Here lies yet another reason why Aegon is NOTHING like Joffrey. Aside from one being just a petulant and somewhat glutenous teenager who does actually have a heart, unlike the sociopathic sadist, Joffrey Baratheon/Lannister, Aegon actually had the balls to not only join his men in battle but also go up against a much bigger opponent, whereas Joffrey basically sh*t himself when Tyrion merely suggested he join his men at the Battle of the Blackwater.
Jeffrey was 13 years old tho, Aegon is 20 something😅

I read somewhere thst Aegon came to Rook's Rest not knowing that there'd be enemy dragon. He commanded Sunfyre to fly faster to save his men. He was (initially pleasantly) surprised to see Aemond so if Aemond hadn't arrived... he was ready to die for those few soldiers of his.
Well his mother just told him he is useless and shouldn't even try to be a good king. On the contrary these people were risking his life for him. A lot can be said about him, but he does really try to be good for people that showed him minimum of care. It's kinda similar situation to that with the small folk - they cheered for him once, so he was willing to basically bankrupt his kingdom for them. Makes me kinda wonder what if Rhaenyra played a role of a good, caring sister (at least for political reasons) in contrast to absent Alicent...
@@s1b3r11That conversation with Alicent was like a knife to the heart. It was so devoid of empathy and basic human decency. He was a man so down and at the ends of his wits. He humbled himself and asked for advice only to be shut down and was told to be a puppet. It was cruel.
There's also speculation that the shepherd in the first episode is The Shepherd. Imagine if Otto just allowed Aegon to make The Shepherd's flock whole. Dreamfyre, Shrykos, Morghul, Syrax, etc. wouldn't be paying the price.
During Aemond's High Valyrian speech, he mocked Aegon doing petitions so it was implied that accepting petitions from the lowborn was Aegon's idea. He built so much connection with the lowborn and the merchants. Merchant connections both foreign and local iys crucial in the context of war. Aegon was doing something there but he was mocked by his more authoritarian brother.
Nonsense the actor said that was for glory and to prove Alicent something. It was absolutely unnecessary and foolish.I don't know why people think that rulers doing stupid things camouflaged in " bravery" is prove that they are suitable for ruling.A stable ruler knows when to go to fight and when to shut up and listen.
@user-ju8jb7tk5x yeah the greens don't have any of those anymore pretty much. Its sad that Aegon is the best they have.
Hahahahha
Aegon's screams at 2:28 and 3:15 were so heartbreaking and raw. Tom is such a talented actor for making me feel so much sympathy for such a flawed character
I read the leaks before I watched the episode. When we got to the part Aemond's going to betray Aegon, I was like here we go. Aemond's going to do it, don't feel, don't feel. When Aegon said the "Thank the, gods" I was caught off guard and I wanted to cry. He was really blindsided. Despite their differences, he blindly trusted his brother and backed him up at court where Aemond is shunned for kinslaying. That was so cold blooded.
Aegon did not know that there was going to be a dragon and when he saw that his army was burning, he went to help it.
im team black btw
Aegon does actually try to be good for people that were good for him. Ordinary people cheered for him once so he was ready to bankrupt his kingdom for them. His army fought for him, so he was willing to protect them against a much larger dragon too.
@@s1b3r11shame he can’t be bothered to save his bastards from the fighting pits.
@@Calikola shame you can't be bothered to keep in touch with what the writers of your favourite show actually explicitly stated in interviews. They said he doesn't know about the bastards or children fighting pits. So go cry to them.

@@s1b3r11shame you’re still excusing going to watch children off each other for entertainment
Such a layered character, he's been the MVP of this season. They made him seem pretty one-note last season.. to see him actually want and try to be a good king first with the petitions, then mourning over a son he truly loved, and now brave(and stupid) enough to lead a charge into battle against a much larger dragon... I love how nuanced they've made him. It makes you go "wow he may have been an alright person if Viserys had put some proper care into his upbringing". He never learned how to use his desire to do good in positive ways and succumbed to his insecurities and the worst aspects of his character. But it always seemed pretty clear that Viserys did not care much for him or spend much time and thought on him after deciding to make Rhaenyra heir
Viserys wanted a son and when he got one (actually 3) he doesn’t want him. 🤷♀️
It's not really just Viserys... Alicent's been emotionally abusive to him especially in this episode. He was a young boy so down and was reduced to crying. He humbled himself and asked for advice. She kicked a person already so down with that "do nothing" speech.
What? are we forgetting he's a serial rapist who sent his bastards to fight in children gladiatorial deathmatches? lol he's not a wayward son who succumbed to his character flaws, he's an irredeemable monster by any standards.
Viserys didn’t see his kids he had with Alicent as true Targaryens like Rhaenyra and Daemon just kids he had out of duty cause kings are expected to have lots of children to continue the family dynasty it’s another reason why he neglected Aegon and his other kids.

Sunfyre is like a canary. Not suited to fight. He has such beautiful voice. He is not just beautiful on the outside
there is a video about valyrian dragons here in youtube that theorized that valyrians breed dragons for different purposes. fast growing and large dragons are breed for war and massive transportation because of their size like Balerion and drogon. smaller but fast and agile dragons are breed for dragon racing tournament and scouting like meleys, syrax and moondancer. and then there are those who are breed to be a show dragon like sunfyre breed to look as pretty as possible for valyrian dragon pageants.

People want to compare Aemond and Daemon, but I think this scene really highlights the difference between the two. Daemon had a very complicated relationship with Viserys, but ultimately cared for and loved his brother. Aemond could have saved Aegon here, Vhagar clearly would have taken out a distracted Meleys, but instead literally opened fire on him and put his brother's life in danger. There is no love between Aemond and Aegon, and I think this ultimately stems from Aemond and Aegon being born straight away into the line of succession, whereas Daemon and Viserys had time to form a true brotherly bond before Viserys was named the heir at the great council. Aemond is what everyone claims Daemon is, a person that cares only for themselves.
nd I think this ultimately stems from Aemond and Aegon
I think it has more to do with Aemond being picked on by his brother and counsins and made to feel like the inferior of the group. Then he lost his eye when that bullying turned physical. He's clever and cruel, I'm not sure if he's ambitious though, he didn't ultimately finish off his brother and take the crown.
Yeah, for a cunning and strategic person qs Aemond, he fucked up here, he could have killed Rhaenys, but instead chose to hurt his brother

You just witnessed a nuclear exchange. That's why dragons were feared
this is nowhere near a "nuclear exchange." A nuclear exhange implies both sides got their nukes off, that kind of devastation would leave nothing but rubble and dead bodies in the epicenter and blast radii for as far as the eye could see and then some. Is this fearsome for its time and setting? yes. AS fearsome as a nuclear exchange? nowhere near.
''When dragons fight, everyone burns''
Ehy, everybody shit on Cole, but it seems he likes his adoptive boys at least 😂
Kingmaker 👑. The best knight of his time.
I think Cole only genuinely cares about anyone insofar as they indulge his desire for revenge on Rhaenyra. He clearly went out of his way to help poison the Black, and Green children into hating each other even though that benefits none of them in the long run, and pretty much as soon as Allicent is no longer on board with being against Rhaenyra 100% consequences be damned, suddenly Cole isn't her sycophant anymore (even though from his perspective he still owes her his life), and he's openly arguing with her on the council instead
If Cole loved them would he really groom them into starting this war? Would he risk them burning to a crisp? They’re his way to gain power over dragons and try and checkmate Rhaenyra.

Heartbreaking that Aegon was so relieved to see his brother and Vhagar coming to relieve himself and Sunfyre, only to be betrayed and for what, teasing his brother who he loved and admired regardless. I know Aemond wanted the crown, but I lost respect for him for that betrayal.
If Aemond wanted the crown so much he should’ve just let his brother leave back when he tried to.
Yeah it's like a knife being twisted. I bet Aegon would've preferred dying by Meleys than be betrayed by his brother like that.
This betrayal doesn't make any sense and proof of that is that GGRM didn't write it in F&B (and before someone tells me about the "unreliability" and Green propaganda - it's hard to fake a historical event such as a dragon battle witnessed by thousands of people, so yeah, there's a great chance that Aemond actually didn't do it in F&B). He had numerous chances to get ride of Aegon if he wanted to, but even if had aspirations to become king, he first had to defeat the Blacks and taking down one of the few dragons that your side has in the middle of the war is too stupid for someone like Aemond

Aegon's character and actions are a blurry example of what many struggle with today: feeling powerless and useless to the point where you'd rather be a part of the problem than just sit out and let others resolve it. He needed more guidance in his younger years, for sure, but action-less he was not. His drinking is most likely due to boredom or to suppress his feelings, but I'll give it to him: When the time came to face a bigger and more experienced dragon/rider, he did NOT back down. Props.

Good ole Ramin
He’s done it again with making amazing music!
This battle felt like a little poodle going up against a pit bull, going up against a rottweiler. Poor Sunfyre although beautiful, was not meant to be a war dragon.
Pit bull would destroy a rottweiler
Have you seen a standard poodle? They’re not to be trifled with. But I see your point. I’d say that Sunfyre at the time was ill equipped to fight other dragons - he could strafe armies just fine.
Sunfyre not meant to be a war dragon? He is described as heavy, huge and formidable despite its young age in the books and it’s probably not even 20 yet. Meleys is probably 60ish yet Sunfyre was able to go survive the encounter. In the books all three dragons crash to the ground with Vhagar coming out unscathed, Meleys dying and the young Sunfyre with half its wing torn off and wounds from its neck from Meleys. Sunfyre is a unit and if it had reached an older age it would probably be one of the larger Targaryen dragons.

We had only a couple of minutes of Sunfyre, the symbol of the Greens and labelled the most beautiful dragon Westeros has ever seen, before he got maimed. That is so depressing. Meanwhile Syrax gets plenty of attention while being the laziest and most useless dragon in the book. S1E9 should have been Sunfyre's and Dreamfyre's.

I feel so bad for Sunfyre. He's not meant for war, but he's so loyal to Aegon.
I just wish Rhaenys would have taken Daemon up on that offer of killing Vhagar together with Caraxes and Meleys. This time the roles were reversed with her fighting Sunfyre and Vhagar. 😭 She went out like a Queen! ❤

Aegon is such an interesting character since he’s grown up in the show: he gave them plenty of chances to give the crown to someone who’d know what they were doing but no “it had to be him” and so now that he’s king what does he do… he tries to be a fairytale king cuz he doesn’t know the complexities of being a king so he tries to help out one farmer when he comes in seek of aid, he rides a dragon into battle to conquer his enemies like a true hero king should, he goes drinking and is a merry presence to all, and he seeks to catch all evil doers no matter the cost so he hangs ppl from his walls as punishment… except the ratcatcher that killed his son was the only other accomplice in the crime, plenty of kings don’t fight their own battles and when they do they know as much as they can about the battle before they enter instead of rushing in, and trying to help one house survive tough times while the others struggle isn’t a great solution so when you put it all together aegon seems to just be acting how he thinks kings act because he likely never studied how his dad ruled let alone learn how other greater kings ruled, never learn Valyrian so he made his dragon learn another language instead, he can’t strategize a battle to save his life literally and he lacks a a decent amount of impulse control… he desired to do good but lacked ambition to train himself to be better or lacked the knowledge on how to get better so that he could do better or likely a bit of both cuz he simply was always able to eat, drink, sleep, bed whenever he wanted with no repercussions.
Hearing the absolute fear in every footman that sees the dragon is so real. like watching a nuke slowly descend to detonation altitude
Oh, yes. There they stand, calmly filling each other's bodies with war arrows, sword blades and maces, and then, suddenly...
DRAAAAAGON!
All those problems could be avoided if someone actually hugged this guy and told him he's enough :')
I find it sad that he didn't want the crown, but his coronation was the very first time in his life someone accepted him and cheered at him.
I liked the detail of Sunfyre’s blood scalding the soldiers.
If Aegon was older and mature he would've been actually a real good king
Not only that, if Otto wasn't trying to seize Aegon's power they could've ruled well together

Long.....live....the king.
Aegon is that kitten that sees a tiger in the mirror.
Most cats and humans are like that 😂😂
ngl this alone makes me respect and like aegon, he grew rotton and spoiled, never had true support from his father or mother, they made him king, and he was not ready for it, nor did he want it, but when he became King, he has genuinely tried to be a good one, here he is tired of him being figure head and genuinely wants to be worth something, he goes into battle which he has no experience of, to support his men and fight a much bigger stronger opponent, props to him and his big balls!
Sunfyre was probably so confused on why Meleys is attacking him
These scenes do make me wonder how intelligent the Dragons are and how they feel about attacking one another. Especially when the smaller ones are being commanded to attack the larger ones.
I feel so bad for Sunfyre!!! I cried almost just as hard for him as I did for Rhaenys and Meleys
Sunfyre after seeing Vhaegar:: "Yo my liege I didnt sign up for this s#it man!!"
Poor sunfyre 😭
I felt bad for aegon. Keeps making me think back to when he was in his bed and told his mother “I didn’t want any of this” and just accepted his life the way it was as a lord. He really didn’t want any of this but got mixed up into it on the wrong side

More like Meleys being one of the fastest dragons who can easily dodge dragon fire. No wonder Vhagar had to ambush her, Vhagar could not at all outpace or outfly Meleys in a fight.
god, seeing sunfyre like this broke my heart in all honesty, a casualty among many in a senseless war that ended in no one winning
The Dragons are the true victims of the show (apart from the thousands of peasants) they just ride in to battle against their kind with a blind faith on their riders, which most of the time don't really give more of a shit about them than any other tool
i think all riders love their dragons, we didnt see targ that doesnt care rly
@@sillylittlesheepjax6009 Yeah they do care and I'm sure the books tell a more deep connection, but in the show the only time you see a rider taking care of his dragon is the first scene and one with daemon. The rest are always encounters when they need to fight smth, so basically they just show us the dragons being parked there waiting for battle, smth that I would like to be more detailed in a series called House of the Dragon yk
@@CastleBravo.S Agreed. They frankly did poor job on that.
Dragons are kind of assholes ngl. They'll kill anything for a laugh and have virtually no loyalty past their rider, not even to people or other dragons they grew up with.
I see a lot of people scoffing at Aegon's character, when in reality, it takes some courage to admit that this guy represents almost all the majority of young people (myself included) who currently watch the show.
Aegon never wanted to be part of his family's traditions, because he simply saw himself as the black sheep of the family. He had different aspirations and dreams, and he wanted to try to get out of it. But his 'beloved' mother Alicent and his grandfather Otto not only prevented Aegon from being free, they almost locked him up in the castle.
One may think there are people starving while this boy is ordered to be King. Well, being a monarch means being the puppet of those around you and taking the hardest of blows.
After Helaena, Aegon was the most susceptible and sensitive son, but due to the amount of toxic people around him, he tried to show himself as something he was not. His beautiful platinum blond hair, always cut in a bad way, his poorly spoken Old Valyrian, his eagerness to please the labourers who came to him for help when he was already sitting on the Iron Throne... his most tragic loss, his little son Jaehaerys.
As well as being commanded to have sex with his little sister to maintain Targaryen blood purity, when they could have profited greatly by marrying him and his siblings into other houses to ensure their power.
If this guy were part of another TV show or movie, he'd be a hippy.
By the way, I'm talking about the Aegon played by Tom Glynn-Carney (he's a talented actor), not the one in the book.
Aegon was iconic.

Aegon was so stupid facing Meleys and Rhaenys. It was completely obvious that was gonna happen. Meleys was older and had experience mean while Sunfyre had never been in wars
Neither has Meleys, Meleys was never ridden to war, Alyssa rode Meleys and never used it for war, and neither did Rhaenys, if you think patrolling the gullet counts as war then you are wrong.
As it is, Sunfyre has the same experience as Meleys, none, it’s merely the fact that Meleys is larger and older that gives the edge, if she was the same size as Sunfyre it could easily have gone in Sunfyre’s favour.
@@hubertdenise3100meleys literally drove vhagar to the ground while being 10x smaller, sunfyre didn’t have a chance either way lmao
