- Welcome to episode 6 where I am reminded that with Musky fishing, persistence pays off. The video starts off when my dad and I spend a calm May day in search of the elusive Musky. 12 Musky encounters later and still no fish in the net. I then returned to the same lake in September of this year and the day was filled with excitement from beginning to end. I hope you enjoy!

"On paper its a decent day, but muskies can always throw a wrench in the situation." - No truer words have ever been spoken! Awesome video, as always.
Thank you. These fish confuse me the more I fish for them. 😄
Nice cabbage dragon

Was this in the spring? We get a lot of them mouthing it like they were doing to you that time of year.
Yes it was. Early May. Very strange can't say I've seen that before but interesting to know it happens to you as well.
@@sgangling yeah they do that to any pull pause over here in the spring. Rubber, twitch, DNR I’ve had them do it to all of the above.
@@MattVavrochFishing Interesting. What have you thrown to make them strike...or is that not possible when they're in that mood?
@@sgangling honestly I haven’t been able to figure it out. If there is something you have confidence in that can trigger. I would chuck that.
I think you should get your net more ready. You’re going to lose a monster someday because if it
Where did ya get that hook sharpener?

I wish we had muskie out here but I feel I far prefer our world class trout fisheries
Big trout have ways been on my bucket list. You certainly have it plenty good even though you don't have Musky.
@@sgangling I live near one of the only places you can keep bull trout in north America. And I have been trying to target those on a fly for a few years now off and on, that and I've been getting into the salmon and steelhead fisheries around so while I do get envious I don't take what I have for granted. Muskies are a awesome looking fish to hook into
You need to follow your own advice about keeping the net clear in the boat
You are right! It's amazing how things end up on or near the net without you noticing. Always good to do frequent net checks to make sure it's Musky ready.
@@sgangling great video bro, tight lines
@@kevinwimmer4159 Thanks Kevin. Same to you!
You need a partner
I have plenty but I do appreciate fishing alone at times
You need to speed up when you get to the boat!!! Trigger a strike with speed!!!! I have never had that many follows without a bite! Speed closes the deal!!!
That's a great strategy but on this particular day I tried everything and they weren't having it. As soon as I would speed things up they would see the boat and dart off.
Last time I went muskie fishing my brother had a follower and was doing the figure 8 so I reeled my bait in as fast as I could, completely burning it in, so I could get ready with the net. Then as I’m about to pull it out of the water a 50” fish absolutely crushed it and I nearly dropped my rod. That was the best one I’ve had because I wasn’t even watching it, I was watching the fish following my brother’s bait. I almost needed to change my shorts.
