This thing is pretty slick. It won't feed a lot of people, 2-3 in most cases but it is very useful. I usually cycle through new kitchen top appliances especially indoor grill ones and this is one of the better ones I've tried. It does steaks and burgers very well compared to other similarly priced units.
Tried this tonight with longhorn grill seasoning, brined it in kosher salt for an hour and uses New York strips. We did well done. They were perfect! I’d love to try that seasoning you have tho. I also cooked your roasted rosemary potatoes with it...sooooo good! I am loving this xl grill!
A few bits I'd like to add: Walmart (haven't seen it elsewhere) has the XL model for quite a bit less, but it is model FG550 instead of FG551. FG551 is a "6 function" grille, while FG550 is a "4 function" grill. It lacks "Dehydrate" and "Broil," if you can live without those. Otherwise, everything is the same. Given that it's just one heating element at the top with a fan above it, I'm not sure what difference the "functions" do, other than provide different temperature ranges. I went for the FG550 and saved $80. I have the original, and just bought the XL FG550. The grill plate for the XL is HEAVIER than the one for the original -- by a few ounces. I haven't noticed any differences in the results I've gotten with the two different grills. If you don't plug the temperature probe in, the XL won't even display any of the Rare/Medium Rare/etc. stuff -- i.e., it works EXACTLY like the original one without the probe. The ONLY reason I spent another $200-ish for the XL was because the "cooking pot" in the original is enormous. All that "depth" meant that I absolutely, positively could not possibly get it to fit into my dishwasher. Not an issue for some folks, but I want to put everything in the dishwasher. The cooking pot in the XL fits in my dishwasher with ease, leaving plenty of room for all of the other parts, and a whole bunch of other stuff. Whenever I tried (and got poor results) to squeeze the original pot in my dishwasher, it took up an entire half of the bottom rack. The XL simply allowed me to have a Foodi Grill and use a dishwasher like I normally would. As far as I'm concerned, unless you need a LOT of height (original is about twice as "tall" as the XL pot), I recommend the XL. If you DON'T have something "tall" in there, it is a royal pain to try and dig something out, turn it around, and so on, with it way down at the bottom of that tall original pot. With the XL, everything is right there in front of you, easy to deal with. I'll never, ever go back to the original one.
This was awesome! Just cooked for myself on the Medium-Rare 4 setting (could've gone a few minutes longer) but tasted great. Thanks for making it easy to cook on this INSANE contraption!!!
I just watched your videos on the new Ninja Foodi XL.. I love the First one and now this one looks to be just as good as it. The only thing that I noticed is the Depth of the new one. Like you said in the video, I do not think that you will be able to cook anything that is tall inside. I really like that they made it wider so you can cook more food at the same time, which helps. You are the man when it comes to these Videos... Good Cooking to you and keep up the good work... Thanks Bill...
