    Define love. The Catholic definition is "willing the good of the other". However, there is no wrongful act that justifies a moral outcome, also a profound Catholic teaching. Promiscuity being an immoral act. I'm glad to hear Fry voice that they stopped a physical relationship early on. Whether there was a such a relationship ever, we're not entirely sure. Wilde, a yearning Catholic all his life once stated the he wanted to die Catholic as he could never live as one. But his father forbade it. He formally converted to the Catholic faith before he died.

    Wilde missed by a generation the letters, books and character of GK Chesterton.

    If you've read any of his work, you'd know that Oscar was completely at war with himself and knew all of his decadent, homoerotic acts were, in the most literal sense, completely evil.

    Try not to forget who Wilde and Winston Churchill had in common: Bosie. He shagged the one in bed and the other in court (libel -- WSC won.)

    Bosie led Oscar the same way Yoko dominated John. And we'll never know what each of those artists could have produced without the wrought iron choke collars around their necks they claimed to love.

    What a crappy movie. An imaginative screen writer would have adapted Wilde's plays to make a charming comedy. The 1960 Peter Finch portrayal was superior as a movie. I like the part where Finch (as Wilde) uses a pistol to defend himself against the Marquis of Queensbury and his thug.

    His greatest revenge will be the Brexit debacle: make no mistake, a independent Ireland and most definitely an independent Scotland. from Oscar Wilde' to Allan Turning... the ghosts of the gay men of the Empire's ages will be looking down playing a fiddle why England burns into tribes. just you watch.

    British society is the most perverse society that has ever been, a rotted class system still in full throttle, a smouldering Aristocracy that has no compunction for apology and endless corruption. A hideously ruinous plundering of the so called colonies, and worse still , The demonic way it has dealt with its otherworldly evils with homosexuality...including Alan Turning and countless millions as well. Even that screaming Harpie Margaret Thatcher was part of this poisonous realm. hopefully Brexit will lead to an independent Ireland and most definitely Scotland, : make no mistake about it - the ghost of Oscar Wilde's and all who were destroyed by this insipid culture will be blowing French Horns in acknowledgement. laughing. oh and fuck off Prince Andrew and the rest of those lizards. 🦖 .

    Brian Gilbert has a lump of pig dung for a brain - nobody was a Cultural Marxist, nor a Behaviorist in the 1890's. Listening to Gilbert you might think Wilde and Douglas were never off their mobile phones planning to jet off to faraway places. POSING!!!!! as a Sodomite - PRETENDING to be a Sodomite - Gilbert's remake of the 1960 movie is ridiculous, trite nonsense. Today Wilde and Douglas would be sent to prison for ten years, and would be required to sign the sexual offenders register for the rest of their lives. What they were doing has never been legalised.

    Now I'm confused, I thought marquis was pronounced markee, not markwis as the director here just pronounced it....It was a wonderful movie and I am a big fan of Oscar Wilde, I thought Stephen Fry did an incredible portrayal of Wilde, and the movie was entertaining from the start...

      In English the title is always pronounced like English, 'Marquess'. 'Marquis' is the French title.

    I had the privilege of hearing Stephen Fry this summer at the Niagara Shaw Festival. He delivered three monologues, a trilogy based on Greek mythology, Gods, Monsters and Mortals. Each took nearly two hours and there was not a note or aide memoire to be seen. It could not have been written and learned beforehand for he took questions etc from the audience. His delivery was superbe, his mastery of the English language was outstanding and his presence was such that only he could command. I had the pleasure of lunch in a local restaurant after, when I met Mr Fry. He was with a small party and I didn't want to intrude. Nevertheless, we chatted for five minutes, I reminded him of his Somerset cousins with whom I went to school. Then I left, not wanting to interrupt his lunch party further. I almost skipped back to my table! I'd spoken with Oscar Wilde!!

    I've put the faces of Oscar Wilde and Stephen Fry next to each other, and there is a passing resemblance between the two. Fry plays him beautifully, and if reincarnation is real I'd say that Stephen Fry was once Oscar Wilde himself in another life. I'd say Stephen Fry is Oscar Wilde reborn into the 20th century.

    It is unfortunate that he was born in the Victorian period because his unique personality and Outlook with the perfect for now the world needs people like him to be offbeat beautiful and quirky also it is once I generation men like Oscar Wilde that gives people the opportunity to be allowed to declare this is who I am and I make no excuses for it right man wrong x

    Bosie was a fine poet, by Victorian standards, which quickly changed post-Eliot and post-Yeats. He was never given his due. That was certainly part of the attraction.

    ✂✂✂✂✂ Let's fuck like peanut butter & jelly sandwiches are 100% free; like it's sociologically acceptable to whip out your titanic thrill-hammer, anywhere you want, and pee. Let's make babies like crazy in Maine like an inbred couple who's certifiably fucking baby-making insane. It took a ton of pig cunt-shaving runts to steal peckers from canary- bird aviaries from Lansing to Wheeling with Ned Beatty squealing. In the U.S., Italian restaurants are where Italians go for spaghetti & pizza; where gay dago diners may stuff their faces like Fidel Castro would after taking a stinking pig-shit on the Great Pyramid of Giza.

    He also said if you keep on telling the truth you were bound to be found out .now consider what the child molester said of the victims rights to complain " little boys should be obscene and not heard " He told the truth , and is found out . Little boys were there for his sexual gratification . Doesn't sound so funny now does it .

      @silverstuff182 6 років тому

      Yes, certainly a wide psychopathic streak, no doubt encouraged by the money and privilege but later in life he felt quite sorry for what he'd done. Basically he used Oscar to get back at Queensberry, his father, who had been cruel to Bosie.
