I'd listen to Stephen Fry for hours and hours. A very charming man and an amazing actor.

I have read "De Profoundis", the letter Wilde wrote to Douglas in prison. And I was astonished by how real the movie is. It almost contain all the details, all the real history happened in Wilde's life. Fry is marvelous, I think he got the essence of Wilde's characteristic. Thank you for the video.

I had the privilege of hearing Stephen Fry this summer at the Niagara Shaw Festival. He delivered three monologues, a trilogy based on Greek mythology, Gods, Monsters and Mortals. Each took nearly two hours and there was not a note or aide memoire to be seen. It could not have been written and learned beforehand for he took questions etc from the audience.
His delivery was superbe, his mastery of the English language was outstanding and his presence was such that only he could command.
I had the pleasure of lunch in a local restaurant after, when I met Mr Fry. He was with a small party and I didn't want to intrude. Nevertheless, we chatted for five minutes, I reminded him of his Somerset cousins with whom I went to school. Then I left, not wanting to interrupt his lunch party further.
I almost skipped back to my table! I'd spoken with Oscar Wilde!!

Stephen Fry BECAME Oscar Wilde, he WAS Oscar, and he, it would have seemed, RESURRECTED Oscar, in a manner that no one else ever could, or ever will. Amazing!!

Indeed. Fry acts perfectly. When I watched the movie I was amazed with him and his way of look, smile and being serious and his way of talk, as well. It was almost like see Oscar Wilde personally. He is my favorite actor at all.

I've put the faces of Oscar Wilde and Stephen Fry next to each other, and there is a passing resemblance between the two. Fry plays him beautifully, and if reincarnation is real I'd say that Stephen Fry was once Oscar Wilde himself in another life. I'd say Stephen Fry is Oscar Wilde reborn into the 20th century.

@mannixisle I have to say I agree, I love many british actors and somehow it seems that they were born to act, like Stephen, I simply adore him. There are also good American actors as well and Canadian and in many other places in the world. Acting in itself is an art.

  • @lukesanby

@Breeslave Although that would have been wonderful for ourselves to have him here now with less supression, Wilde served England best when he did and any other time he would not have had the affect he did have. Now it would be nice to have more paridoxical satiricists writing out the problems of society as Wilde did beautifully.

Martin Brennan from Sligo is pretty witty, I once heard him calling a priest "A crow-looking bollocks" without a moment's hesitation or preparation on being caught with his fingers in the collection plate. Plus he can get you as many tortoises as you need, he knows a man who breeds them.

What a crappy movie. An imaginative screen writer would have adapted Wilde's plays
to make a charming comedy. The 1960 Peter Finch portrayal was superior as a movie.
I like the part where Finch (as Wilde) uses a pistol to defend himself against the Marquis of Queensbury and his thug.
