    Thank youu brother, this is what I needed!! I'm putting fiber optics into some concrete steps now, then im getting back to iit. I found that exact sprayer on Amazon already. And I have to try to replicate Colorado granite with the green moss man, oy. Say though, did you say what you mix with the acrylic to thin it down? (really that blows my mind, but that's more my speed. I have painted many many houses and I used to make art with the leftover and scrap from home depot..) buuuut just water or is it something else if it's not water based? Keep it uup

    Wow, absolutely amazing Dave. What color is the base color paint?

    • @DaveHendersonFakeRockVideos
      @DaveHendersonFakeRockVideos  4 роки тому

      Thanks for the kind words! Appreciate it. :) For this project I needed to start with a light cream color since I needed to try and match the real rock boulders that were around the pool area we were working in. After that I add darker, (just a little) usually light browns/oranges/yellows on the various sides or planes of the rocks. Not all the same color everywhere. That doesn't look as natural. Finally when I'm happy with the overall "base color" I add brown/orange and dark black/brown, (2 different colors) into the cracks, (the dark black/brown) and sometimes spray color on the surfaces of the stones to add more vibrancy to the feature. I do this holding a garden hose in my right had and the two sprayers in my left... I call this the "wet technique". Anyway, if you'd like to check out more fake rock how-to's, including free pdf downloads go to www.davehenderson.podia.com For my blogs and links to other platforms you can try www.daverhenderson.com Hope you have an awesome day! Hi Dave,
    Question for you. My client tried brushing off some calcium from the water line and it looks like it scraped off the top layer of paint. The faux rock is almost black and the area he scrubbed is greyish white. Do you have a recommendation to repair this?
    Thanks for the video

    • @DaveHendersonFakeRockVideos
      @DaveHendersonFakeRockVideos  3 роки тому +1

      Powerwash the area then need to add new paint. Use high qualith paint and tape off all areas that shouldn't get paint. Then layer the paint on with a sprayer as my video shows. Don't want to try and do it in one shot. Watch for dripps and dab them off with a dry towel if you see any. Hope that helps. what is your paint to water ratio?

    • @DaveHendersonFakeRockVideos
      @DaveHendersonFakeRockVideos  4 роки тому

      Hi Kathie, For the ratio you can experiment to see what you like but to get the paint mix to shoot out of the prayer it's about 1 part paint to 5 parts water. But I've never measured it. I just pour about a 1/4 of a gallon into my water filled, (about a third full) 1 gallon used juice bottles and then add water to about 3/4 full.... Once done you will see as you spray if it's too thick or thin... It kinda shows you by how it flows.... So I hope that helps. @@DaveHendersonFakeRockVideos Thank you Dave. The link you have to your free pdf gives me a security warning. I'm not actually making rocks. Although I'd love to try one day. I'm sculpting with cement. A new adventure for me. I don't like the look of raw cement and would like to give it some color but don't want to "paint" it. I've looked into acid stains, but they are pretty expensive and hard to get. House paint is readily available at the local big box store. Have you tried wood stain? You mention Cal Tints, but I'm not sure what you are doing with them. Are you adding it to the paint mix or mixing them by them self? Thanks for these awesome videos.

    • @DaveHendersonFakeRockVideos
      @DaveHendersonFakeRockVideos  4 роки тому

      Hi Katie, not sure what the security warning is about. Try rebooting your phone or computer. On coloring cement mixes, there should be liquid cement tints in the box stores. They work pretty well. You can also experiment with stucco as your creative material. The base is usually white so color can be much more vibrant. And they have tints for that too. They're a powder. Stucco is just a little softer than Portland cement mixes I'm pretty sure. And then you can get white Portland at pool contractor supply stores that again give brighter colors. Try adding fiberglass fibers to you mixes and they'll start to behave more like clay as you work it, (just a pinch of fibers then mix with a power drill mixer and mortar mix bit). Plus you can add different grits of sand or other aggregates including glass beads. Gently sponge off the finished surfaces revealing their awesome colors and textures! So many options for creative expression! Oh, and remember to include an acrylic add-mix liquid to all you mixes, (1 to 6 or 8 ratio of water) like Sika, (at box stores). Helps it last and improves workabilty. So there ya go. Hope that helps. Cheers! :)
