- We sent the very special Andy Baraghani to the iconic Nom Wah Tea Parlor in Chinatown to learn all about dim sum and Cantonese cuisine. Joined by cookbook author and activist Grace Young, Andy tastes his way through Nom Wah's menu and then learns how to make some Chinese staples, including char siu bao (barbecue pork steamed buns), beef spare rib rice roll and pork & shrimp potstickers.
Grace partners with AAFE for the Safe With Sound campaign. Learn more here: www.aafe.org/safewithsound

The owner had the right amount of sass. Andy found his match I think lol
Oh Please, Andy is about as sassy as unseasoned boiled chicken.
@@afekasi79 💀💀💀
It s disgusting! Shame on you!
And shame on BA to sent his all day herself schmiering bearded girl to this cool man. They'll destroy his reputation.
@@yackfou2412 jesus
thanks!! 😂😂😂
The boss is giving Andy a light taste of Asian parenting.
THATS EXACTLY IT
"light taste" is a proper word😂
good to know that racism still exists at bon appetit
@@Irv350 uhhh....?
I think his parents already did that!
"I would've been done 10 minutes ago"
Owner is merciless.
"You wanna battle?"
No
"Just making sure."
🤣😈
😂😂😂
@@wilsontang175 Wait a minute....you're not him right?
@@kuteken6312 he is him yes
The owner of this restaurant needs to be a regular guest on Bon Appetit.
He was informative while keeping it entertaining
I agree! I say they should kick the bearded girl for a long time...
Definitelyyyy
sign me up!
Absolutely agree! Wilson Tang @dimsumnyc has great camera presence and lots of experience to share
i really think Andy has done his homework on the rules/culture about dim sum! He even poured tea for Grace Young!! This is one of the unspoken rules when having dimsum. You pour tea for someone you respect and elderly
Good observation!
@Ken Wong
Agree.
Andy definitely did his research for this; I almost expected him to say "Yum Cha".
the best part of this entire series is the chefs coming up with creative ways to say "you don't suck, Andy"
the chemistry in this video is amazing
Ikr!!
I really like how the owner is communicating with Andy. I think he may be a good friend of every single person in the whole world. God bless you the owner.
Grace Young is an icon in the Chinese cookbook world!!!
When you've watched a Chinese chef crank out dim sum like nothing and then try to make ONE yourself, it is a humbling experience.
I feel ya. I've made some Dim Sum before and it made me realize how much time and effort is needed.
but her saying dim sum means "touch heart" makes her credibility plummet for me...
@@300blackcats There’s no reason for her credibility to plummet. Dimsum is a Cantonese cuisine, and as such, dimsum is obviously a Cantonese term. Cantonese is a dialect of Chinese, and has its own variations in how words are spoken. So, yes, dim sum means “touch the heart” in Cantonese. But it’s more commonly referred to as Chinese, since it’s the umbrella term.
@@300blackcats its sound a bit corny indeed but it actually literally means that 😂
"American" Chinese don't mix it up
He said, "you're acting like a millennial right now" 😅🤣😅🤣
Haha when? I missed that!

@@Paolito0118 omg hahaha so good. Thanks!
Brilliant.
Grace Young is an absolute ICON.
Please one more video with this Andy/restraunt owner duo.
Nah. Girl.
As a 5th gen Chinese American and long time BA fan, this brought me so much joy! Andy and Wilson make an iconic duo.
You mean 'wanna be chinese'.
At some point you only will be a wanna be to both sides. 5th gen is way over the point the be original and deserves treated like a human.
You have to say your name over and over to register there is something wrong I think.
@@yackfou2412 bro what lol
@@alli7447 I m sorry for ‘not treated liked a human’. But the other things are right.
@@yackfou2412 do you even know what you’re talking about lol
@@yackfou2412 you are an awful person
"So.. You Wanna Battle Or Somethin'??!"
He's W/ It
Omg sorry but Andy and the owner of the shop have so much chemistry I need an adult
I love Andy and Grace but the owner of the restaurant is hilarious. I’d watch a full show of him if I could
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 lol
the lovely owner of the Nom Wah Tea Parlor sounds exactly like Ted Mosby
do you mean literally or figuratively?
I think they meant tonally - I kinda hear it lol
I don't really hear it.
@@solidsaladin121hehe- I literally mean literally
And Jay-z
You can tell the owner is a true New Yorker lol.
for sure
Wilson keepin Andy humble 🤣 Loved this!
This might be the best how to learn vid
the bar was low to begin with lol
They’re both flirty with each other. Love it hahaha
Glad this series is still around 🥺🙏
Gawd, I miss dimsum meals with a large group of close friends!
Soon grasshopper. Soon.
Hang in there
Not until I read your comment........☹. 😭
i've learned to make my own Chinese and Japanese foods during lock-down, still, dim sum is a different animal.
Loved this chef. I've seen other stories on this place and I would love to visit. Grace Young is the perfect guide.
I love the respectful and informative approach that they give to the cooking of foreign countries, that's the way it should be treated everywhere!
Such a sweet lady 💛
The current owner was really humbling Andy lololol
This was such an awesome episode. The habit of paying for the bill is so that you don’t “lose face” in front of other people. Sure, it’s hospitality but there’s a deep ingrained culture of the need to feel respected too - money talks in Chinese/canto culture.
Watching this video gave me so much nostalgia, especially the paying for the bill part
I sincerely hope Bon Appétit considers expanding the “How to” series, 16 minutes ain’t enough🤩🤩
The fight to pay the bill at the end! So true!
OMG Andy! She was lovely! The two of you should do more shows together!! I could watch Dim Sum videos for days!!!
That Chopin's Valse everytime Andy cooks is cracking me up. Great video.
Okay but waiting for andy videos and then getting it is some other kind of happiness!!!!
My cousin’s husband is friends with the owner. He came in when we there, super nice guy
wow ,the chef is cooking in a rolex! good for him !
This is a thing I never register.
At the end I should register.
It tells me strictly about the personality in front of me and his small ego. So I can make carefully a curve around this type of bad human.
Batman with jubilee bracelet 🙌🏻
canal st special.
We love + appreciate Ms Young !
Grace Young is my Wok Guru! She rocks!
Honestly the only physical fights I've been in have been for the bill. You can't. Let. Them. Win.
When the owner starts dancing 😂love this video 💕
"why do you stop talking to me, jeez man" 😂
OH my god i miss yum cha so so so so much :--( the art of dimsum is very underrated, thank you for covering this and trying it yourself Andy! :)
Thanks for showcasing a classic restaurant!
Grace was so informative! She’s awesome
Andy is shining in this episode. He should get to do a series❣️ I feel like he really brought it with his two guests🥰
Love that owner!!!
🥰🥰🥰
Delicious chaos- how profound! Hard to imagine dim sum for one.
Lol, I loved the chef. Made the mistake of watching this hungry.
I loved this video!! Love how Andy got razzed the entire time 😂 and dancing in the kitchen made this a 10!!! 🥰🥰🥰🍤🥟
My favorite thing to have at dim sum is sesame balls with red bean paste
Best episode in a while! I really enjoyed this!
I want a whole of series of just the owner and Andy!!! Omg the vibe
Amazing episode! loved watching everyone in it !
Thanks for this video Andy and BA! Dim sum is my favorite food!!❤️
Love me some Andy, his personality is so catchy and the food looked yum.
Andy is disgusting... sorry, but I don t get why BA has a bearded girl in their stuff
The owner of this restaurant should contact his lawyer. BA makes that all ppl will skip this place in future because he let this bearded girl (bearded shame) in
give the owner of that shop a show for reals I would watch it.
What a sublimely entertaining video. Excellent job all!
Lucky enough to say I've been to Nom Wah. Can't wait to go back!
Love Dim Sum! Everything looks so good!
This was so well done. Brought back so many childhood memories. U know they old school when u see a goji berry on top of the siu mai. All the pleats on the har gow was perfection
I miss Andy! Can we take a second to truly appreciate Wilson and his quick whit. I can't wait to get back to NY and go there.
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
We need more of these 🔥
Andy, we love you. Even if you're not great at classic Dim Sum.
Absolute favorite restaurant
i swore to god that i would never watch a bon appetite video again but i'm only making an expection because i've wanted to see someone cover cantonese food for years. i know no one cares but thank you
Would love to see more episodes of Andy covering Chinese food!
May not battle "now" but certainly going to "battle" later. Awesome.
Any ANDY VIDEO APPEARS…I CLICK , also his SMILE 🙂🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
I love Andy!!

Beautiful episode!
Wilson said, "You wanna battle?" to Andy and Andy was like, "No, no, no." 😆😍🤣😂
andy is so adorable.
Nom Wah Tea Parlor is incredible.
LOVE THIS CHANNEL
this was a great video. love to see BA getting (somewhat) back to normal.
"Delicious Chaos" is my new mantra
The owner history is awesome!! What a guy!
This was amazing
Andy is the best
Love CSB never could get the hang of making them by hand
Great recipe! looks yummy 😍😋😋😋👍
love it!!
"you wanna battle or something right now..?" LOL
This was so enjoable I wish we had restraint like that in michigan
I forgot how much I love dimsum
Let´s take a minute to appreciate how beautiful Andy is.
Yawn
Use more MSG. There's nothing to be irrationally afraid of.
Too much MSG fcks the taste up though. Similar to say putting too much salt, a little goes a long way.
@@thaddeustyc Yes, too much of everything does; that's what "too much" means - an amount that is excessive.
and Vietnamese fish sauce!
The owner is amazing! He needs to come back!
this was great
Andys face is blushing so hard!!
this makes me miss hong kong so much!! 🥰🥰
Ate there last month...was super delicious
glad to see fighting over the bill isn't primarily an asian thing... its an every culture thing! just goes to show how much we appreciate the company of our friends and how those memories are priceless.
Woah! The breath of the wok lady???
My fav dim sum place
I love y’all 💜💜💜
