    so you really only need a flat head to compress the pistons

  • @kuengyal23
    @kuengyal23 4 місяці тому

    Does it not ruin the rotors while
    Compressing or can we use a scan tool to put the car on brake service mode ?

    • @YOUCANIC
      @YOUCANIC  4 місяці тому +1

      While compressing the brake caliper piston, you don't typically ruin the rotors unless done incorrectly. However, using a scan tool to put the car in brake service mode can indeed aid in the process. For more info, check out our Full System Scanner on www.youcanic.com/scanner. For any further questions, you can use our platform to ask car-related queries at www.youcanic.com. We aim to be your reliable source for all things automotive.

    Great video. I always like to use steel wool on the pins to make sure they are nice in clean. They eventually will swell from all the chemicals they use in the winters here on east coast and sometimes become impossible to remove. Clean that baby though...all that dirt coming off during your video made me cringe a little.

    how come every mechanic shops tells me i need to replace the rotors with my brake pads on this car? is it okay to just change the pads with out the rotors? are they lying when they say its really bad for the car if i dont replace the rotors with new brake pads?

    • @YOUCANIC
      @YOUCANIC  Рік тому +5

      Replacing the rotors is not always mandatory, and there are situations where they can be left in place. For example, if the rotors are still in good condition, meaning they haven't developed any grooves, cracks or warping that could cause issues with braking, they may not need to be replaced.
      One reason why it is recommended to replace the rotors when replacing brake pads is that the new pads will be smooth and flat, while the old rotors may have developed a slight lip or edge where the old brake pads were wearing down. This lip can cause noise and uneven braking performance, and can also accelerate wear on the new brake pads.

      @@JamesColeman12 His comment is completely accurate - the only reason you need to replace rotors is due to the above reasons or if they're below the minimum thickness.

      Same. Dealer automatically quoted me new rotors. I have less than 45K miles with no indication of rotor issues.
