Love all your videos, and your ebook was really informative too. Thanks for sharing your information with us. I live in Utah and I can't find LaHabra Fog Coat (or any other brand of Fog Coat) any where. I've made phone calls all over the state and have even checked with every cement and stucco supplier within a two hundred mile radius. The only thing I can find is the color hardener powder, but I saw someone already commented on that. I don't think this type of stuff does well in our area where we have a lot of freeze/thaw problems. So far I've been making rocks with no color. Also, I'd love a detailed video showing how you shape rebar. You briefly mention in your book that you mostly bend it with hands and knees, but I'd love to actually see how a rock takes shape. Again, that's for sharing all your information. I love all of your work.
Hi Jennifer, I got a kidney transplant back in June so I've been recovering, (very slowly) since then thus my late response. Sorry about that. Anyway, yes, you must be correct that the fog coat product doesn't hold up. And I'm not surprised. It is softer than regular mortar, (you can score it with a fingernail). An alternative would be to color regular Portland with cement colorants, (remember to add an acrylic add-mix liquid to your batches, Home Depot has a Sika product) and then you could use the hopper sprayer to put it onto larger areas and/or use a large brush to dip and flick the material onto your feature. On rebar shaping I have a cool Mini Course that shows in more detail how and why I shape my stones and projects the way I do. You can check that out if ya like. The examples are demonstrated on a dry erase board as opposed to my actually bending the steel in person but none the less I think is very instructive. Here's the link davehenderson.podia.com/faux-rock-university-mini-course-102-how-to-make-a-rock It's two videos and pdf downloads. I'm also working on a full course titled "How to Design & Build a $17,000* Waterfall Slide Feature". Soon to be beta launched, with all of my paid customers, (folks who've purchased one of my products, not just the free stuff) for half off! After the beta launch it will run $349. This course WILL show you how to shape rebar with my demonstrating this in person on multiple jobs... Anyway stay tuned for that. So there ya go. Hope this info helps. Thanks sending me a message again my apologies for the late response. Best wishes, Mr. Dave :)
@@DaveHendersonFakeRockVideos Thanks so much for the answer. You're always so informative. And I'd love to be a beta reviewer for your new course. Thanks again for the information, and I'll check out the link you posted above.
Home Depot has a Lahabra product called exterior stucco patch . Is this the product you used for the fog coat? I’ve also seen other products called Shake on color hardener used for stamped concrete made by Butterfield and Brickform. Are you familiar with these products? Read your ebook and have watched many of your videos. I have learned a lot . Thanks
Hi Glenn, thanks for the kind words. Haven't tried the stucco patch or the shake-on color hardener. They might be fine. Just need to do some experimenting. The LaHabra I do use comes in 25lb bags with these colors: www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.centralstucco.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2015%2F02%2FLaHabra-standard-colors.jpg&imgrefurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.centralstucco.com%2Flahabra-system%2Fcolor-chart%2F&tbnid=xiTrbbr8XgbIsM&vet=12ahUKEwi27v-59u_oAhWUFjQIHekbAhEQMygSegUIARCEAg..i&docid=RTJ3Kf3TkXZfvM&w=1024&h=1140&q=Lahabra%20fog%20coat%2C%20photos&ved=2ahUKEwi27v-59u_oAhWUFjQIHekbAhEQMygSegUIARCEAg Sorry for the huge link.... FYI: I also use Brickform Colored Release Powder when doing stamped work.. But I'm sure any concrete designed release powder would do. Anyway, Have fun trying different stuff. That's how cool effects get discovered! And thanks again for the message. So glad you've gotten some value out of my videos etc. I have a new full Course getting launched shortly so stay tuned for that. Best of luck to you and God Bless, Cheers, Mr. Dave :)
Dave! I've looked all over for a variety of fog coats, particularly the green one? How do I find this? I see a lot of websites talking about it, but none so far that make it easy actually to buy.
Great question! Both issues really... But the market also must be considered as well as the reputation and strength of the builder. Some guys can command large budgets. Others can't. As a general starting point however, it's usually cost of goods, (labor, subcontractors, supplies and materials etc.) plus a percentage for marketing, overhead, profit, and sales commission. Hope that helps. :) www.davehenderson.podia.com www.daverhenderson.com www.hendersonarts.com

Does the cement have to be wet or at least damp? I'm creating sculptures and they can take me several weeks to complete. By that time the cement is rock hard. Can I wet the sculpture down then apply the fog coat?
Hi Kathie, thanks for the question. Yes, the cement needs to be newly applied as the stucco fog coat product is a softer material when set and thus gets integrated a bit into the wet Portland based texture coats. However, you could get white Portland cement and color it then spray it on to get any number of colors. It would however look like a sprayed on coat as opposed to the random dusting pattern you get when you throw on the powdered fog coats. And remember to always add the acrylic add-mix to all your texture coats that go onto cured concrete or mortar batches. Also, I'm not sure if this would interest you but I have lots of other faux rock how-to's, including free pdf downloads, and for just a few more days when you purchase one of my for sale cheaper products I'm offering a 50% off discount on my new and most comprehensive course, "How to Design & Build a $17,000* Faux Rock Waterfall/Slide Feature". I don't know where you are but I get mine at a contractor supply store here in El Cajon, CA. But I use La Habra so you might be able to get it shipped to you or to a distributor in your area. I just pick earthen tones. Best of luck to you! :)
I’ll need to see what contractor stores I have around me in Washington/Oregon. For now I ordered some stuff on the Home Depot website. It’s from Lahabra, but called Exterior stucco Patch. I belive this is the same stuff. Comes in 9lb box with all the same earth and tone colors.
Keep up the "lectures" I enjoy them as much as the rock art. Thanks
Thank you James. Have free pdf downloads and more at davehenderson.podia.com if ya like. 👍😎
