TFL should do a new Suburban next loop. My 2021 base model gets 22-24 mpg and people never believe me when I tell them that. Also my 98 C5 auto got about 30 mpg with the performance rear end.
Owned a 02 Firebird, and regularly got 32mpg. The real secret is 3.08 gears in the rear. Keeps the revs nice and low for cruising. As soon as you jump up to 3.73 or 4.11, yes the car gets way faster but also the mpg drops like an anchor.
I owned an LS2 C6 that gave me 32.8 mpgs in the hwy w cruise control activated. Way better than any published tests. I sold it in spring after enjoying it for many thousands of miles, and 100% reliability. Great car!

The half a pound a day on this diet. The best part it fixes your insulin resistance... I stopped the diet 8 years ago. Haven't gained a single thing back And yes I eat like a normal person now. The reason we've all watched the 17-year-old kid, drink a milkshake and eat a bag of Cheetos and still have a six pack is because he didn't do it for 20 years Just like an alcoholic gets used to alcohol, people that eat a lot of carbohydrates to get used to insulin and you need more and more of it for your body to do the same thing Hence why so many people get type 2 diabetes. They destroy their insulin The keto diet fixes that, and that's how you lose weight, with your insulin repaired, now you can eat normal foods again and not be fat. Just like that 17-year-old kid
This was an informative video. I read many years ago that this generation of Corvette could achieve 30+ mpg. The C6 and C2s are the best looking Vettes Imo.
Yup the LT, then LS’s with the 6 speed got some amazing mpgs. The autos weren’t terrible, but being rear end ratio and transmission gear limited. I have a 2000 z28 with 3.23 gears stock, and before I modified it I got a solid 25 mpg on the highway. Oh and fyi it was rated at 23mpg. These LSX motors are incredibly fuel efficient given the right fuel and “mild” driving 😉. Now that same z28 with a “medium” sized cam, stalling torque converter, and 3.73 gears ( Full weight ) still gets 22-23 mpg. Plus I love to hear that amazing cammed full exhaust sound…
The LS engines r fuel efficient and bulletproof with so many over 200k miles with no issues. No direct injection or cylinder deactivation crap like the LT engines.
For reference: I get 22.6 mpg with a Mazda RX-8 on long german Autobahn trips. So 30 mpg for the Corvette is real impressing. The engine seems to have a low inner resistance and does not suffer under low load inefficiency.
Actually, the Corvette gets this mileage because the engine IS under load! The high gearing, which lowers the RPM of the engine keeps the torque up, negating the pumping losses by high manifold vacuum. Modern cars, like the Toyota Prius, get their good mileage on the freeway, because they maintain low manifold vacuum. They adjust RPM to maintain the power needed to maintain speed, while keeping the throttle mostly open. Using the high gearing offered by this transmission does a similar thing. You will find that your Mazda RX-8 runs much higher RPM.
@@vincentrobinette1507 Well, you can't directly compare RPM between the LS2 V8 engine and the Renesis 13B twin rotary. The mechanics are completely different.
@@JDCheng Around 2001, I had a '94 FD and a '97 C5 Corvette. Loved the looks and handling of the FD, but was the most unreliable car I've ever owned. Sold it and kept the Corvette...and 'by the way' it got great mpg like the one in this video.
I have gotten 30MPG average driving my 2008 across the US. I was wondering how well the C7 and C8 do with their cylinder deactivation and other technological advances.
I maintained a friend's corvette,C5 that he drove between Colorado Springs and Denver and was getting into the 30's with it, he would drive his duramax on the really snowy days
My wife and i decided to replace her 16 scion tc for an 08 vette with the ls3 and A6. We took it from ohio to south carolina and it it did 28.4 mpg doing mostly 70-80 on the highways with us and all of our stuff. The tc also got horrible fuel mileage for being a 4 cyl and she saved alot of money on insurance switching to the vette. So we did save money in the end going to a corvette 😂😀

They're low, light, and powerful. When driven in a relaxed fashion, they get great mileage. If you drive one with your foot in it, the mpg will be what most would expect. Even the 7 liter in the Zo6 can get killer mpg.
Best I've seen in my '06 six speed 'vert is 33 MPG at 80 MPH from Dallas to OK City. Double overdrive rules. That's why I put a Gear Venders over drive behind the 4L60 in my '69 Chevelle SS396 'vert.
I hit over 30 regularly in my C5, my best being 33.4. Have fun with it and it gets thirsty, cruise it down the freeway and it just sips the fuel. Being slippery in the wind has a lot to do with it.
@executiveinvestments Wrong. A C5 had a drag coefficient of 0.29 which is very low. So low in fact when it was introduced it was one of the most aero cars in production, and still ranks very high.
Back around 2007, the c6 z06 tied the 911 and F430 on the Top Gear track (look it up, top gear still has the c6 z06 episode on UA-cam). Imagine that, a FRONT ENGINED, $70,000 c6 z06 Corvette that gets 30 mpg highway tied the TRACK time of $200k to $300k euro exotics back then.😁 Now, of course, GM did not make it all leather interior (I criticized them for not making it optional back then), true, so it has plasticy dashboard, but that could be added afterward if you wanted and STILL be way cheaper in price than the 911 or f430 back then. 😨
I took an 8600 mile western road trip in a base 2011 C6 with the manual and the taller differential of the base Corvette. I averaged 25.1MPG covering interstates from Illinois to Arizona, up through Utah and Nevada to the Redwood Coast up through to the Olympic Peninsula and back home to Illinois. I had very high speeds on some rural areas and on the Bonneville Salt Flats. Great performance for a car with 430HP 6.2L V8.
Had a 4 banger with a six speed manual (rated at 28 mpg highway) get 33.4 on a 600 mile round trip, at 70 mph with the air on. I was blown away. 6th gear made all the difference.
Had an an 02 Z-28 6 speed. I saw 28 mpg highway and thought that was amazing especially since at that time, few cars had 320hp to go with it. 32 is amazing.
While weight is a factor in city driving, it makes almost no difference on the freeway. On the freeway, aerodynamics makes by far, the biggest difference. I'm not surprised you got that mileage on the freeway, owing to a transmission that reduced the RPM of the engine, and used a little more torque to hold speed, which reduces "pumping loss" in the throttled gasoline engine. A big engine turning slow has much better thermal efficiency, than a smaller engine with smaller cylinders, operating at higher RPM. That corvette gets better mileage than a lot of motorcycles, just because of the swept volume of the cylinders, and reduced RPM at cruise speed.
Those 3 custom holes In the front fascia were actually punctured in there by Matt Farah on another channel that was giving this car away also not for a front license plate but to help as an air intake!
I truly miss my C6 with the LS2... Yep, if I drove it gently, I could get 30 MPG on long freeway trips. That was a big "if" though :) My only complaint about the LS2 was the piston slap when it was cold.
I'm not surprised though ...I had a 1993 Camaro Z28 with a 5.7 LT1 and on any given day I was averaging about 30 mpg so yeah those engines are surprisingly efficient.
I believe it. Recently I needed a rental car to get from California to Nebraska and only thing they had available was a 2021 Mustang GT. I had no choice but to take it and cruising at 70 mph the whole way I averaged out at 36 mpg. I was blown away lol, and no I was not going based off my tripmeter I went off how many miles I was driving and how many gallons I used
I own a 93 LT1 Camaro, put a new 385 ci stroker, 13.5 to 1 comp. 625 hp. NA, tuned on 93, the milage has improved to 36 mpg. 6th gear average 75 mph. It gets better milage than my sister in laws Prius.
My dad has a 2004 le mans Vette. I drove it a few times probably 10-15 years ago and remember getting 20mpg cruising around town/highway without heavy accelerations. Older cars seemed to get better mpg with partial throttle than most of today's cars I've driven

Bought a 2006 about the same time as you purchased yours and they do get excellent gas mileage. Seeing upper 20s in mixed driving in a convertible with an automatic. My 2008 Mustang GT with a manual gets 2 mpg or more lower. All the reasons you mentioned plus the rear axle ratio account for this.

@@noneyabizz8337Not true. My 2013 Mustang 5.0 actually reads 0.5 to 1 mpg lower than what I do hand calculated at the pump. I don't usually monitor mpgs but when I do it's pretty close or 0.5 mpg optimistic at most.
My previous was a 2008 manual with the 3.55 ratio. I usually averaged 23-24 mpg on regular fuel and 28-29 mpg highway. The difference in mpgs is worth it cause I didn't buy something with power to get good gas mileage.
@@mogulme6190 Probably would cost more per tank to use an octane booster. Even the cheapest Walmart stuff is about $0.25 per gallon - and I'm not even sure what the end octane rating would be. For maximum efficiency, higher octane fuel allows the computer to really advance spark, and generate more power for the fuel used. Most engine control units make the mixture really rich if detonation is detected.
@@mogulme6190NO. If it calls for premium required you cannot do that. I believe Corvette requires it. I have a Coyote Mustang and it's never seen less than 91 despite it being able to run on 87. I wouldn't trust it or octane booster since I run it hard. I usually run 93 since it's tuned.
This is great! I both love and hate that more people are finding this out. Big V8s are very capable of getting good mpg. My old 94 cadillac with a 4.9 got about 27 mpg on the freeway going 65. Around here, there are roads that are still 55mph and 60 mph. The corvette does even better at those speeds. 34mpg indicated, 35mpg measured! I'd routinely get 30.5 MPG with my 2015 Mustang GT (6 speed manual but 3.73 rear end) back and forth between Columbus Ohio and Indianapolis Indiana - if I didn't drive like a maniac - I'm amazed I never got stopped for driving under the speed limit - it looked odd to most passing me....
I have a 2013 5.0 with 3.73 and manual and probably rebuilding the rear axle in the spring and will be changing to 3.31 ratio in preparation for the supercharger and build MT82 I'll be getting next. I typically see 25-26 mpg although I go above the speed limit. I'm curious to see how much the 3.31 makes along with the taller 6th the new trans will have. I'm going with a centrifugal and I hear highway mpgs usually improve by 2+ mpg. Will be nice to have 700 horsepower and 30+ mpg.
That is impressive 👏. I believe some vehicles powerplants are so under powered it causes them to be less fuel efficient. You've also got to drop the RPM's at highway speeds and I believe that lots of manufacturers fail to build this into the drive train.
Yup. They're light, they're slippery, and you basically idle down the highway, I got 26MPG average in my C5 and I don't drive nice. GM did really well on highway MPG in general. Love it... Sometimes the simple videos are some of the best... Then again, just Nathan and Brendan driving around is pretty damn entertaining... I can only imagine the outtakes for the video...
@6:15 completely accurate
Have done this with multiple vehicles, auto to manual, full size to compact, fuel injected to carburetor, 2.0L to 6.4L.
Don't complain about fuel prices if you're not maxed out on efficiency.
Sometimes up to 33% difference
Got 29.5 at 80 in my 99 C5 and 26 in my 98 WS6
Great car!
9:37 You keep referring to yourselves as big guys
If you want to change that I lost 95 lb with no exercise, getting Thanksgiving full at every meal.
Just do 20 carbs or less a day. That's it
Bacon, egg and cheese omelets for breakfast
Bacon double cheeseburger with no bun... Eat two of them if you're hungry
Dinner, steak and shrimp covered in clarified butter
Diet food!
The half a pound a day on this diet. The best part it fixes your insulin resistance... I stopped the diet 8 years ago. Haven't gained a single thing back
And yes I eat like a normal person now.
The reason we've all watched the 17-year-old kid, drink a milkshake and eat a bag of Cheetos and still have a six pack is because he didn't do it for 20 years
Just like an alcoholic gets used to alcohol, people that eat a lot of carbohydrates to get used to insulin and you need more and more of it for your body to do the same thing
Hence why so many people get type 2 diabetes. They destroy their insulin
The keto diet fixes that, and that's how you lose weight, with your insulin repaired, now you can eat normal foods again and not be fat. Just like that 17-year-old kid
I'm down 30 lbs from 2017. And I'm doping it without shameless solicitations, guilt and finger pointing, but thanks
Nathan love the T-shirt rip Lemmy I thought everybody knew Corvettes get good gas mileage if you don't drive like a maniac
This was an informative video. I read many years ago that this generation of Corvette could achieve 30+ mpg. The C6 and C2s are the best looking Vettes Imo.
I always look forward to the videos with Nathan and his son. 🍻 cheers.
lol!
And we're back to the LT series engines, at least, for now. And it's a shame the C8 doesn't offer a manual.
I have a full bolt 2006 Corvette C6 Z06 with a tune. I did a road trip from Vegas to Seattle and averaging 24-30 mpg hwy running premium.
17 Camaro SS. I regularly get 28-32 on highway jaunts if driven frugally. 460hp. 6spd. Love it.
Could this be considered a tow test with the amount of "ballast" added to the cabin?

The LS engines r fuel efficient and bulletproof with so many over 200k miles with no issues. No direct injection or cylinder deactivation crap like the LT engines.
Had the 2008 with the 6.2l and can confirm the amazing mpg you get from the Corvette ls3.
Having owned RX-7s in the past, I found the more pressing concern to be MPE (Miles Per Engine).
@@sssp3071 a friend of mine solved it by dropping an LS1 in his FD. 🤣
Eventually the cylinder deactivating engines (active fuel management) tend to have lifters fail and ruin the camshaft.
The c8 is a 3,800 pound car while this one is around 3100-3200 pounds so I’d say it would get the same because of the weight compensation
I maintained a friend's corvette,C5 that he drove between Colorado Springs and Denver and was getting into the 30's with it, he would drive his duramax on the really snowy days
My 01 C5 got 30+ too. 6sp manual. Aerodynamic body, good power at low rpms. Not screaming like a 4 banger.
I regularly receive on the Highway between 28 & 31mpg. But the vast majority of My driving as like most ppl who drive is City. I hit over 30 regularly in my C5, my best being 33.4. Have fun with it and it gets thirsty, cruise it down the freeway and it just sips the fuel. Being slippery in the wind has a lot to do with it.
A c5 ain’t slippery at all.
My C8 HTC Z51 gets 23 mpg in the city and 26 on the Hwy.
We bought a 2006 C6 in Texas and drove it back to Denver and averaged 31 mpg over 750 miles- with an automatic transmission!
Great job guys,, good sense of humor.
I got a c6 grandsport with a ls3, cam, bolt ons ect ect. Drove it 2 hours away, raced and drove it 2 hours home and averaged 26mpg
Premium is 93 and some stations 94 in Toronto, Canada.
91 is mid grade, 87 regular.
My 08 C-6 gets 27 mpg with a 430 hp engine. I've always been impressed by that. I've never driven it in 6th gear for very long; just 5th gear.
Those 3 custom holes In the front fascia were actually punctured in there by Matt Farah on another channel that was giving this car away also not for a front license plate but to help as an air intake!
That was interesting. Also maddening that this Vette gets better mpg than my Honda civic
I truly miss my C6 with the LS2... Yep, if I drove it gently, I could get 30 MPG on long freeway trips. That was a big "if" though :) My only complaint about the LS2 was the piston slap when it was cold.
Great video. Love the Lemmy shirt bro! 🤙😎
Even my '87 L98 C4 gets upwards of 25mpg when cruising on the highway. Everyone is always shocked when I tell them.
I’m guessing the C4’s with the L98 & the ZF 6spd (89-91) would do similar as in this test.
It’s amazing with all the modern active fuel management turbos etc we haven’t got much better than that.
The problem with modern 4 bangers is the gearing. Most of these cars run well over 3k rpm on the highway. That's not great for fuel mileage.
@@aaronbritt2025turbo 4s run at about 2k on the highway, not well over 3.

You may want to do the actual math on the Ford, they tend to be a little heavy on their calculations. You may be +2mpg down in real world vs the computer read out.
Traded it on a Coyote with manual and 3.73 and get about 20 mpg and around 26 mpg highway at 75 mph on premium. The difference in mpgs is worth it cause I didn't buy something with power to get good gas mileage.
Low end torque and the right gears really helps but using premium fuel is somewhat painful these days

Use an octane booster
@@mogulme6190that stuff dont work, unless youre using so much of it that you might aswell buy premium. Complete snake oil.
