat!
It's just a battery powered car. Short term gain, long term pain. 60 grand for a chinese ? car ? No way.
Fo r me the interior design is dull and boring compared to Renault Megane E Tech. The drivers display is too square and the infotainment screen is too small but the exterior is muscular. I also like that its very quick for a hatchback and RWD.
I tend to agree about the interior perhaps not feeling special enough.
If they really want to make the car looks good, the wheels should be 19 inch not 18
I disagree. These 18s look sick. 19s might appear too large. It’s a pretty small car. And I’m less about bling, more about the design.
Why show It mg if we can't buy now not buying the base model
Zeekr X enough said
DOOO IIIIIIT
Hahahaha
That interior isn’t worth 60k
It's a one trick pony - as a car to live with it's pretty awful. It's super cheap in quality terms and has an awful, totally unfriendly digital interface, with the worst bluetooth integration I've seen since 2011. At 3miles/kw it's poor as a commuter. The wireless charging location is dumb as any acceleration sends your phone flying, and the USB locations are out of sight and awkward to access. The steering wheel I like though and it's so rapid from a standing start, but at higher speeds the acceleration is nothing special.
What's a mile?
