My brain just melted. Do you have any games you've made that I could do a recording of? You have a real talent for this and I'm super interested in what you have created. Also, how long have you been doing this for?
lol. The game I am currently working on is warhalla ( ua-cam.com/video/jx83FxDEhXQ/v-deo.html ) and I have a couple of other projects showcased on my channel like this one ( ua-cam.com/video/Ra0wjp26s4E/v-deo.html ) but not a pure horror game like this environment here. I started one once, but never finished :/ Oh and I have been doing this speed level design stuff for 5 months or so and gamedev in general since 3 years :)
Looks good! :) Maybe a few things (feedback!).. A little bit of fog, so the large room looks a bit better. Now it feels a bit empty even with all the objects in it. The music a bit more subtle, plus some wood floor crackling sounds. So you get the feeling in what kind of room you are. Plus the camera movement was a bit weird.. The preview of the level could be better, the level design itself is cool! :)
I actually thought of the fog when I was done rendering. I usually use fog in each and every one of my videos, but this time I just simply forgot to add it :) I totally agree on the other points as well. Appreciate the feedback :)
One other thing, use a dirt decal under patches of dirt geometry to make them seem less abrupt, parralax mapping also really helps in these situations, as it will add realistic depth, without butchering your render times.
The only thing I would have done differently is added custom meshes for the grass. It seems really unnatural to have random splotches of really light green growing out of carpet. Personally, I'll build about 2-3 models of highly detailed grass, and then add it in feasible locations as an animated mesh, rather than as a vegetation system. otherwise very nice work! props.
@ooParanoia I'd like a tutorial on how you go about creating an environment, why you put the lights you put and how you go about using the PostProcess Volume. Thanks! Keep up the great work
I might make one at some point. Until then I have a kind of tutorial written down here: www.therookies.co/tools-techniques/how-to-make-a-game-more-immersive/
There is one still on my request list :) It was actually the first time unreal crashed during one of these videos. It usually only crashes when I fk up some code :D
So good. How do you use such modular pieces and not experience color distortion on them after baking? When I use modular walls indoors, each piece renders differently.
I know this video is pretty old but maybe you can answer my question. I was doing some test maps very similar to this (using floor, wall, ceiling, etc pieces to put together). My problem is, I always ended up with really bad light leaks. You could see the seams in each piece that was snapped together. It made me abandon that method of level design, but its one I would prefer if I could get working correctly. Any ideas?
+Ian Sapp Look up Lightmap UVs and how to properly create them. You can also tweak your lighting, but proper lightmap UVs is the traditional way. Tweaking Lights until it works is rather quick and dirty
You should make a abandoned castle with the sky breaking apart or something. I linked an image for inspiration. :D sf.co.ua/14/08/wallpaper-2401568.jpg If you need assets I recommend using the Infinity Blade: Fire Lands, Elemental Demo, or Strategy Game models for fire, lava, ect. Also, Infinity Blade: Effects has some fire effects if you want. (EXTRA)Also, if you want a destroyed castle after a volcano, use Elemental Demo for the volcano and castle pieces and use Infinity Blade: Ice Lands for an ash looking particle effect(s). Good luck!
Hey Sharpy, If you've been on my channel you probably saw that I haven't been uploading any new episodes for a while now. It's because I got a new job and still try to finish the last semester of my studies and write my bachelor thesis. I guess you get the point here. I can't find the time to do another episode, but if I do, the next one will definitely be medieval themed. I have this one request by "Jacob G" that is still No.1 on my List :) For Tutorials I suggest you watch some tutorials on working with the unreal engine 4 editor in general, get some free asset packs from the internet and marketplace and watch some tutoials on color, composition and things like that and just practice :) Make a scene and be critical about it. I always ask myself what I really don't like about what I am looking at. And there will ALWAYS be something and then I try to find out how to make it better and look for the next thing to improve :) To get you started with some rough basics you can check out the article I wrote here: www.therookies.co/tools-techniques/how-to-make-a-game-more-immersive/
I really appreciate the fact that you spend time to answer my questions! I will do the things that you suggested me to. By the way, can you tell me where i can study this? Again thanks a lot
You're welcome. The studies I attend in Germany are called "Animation and Games" at the "Hochschule Darmstadt" in Germany. They allow you to pretty much choose anything within the cg industry that you want to do. We have people specializing in concept art, programming, rigging, tech art and pretty much all the jobs in the gaming and animation industry. There is a lot of studies like this all around the world, but the ones I attend for example only cost you around 500bucks for a year, whereas studies in the US cost up to 70k? or something crazy like that. If you want to get into studying this there is nothing better than starting as early as you can, because in the end it is all about experience and the studies are really just some "free time" for you to concentrate on gaining as much experience as possible :) If you are from europe or even germany or plan to study here I can give you some more specific information if you'd like.
Since I am from germany it was of course convient for me to study here, but we have certain programms for people from foreign countries. You can check out this link and the general website for more info ag.mediencampus.h-da.de/international-applicants/
Where do you get the assets for these? Also are they free. I really want to make awesome maps for my games but i am missinc assets. Also could you please make a tutorial on level designing?
how do you setup your cameras when you speed render, ive tried to get it to where i can see the layout as i work like you do but i never can figure it out, do you use 2 cameras or what??
I just place a camera in the scene and hit the little needle in the window to pin it when selected. after that you are free to select other assets and the preview remains
Dude, this is sick. If I sent you an e-mail would you like to have a chat on skype or something? I'm making a game and I'd love to chat with someone who knows his stuff!
Oh man... Thanks! its amazing!!
haha :D Hope you enjoyed the little bonus at the end of the results!
Hahaha Holy Shit... Fucking Ghost (? Thanks Bro!
that ending tho. nice work too!
haha thanks :D
ooParanoia U know that part where u loos 30 min of *hard work* is pretty sad & I know how that feels :(
First time this ever happened during one of these videos. I'll just have to save more frequently :)

We're are now scared of our own assets. I'll never be able to open the project again. Haha, Great work buddy!
My plan all along huehue >:D
you got me at the end there
lol :D nice
Great videos (pretty much watched all the speed builds at once), you ever thought about doing any underwater scenes or any thing very watery?
thanks :) the next one will be medieval themed although I still have to find some time to do it, but after that it's actually a good idea :)

You're welcome! You make awesome designs! Keep it up man! :D
Thanks :) I will try to step up the editing game a little in the future. I always tend to rush the editing after the level is done :D
Nice job man
Thanks.
this was an amazing inspiration to continue with my own game....I'm exhausted XDxdXdxd but thanks bro, LIKE
thanks and keep it up man!

+Toqwert33 I will try that on the next Episode :)
men it´s awesome
thanks :)

I came on and you're at 97 likes. I'm getting a few of my friends to like this to get to that 100
haha :D oh gawd no.
Oh and @Jacob G don't worry mate. I still got you on my list :) Your request will be next
No rush. :) This was an awesome video.
this is nice level
+Mocherad's Workshop Thanks man :)
@ooParanoia I'd like a tutorial on how you go about creating an environment, why you put the lights you put and how you go about using the PostProcess Volume. Thanks! Keep up the great work

Ah thanks ill take a look at that!
*WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!*
that 'aw fuck' moment i know all too well man. good job though. you should do a fantasy medieval castle or dark church like skyrim or the witcher :D
There is one still on my request list :) It was actually the first time unreal crashed during one of these videos. It usually only crashes when I fk up some code :D
ah yeah fair enough :) but programe crashing still feels bad man lol
So good. How do you use such modular pieces and not experience color distortion on them after baking? When I use modular walls indoors, each piece renders differently.
Or does that happen to you, too, but this level is so dark you don't notice?
make a production light build. The Preview light build does that
It even happens in production. I can get it manageable by adjusting the lightmass detail setting, but it's still there big time. :(
might be an issue with the lightmaps of the assets then? Production quality usually solves it for me
Awesome
Thats amazing
Thank you :)
wow dude u are pro
+BlueStahli DeepFocus thanks :)
The music made me think of a jumpscare any moment. 💀
Post processing makes me dizzy but other than that what a great build.
Yeah I was experementing with the fringe there :)
I want to play it!

I am not exactly sure what you mean? You mean the static camera in the bottom right corner?
Omg please do something from Game of Thrones, or something similar, that would be soooo cool
