The moral of this story: Doing your homework is very important, whether it's to pass your classes or to break out of a never-ending time loop that has gone on for nearly 600 years.
@@customarylover3857 Pretty sure someone got the math wrong, but according to my own: 2 weeks of activities = 14 days. Time loop repeated 10,000 times. 10,000 * 14 = 140,000 140,000 / 365 (days in a year) = 383,56
What most people missed is that the homework is just an excuse (or the medium). Kyon needs to find a way to break out of the loop and he found the perfect way in the form of homework. And by setting the date to next day, now Haruhi will have to look forward to it since she get to spend more time with Kyon and the others. It was hinted that she wanted to do more stuff together with them but they’ve done everything they could think for summer break. Well except the homework since Haruhi never had problems with it.
Yet Haruhi must have known Kyon was not done... consciously or not, the time loop is because of her growing feeling that he's the one for her. To stay having fun or to to step in and make him e do his homework? He decided for her. Remember that they are together in the future at University. - even if the author ended up with the Nagato-equivalent girl IRL.
@@stevetheduck1425 Yes, I was always under the impression the HW wasn't just a random thing he decided for them to do, but in fact was something she was picking up on subconsciously as him needing to accomplish to make HIS summer complete. For Haruhi summer HW is such a footnote it doesn't even feel like a proper activity; for normal people it's as important as fireworks and festivals (though not as enjoyable). Haruhi herself wasn't missing anything, it was Kyon who missed something, and Haruhi was picking up on it. It's true the point of no return is when she leaves the cafe, but it can't be a coincidence that the actual point where the timeline loops is right after he realizes he didn't - and can't - finish his homework. If it really was as simple as "make something up so she has a reason to look forward to tomorrow" I doubt the loops would've gone on for so long. Instead the point of focus for the group in fixing the loop was that Haruhi felt unfulfilled - if they did just anything she would still feel unfulfilled. The empty day was not the issue. It was the lack of activity. It was the feeling that they didn't do enough. The feeling that Haruhi herself only felt as a subconscious nagging, but that was born from Kyon's underlying attempts to ignore the HW he needed to do until it was too late.
It's also an incredibly interesting and neat choice because no one "wants" to go do homework, especially on summer vacation. The idea of repeating episodes was impactful but the ending felt underwhelming because nothing caused Kyon to act differently to break the loop. I thought a random encounter might have changed his views or Nagato might've said something, but nothing felt different on the last episode. I was disspointed after the watching the Endless 8, because after all the hype over eight episodes, the authors used an Ex-Machina excuse to end the loop. There are lots of interesting ways time loops have been used as plot points, such as Stein's; Gate, Deathloop, Groundhog Day, etc. that have conquering time loops as central plot points, however The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya feels like a lost opportunity by comparison. Instead, it gives us a "realistic" experience of a time loop from the perspective of Nagato. Admittedly, having the balls to pull that off is impressive. And effort was clearly put into re-animating, re-voicing, character design, etc. There is little narration, forcing the viewer into reflection. It leaves a mark that is more of a slow burn than the exciting crackle of guns Deathloop.

The manga has been completed and fully translated for about 10 years now actually. That being said going from the disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya to the manga is total whiplash that made me put off the manga for 4 years. Also the manga has a very "interesting" art style during the first few volumes... Oh and the manga does less Kyon monologues and has filler content too.
Well i do. And no, the reason why english dub is Fantastic because the reason is: 1. How did kyon supposed to say homework? And 2. At least i was not gonna to haruhi said: I wanna come over, too!
Well Kyon always remember about the homework and that dejavu sensation gave him an idea to do homework with Haruhi. How far Kyon takes a thousand loops to finally realize just a single idea. I feel bad for Nagato.
Koizumi presented that idea in multiple loops, but it wasn't until the Disapperance movie that he was forced to admit that he liked having Haruhi around. Not that he loved her (which he clearly does), but just that he LIKES having her in his life in some way. Kyon is a stubborn motherfucker, so he basically killed that idea on the spot during the Endless 8 and was even so annoyed by it that he pushed Koizumi's face in a bit.

She wanted to share the workload with friends...
Not all heroes wear capes
This scene proves that Kyon is the real God since hes the only one with free will.
I feel like kyou breakdown and the music on the background its like such breath of fresh air
Took Kyon long enough.
Some (not)lesbian from a visual novel game dated before the Haruhi series was even on print.
Surname's the same.
First name differs by one kana.
They didn't sue Tanigawa & now they're powerless because Haruhi became THE phenomenon!
Me: *crying
Friend: y u crying, it's not that sad
Me: It's because my suffering has ended
I can never see deja vu's the same
Pray for KyoAni
Yeah i enjoyed endless eight because of yuki ❤❤❤
"I wanna come over too!"
Kyon should've said
Nah bitch, you finish your homework already
I know it's a joke, but the whole point was for her not to leave.
Thats Traumatize me 😮😢😢😢😢
EGAD MAN THE HOMEWORD
This video should be named "Kyon breaks the endless 15,531 loops" 😂
NGL, I got 3 or 4 episodes in and then I skipped to number 8. 🤣
Thanks for making me sit through 2 and a half hours of the same exact shit for this punchline, KyoAni.
This moment almost makes me cry.
^
i appreciated ppl for still remember this goated anime
all i wish is that this series will get a sequal, i cant read the manga since alot of chapters have been lost and still being unfinished
Kyon is definitely a Time Lord.
kyon what the f, why did you say "homework" as an excuse instead of the "I love you" line?
well at least haruhi said "I wanna come over too"
Well i do. And no, the reason why english dub is Fantastic because the reason is:
I guess, Me too.
Everytime that of the time in case i was 7 because i was watched those episodes and i was saying.
People watched this for 8 weeks and hot disappointed... Here we are a year into quarantine doing the exact same routine everyday lol
Feels like an arrested development told ya so from the guy with one arm, like he comes out and is like “and that’s why you always do your homework”
8 EPISODES OF TORTURE FOR HOMEWORK???????!!!!!!!!?!!!?!??
HOMEWORK WILL SET YOU FREE
Imagine watching this while it was on air. Not knowing if the next episode will end the loop or if it will go on.
Me after I watching this
Its finally over💀
keep watching same episode8 times😂
When Haruhi acts like Konata
scariest eight episodes in anime ever.
02:39 Nagato: Kyon, you have no idea how much love for you is in my heart as of this moment, despite the fact that it can barely process it. I would rewrite reality itself to be with you if I could...In fact...
LMFAO Kyon saved the world here
Fucking hell I remember watching this shit waiting everyweek for new episode and feels confused and feels like I'm also trap in infinite loop. Until this last loop i felt relieved that John Smith breaks the loop and taste the freedom!
Please guys, don´t leave home so we can break this Endless Quarantine
I left it hundreds of times during quarantine. Felt good
Watching this specifically on Loop is a vibe
Cannot imagine if i finally finished school and the time reversed and back at when i was a preschooler
I must do all the homework again
