For a larger family I agree with your conclusion. I think the original is better for empty nesters. The grill gets hotter and takes less space. Again- very helpful.
I did loin chops to 145 today, then I put my potatoes in after being in the mike for 10 min ,everything turned out great,I did it all in the smart grill, keep your videos coming,I enjoy cooking especially on the ninja grills, thanks again and have a wonderful day,I’m from Newfoundland and love watching cooking videos.
I have the original foodie grill with the prob. I never used the prob. I cook a ribeye 1-inch at MAX 510 degrees for 3 mins on each side, allowing it to rest on a plate and its medium-rare. I also spray my steak with olive oil before placing it on the heated grill. They come out perfect with nice grill marks. I love the deep well of my original, but also like the new features of the XL smart grill. If Ninja can make a unit like the smart grill with a deeper well I will buy it in a second. Since I do not have room for both grills for now I will stick with the original. Thank you for your videos, it helps to make a decision.
You make some great points. I really like the deep well of the original but I also like the width of the XL Grill. A combination of the two would be FANTASTIC
If the original still works well for you, then keep it I say. People keep wanting the latest but if it's not actually needed, then I say save your money :)
Thank you for all your videos. You are by far the most informative . I really appreciate how you show us to use other settings beyond frying. I am VERY disappointed that the Ninja cookbooks are so limited. My new short ribs thanks to you are the best I have ever had, beyond restaurant quality . Please continue, Ninja should be paying you as a master chief.
Just currently grilling some rib eye while watching your video now. I've got the XL and it's my second time using it. Fiest time was with chicken legs where I burnt the skin but it was juicey. Still learning using the probe etc
I just want to tell you thank you! This helps me so much!! I have the original ninja. But it just me and my husband I’m cooking for. So the small tray is fine. Thank you for your channel! ❤️
Looks like the grates are hot because there is a sear. But given the grey color seems more like they're steaming than "grilling" because they're enclosed. This is not what I'm looking for. Thanks for the video. It was very helpful. Potatoes look great though!
Love your video. I have the original NFG and prefer it over the new one, from all of the videos I've seen. In the new one, you can hardly fit a spatchcock chicken because it is so shallow. In the original NFG, it is no problemo. I mostly cook filets and ribeyes, but they aren't the size of the ones you cooked--Lordy, those were big. Thanks for your other tips.
FYI: If you let your steaks rest on a wire rack, then the juice would sweat out onto your plate or board. Just saying. IMO, bcos the XL models burner is smaller, that's why the food doesn't cook as nice as in the original, bcos this one has a larger burner.
I’m considering getting a Ninja and researching I came across your video. Very nicely done, I really enjoyed this one, and the dinner looked fantastic. Those potatoes, too, Mmm-mmm! I need to watch more of your videos 👍😊
Have you ever heard of the Ninja Foodi Air Fryer Oven? At this time, I like it more than all my pressure cookers and air fryers!! Its nothing like it. I just wish it was taller. It pre heats in seconds and replaces your full sized oven. I love it.
Thanks for the comparison video, that sizzling steak, and potatoes cooked in the beef fat, I think I'll definitely go for the xl grill, had been wondering for sometime which would be the best to get. Sitting here at 4.18 am in the UK, 🇬🇧 and could just eat that delicious meal you have cooked, I'm feeling hungry now hungry 😢
Thank you so much. We just bought the ninja foodi grill and yours was the first recipe we checked out. We made chicken thighs and then we did the potatoes like you suggested everybody was licking their fingers!! My three year old that eats nothing finished a whole thigh. Thank you
A target temp of 126F is considered rare. Of course when resting the temps will go up a bit, but when I saw the target temp in the XL, I knew it would come out on the rare side. 140 is generally medium
Yes, medium is how I like my steak. You can set it to alert you for whatever temperature you like. That's the great part about cooking at home. Thanks for watching
Your videos are exeptionally well prepared and presented, and you skillfully demonstrate how to use the airfryer grills. However, I love food, and generally can tell as much about food by looking at it as most people can by eating it. I agree with you that cast iron pans are the best for steaks, next to a charcoal grill. Unfortunatelly my apartment is full of grease from cooking steaks, chops, and burgers on my gas stove using high heat in cast iron pans. I am considering purchasing a Ninja airfryer grill to make it easier for me to keep my apartment clean, although the quality of my cooked food will be significantly downgraded. I would prefer the larger surgace area of the XL. However, in my opinion, in all of your Ninja airfryer grill comparison videos, the original model browns and crisps better, and in some cases, significantly better. The XL is too shallow for cooking whole chickens, and the original model browns chickens significantly better. You clearly stated the probable reason, the larger heating element. In my opinon Shark did not do a good job in upgrading their airfryer grill. The Xl would have been better designed with more usable cooking depth (height), and a larger heating element. Their airfryers, I own the 8 quart foodi, are hit and miss. It does not brown and crisp chickens well, and steaks are mediocre. It is excellent for fries and baked potatoes, which is what I use it for. The Cosori air fryer which I returned was much better at cooking whole chickens than the Ninja Foodi airfryer. The Cosori is poorly made, and is probably not durable. The Cuisinart airfryer is more difficult to clean, and also is not well made and durable. In my opinon, Ninja products use better quality raw materials and are more durable than other brands. Your videos are by far the best cooking appliance, comparison videos. I was prepared to purchase the XL airfryer grill, but I have learned from your videos that if I get an airfryer grill, that I should get the original model for better browned, crispier, and tastier food.
You make a great point about cooking with cast iron. While it does yield a superior steak you get quite a bit of grease spatter. The air fryer contains grease well while making an adequate steak. I appreciate your kind words and I'm so glad you found my videos helpful. Thank you so much for watching.
You get a thumbs up for the sizzle and a WHOLE LOT MORE! Have you decided which grill you like better? The very first comparison went to the original....any change of heart? ❤️🙏
Hi, I just noticed at about 5.29 into the video when you opened and turning the steaks in the XL, it was actually set for rare, not med rare. You did set it for MEd rare, but I am guessing at some point the settings moved to rare. But I still enjoyed the video because I was not trusting the Infomercials for these grills. I fell for the Power XL Grill, and it was an absolute joke of a grill. So I am pleased these work as advertised.
It accurately displayed that the food was at the rare stage when she was instructed to flip the steaks. As the time and internal cooking temperature rises, it refelects on the display accordingly. At the end, the display did show med rare.
I have the Power XL grill. It's good for making a hamburger but not a steak. I ordered this Ninja Foodi XL today with the Black Friday deal. Can't wait to try this out and use this after I sous vide a steak.
I've watched 3 of these videos comparing the two and the original grill is better cooked in each case. If you're simply going to give it to the XL because it's bigger, then why bother doing a comparison? You know it's bigger without cooking a single thing. As shown in the roast chicken video, the original grill is deeper than the XL, which I'm guessing allows for better air circulation, even heat distribution, and more consistent browning. The temp probe is also consistently low on the XL in these videos. Considering it cooks worse, I don't see the size of the XL justifying the currently $50 price difference on Amazon.
If the prices were exactly the same, would you reconsider? Black Friday prices have brought the prices to identical. Smart features vs better cooking and baking options. I’m torn.
The way you roasted the potatoes (taking the grill pan out) would you do the same for the original foodi grill? I see the original has the roast option as well.
I was on the fence about purchasing a smokeless grill/air fryer but your videos made up my mind. Thank you. I am going to try all of your recipes. I do have a question; could you have roasted the potatoes in Ninja Foodi Grill instead of the XL Grill?
Kids got me the xl for my birthday ! And I am figuring out how to cook with it from all these videos . By the time I unpack it I should be top shelve chief , you recon. ???
I agree. The grill can do somethings and is better then the over but not as good as a normal grill or the stove for searing. I generally still sear my streaks with a cast iron on the stove, then I transfer to the foodi grill to finish.
I also like using a cast iron. Can you sear on the cast iron and finish in the Food? I am assuming that the probe would pick up that difference? Yes, nothing like a ribeye and, for me, medium rare all the way !
It doesn't make a big difference b coz you couldn't add another piece of steak! I prefer the original b coz it has much more depth for a medium roast chicken for example and it cooks the food more thorough
