    Great job covering some useful aspects! I myself have taken the last step. I have been working as a software developer for over 10 years, than decided to do something a bit different, that is why I decided to start a part-time master degree in "Data Science and Business Analytics". It is 3 years in total(I have done 2 so far) and I think it is worth it. The problem I have right now is applying for a DS job. I do not want to start as a Junior but I also do not have any real working experience with it, apart from some university mini-projects. I would love to find something in between for now, things like software developer for DS projects but those are very rare to find in my experience. Unfortunately it is not that easy!

    It's better to work as a software engineer and let you company pay your data science master degree at the same time. You can save a lot of tuition and don't have to quit good paying job. After graduating, you can even get good raise! Triple WINS!

      Yes that's a very good option. Unfortunately not many companies give this option to their employees but if they do one should go for it.

    I have a bachelor in computer science and I am 7 months into my first software engineering job. But now I want to switch to data science/ML. I already know general programming in python and have some exposure to ML from college courses. I am planning on getting a masters degree in data science from UT Austin but I was wondering if companies in USA would hire a data scientist without a graduate degree or at least without any relevant work experience.

    Hello Dhaval sir big fan of your channel!. Sir I am in final year of computer engineering. I like coding but I am don’t know whether to go to software engineering/development or data science. I like the concept of being a software engineer but I am fearful about its future. I am having these thoughts that software engineering will be oversaturated and in the future data science will be worth switching to. I am having these anxiety filling thoughts that software engineering will not have as many opportunities as data science in the future. Please sir please provide me some guidance sir please

    • @codebasics

      Both software engineering and data science fields are going to continue to flourish and both will have even more job opportunities than what is available. Your fears are totally wrong, don't think much just pick one that you like and work on improving yourself without any self doubt. Good software engineers will always be in demand: for good software engineers data structures, algorithms, competitive coding, computer architecture knowledge is very vital. I see many folks today who learn fancy frameworks like react, django but their fundamental skills are weak. Also soft skills such as communication, presentation, conflict resolution are more important than technical skills but few people focus on those. World is full of opportunities and the future is bright. I wish you all the best.

      With the perspective that you're talking, data science can become outdated as well due to tools like AutoML

  • @samqureshi9415
    @samqureshi9415 3 роки тому

    Is it necessary to have good data structures and algorithms (problem solving) skills . Like solving 250-300 problem .or we can directly start with data science skills.

    • @codebasics
      @codebasics  3 роки тому +1

      You can directly start data science skills. Basic knowledge of DSA always helps but you don't need to be an expert so dont worry about solving those many questions and start your data science journey straight away.

    Python is slow in certain tasks , like in competitive programming sometimes python solutions would be TLE(time limit exceeded) but code in other languages with same asymptotic complexity get accepted

    • @sharmakartikeya
      @sharmakartikeya 3 роки тому

      You are comparing Python with other languages for a domain that is completely untouched by Python. Python was never made for Software Development and 'Providing Developer Solutions to Company Problems with Data Structures and Algorithms'.
      Why not compare Python with Java and C++ for something like Data Handling or Web Scraping or something within these bounds. Python definitely is slow for fundamental implementations but covers up quite well for performing these 'Higher Level' Tasks by using external modules built on top of C and C++.
      Because Python takes the advantage of using C/C++ along with the ease in code writing because of being loosely-typed, it is a wonderful choice for programmers.
      Moreover, the future is simply bright for Python as it will continue to use low-level languages to speed up its own implementation and maybe one day improve on a fundamental basis as well.
      Peace.
