I remember the unliked auction houses. I remember going to Darnassus and being surprised how little items were on there compared to Stormwind.
I knew I wasn't crazy! Been seeing a few people mentioning it so far
@@madseasonshow I remember it aswell, in TBC and WOTLK didnt play in vanilla but im 100% sure it was like that in TBC + WOTLK.
@@madseasonshow I definitely recall it, but don't recall if it was part of vanilla or TBC.
It was not like this in TBC or Wrath.
I remember this, thunderbluff auctionhouse was trash.
Please never ever change your intro music. For some reason it brings me back 12 years and feel nostalgic. Not only that but your whole channel is amazing. You have an amazing voice to.
I remember separate auction houses too but I don't think I ever confirmed it for myself just heard everyone say it
Separate auction houses were in vanilla at the beginning, indeed!
4:52 It's indeed very good thing
Improved secs FTW, because every sec matters.
haha
This month's poll winner! I will try to do these once a month from now if I can.
Yeeeet
What about the Auction House in Booty Bay ? It was for both Factions, if i remember correctly. But i do not know, when they implemented it. Cheers
You have an great channel man keep up the great work!
Is there a place to check the talent trees online?
@@dermafga yeah that one and the one in tanaris
I remember hearing about plainsrunning in 2005 and the long-standing myth about it at the time was that Tauren players in beta would get on all four legs like Worgen and run around.
Pretty amusing mental image.
There was also the Neutral Auction House in Tanaris, where both factions could post/bid. That did make it into the game for a good while.
booty bay aswell. the goblin towns also have banks, its pretty neat anyway as gobil towns are far away from main citites, winterspring, tanaris, bb.
The so-called Blackwater Auction House was a linked auction house system for the four goblin cities: Gadgetzan, Everlook, Ratchet, and Booty Bay. I don't know when it was implemented, or if it also started off unlinked, but during vanilla, it was the only way for Alliance and Horde characters to trade, and it was a great way to unload your fancy greens and trade goods when you're far from your capital cities. (Just remember that the deposit fee and the market cut were much worse!) At some point many years later, the Blackwater Auction House got merged into the faction auction houses, and then into the unified auction house we have today.
Makes me wish that those goblin towns were full-fledged cities in their own right. Also makes me wish goblin towns introduced in later expansions, like Area 52, were new factions of the Steamwheedle Cartel and just as interesting and involved as the four goblin factions of vanilla.
you know MadSeasonShow your vids about the old world of warcraft make my day. So many great momories and things a I didn't even know. you are a great youtuber!
6:38. My man with the ff9 main theme.
Patch History videos are the best! I spend a lot of time on reading the notes, but hearing it with actual video content can't beat that. Keep it up man!
Thanks for watching - I try my best to make it more than just reading through the notes. I'm glad I'm hitting the mark!
Haha, the rogue bit cracked me up. Awesome vid buddy. Keep up the good work.
One more thing about the rested experience system - I heard that back then, tired/exhausted xp was removed and replaced with normal xp just as a psychological measure. Players don't like to be punished for playing the game, so they still got the same amout of xp, but it was framed differently.
So Mage and Warrior talents started being worked on first, not surprising.
I LOVE the format of these videos man. Awesome stuff!
4:53 lots of improvement to sex? What?
Secs xD
Aka "protection"
@@Ayayron_e3 If you know what I mean
@@Tim.Krs227 Still, what are "secs"?
@@naota3k "seconds", it's abbreviated to "secs" in the description of the abilities shown on the screen.
Absolutely loving this series. I'd say my favorite is tied between your history videos (including the memories series) and the arsenal series.
I love the nintendo music playing in the background :3 Gr8 series by the way, loving it so far.
This is so informative... would really love an ongoing series :)
I really enjoy this series. It's great background for the upcoming Classic, and I hope you will consider continuing processing patch notes up to whatever version we'll end up with.
Sure we can read the patch notes, but it's so much added value to hear someone like you detailing interesting stuff, with your long history of the game and in-depth knowledge. :)
Loving these videos. Kinda suprised that darned rogue didn't come by and sap you during your outro. (Would make a perfect running gag to these vids imho.) Darn rogues! Lol
Love your content man
Just wanted to let u know that i really enjoy all of ur videos. U actually made me return to this great great game which is consuming all my free time again ;D
Keep up the good work greetz from germany
I love the cover of the mario 64 castle music in the beginning! Thanks madseason for yet another awesome video!
These are fantastic videos. Keep it up - love the series.
Great stuff! Really brings me back!
When I watch youtube on my ipad in bed before going to sleep, your voice is making me sleepy and relaxed. Subscribed!
I am enjoying this, I'm glad you made it. I didn't know all of that back then. I didn't start playing til some time after BC came out
Love these blasts from the past and seeing how the game design started out. It was a learning process for everyone, clearly.
Your videos are the tops, well done keep them coming.
I remember that linked nonsense xD if you visit tge forum there is a thread on battlenet about things people ask for the upcoming legacy realms and the auction house unliked system is discussed in depth there, great video as always man you bring lots of nostalgia to hour work
Always *quality* content here 👍
Hey mate. Saying g’day from Australia. Something I want to say real quick.
I’ve been dealing with depression for a while now and on my bad days these videos always give me an escape to something familiar.
The way you discribe things, and the music and effort you put into your videos offer me a time to switch off and relax and remember some of my fondest memories from back in the day.
These videos low-key keep me going on some of my hardest days. A massive thank you for the effort you put into producing these and sharing some of your memories. Please keep it up, it means a fair bit to me.
Peace :)
Another depressed Aussie here in agreement with you
Great series! Thanks a lot for such videos
Love your content man, keep up the amazing work
I appreciate it!
Thanks for this. I played that version and brings back fun memories!
If I recall correctly shaman originally also used bucklers, but were upgraded to shields when they combined bucklers and shields removing them from rogues and hunters. Some of the quest rewards for shields at release still reflected notably lower defense for their level as a throwback to having been bucklers originally.
Why are your videos so entertaining, with the music, the editing, and your voice. Perfect
Amazing content mate love you!
its a great series! please keep it up
When you started talking about AH, the split AH poped right into my head! So I suppose for some time this was live in vanilla
Awesome stuff madseason :)
Keep up the awesome videos MadSeasonShow! You're my favorite WoW content creator.
Thanks for watching dude - that warms the heart I'll tell you hwat.
@@madseasonshow thats gay but i also feel the same so im gay too
That was a real thing back in vanilla in the early game for the Auction house. It was the same for the booty bay and tanaris auction houses as well.
Dear madseason show. What i sure remember in the early days, there used to be a single AH per faction. IF for alliance and Org. For horde.
Love your videos. You are by far my favourite streamer
Love this series, awesome :)
I'm excited that a GM item video is even possible down the road! Used to love testing those bad boys out on a throwaway emu server.
12:40 Oh man, the Zelda music instantly changed my mood to warm and fuzzy on the inside.
Great video Mad! These patch review vids are my favorite! What's your opinion on all of the layoffs at Blizzard yesterday?
wow this video is pretty cool. thanks for making it. :)
Jesus christ. I barely get time to skim-read the title of your freshest video before the tape is already rolling on my screen and that goosebumps-inducing intro hits me. I'm left with a mess in my underwear but I am relaxed, and happy.
God bless this channel.
Oh my god i remember that Tauren Swifthoof character always being dead on the roads and i never knew why she was in the game since i never saw any quests for her. Nice learning something new every video :D
OMG I was going to say the same damn thing about an auction house for each city. I KNOW this was the case. I remember it and I was surprised when you said they took it out before release. MANDELA EFFECT!?
Another great video, as always - thanks MadSeason!
Just a personal wish imma throw out there: I'd love if you made a 'Classic/Vanilla' video where you go over the looks and animations of each race and both genders, and maybe throw in some end gear for each spec! This would mean a lot to me since I'll have just one character and spend so many hours with it, and no one has made a video like this.
But if you never read this comment I'll love you and your content as always, have a good one!
this series is excellent!
i am enjoying this series so far
love your videos bro
It’s so interesting to see how the game evolved from its earliest stages to launch. I wonder if they knew how big it would get
You make by far the best vids on ytube.. im a huge fan... respekt from denmark:-)
6:39 A Place To Call Home!!! I love this theme!
FF9 best game lol
Likin' the Legend of Zelda music in the background. :)
I also distinctly remember there being unlinked auction houses in all major cities, because at some point in the middle of vanilla, I remember reading patch notes for linked, unified auction houses in all major cities. I even want to say that an old vanilla WoW podcast, Taverncast, talked about this in one of their earliest episodes.
i miss your , Wow history series? why'd u stop on tbc , i would be glad to see you come back to it with wotlk
Love this content
The fact that you included a Legend of Zelda song in the background solidified my decision to subscribe and follow you. Absolutely beautiful content, as usual.
As always, a pleasure MadSeason.
See you next time.
Best Patch
You wish. 8.1 all the way!
Love watching these old videos
Thanks, I like this series (y).
thx for making WoW Videos.
10:32 thats the music from one of my favorite game "Risk of Rain" :D
I aslo remember the unlinked AH's. I recall travelling between Ogrimmar and Undercity and they were vastly different
I remember unlinked AHs as well. A patch or lag stopped it from working as intended . They hot fixed it during maintenance so no patch notes on it. Hot fixes at that time were only internally documented.
Unlinked auction houses is how Ironforge became the main hub were everyone hung out. It was the most central place. And Darnasus AH became the place were you could instantly trade things to different characters. I remember a friend telling me he would troll the AH in Darnasus to try and nab something for 30 copper that someone was trying to give to another toon on the same account. He had some pretty amazing gear lol
Great vid as always, Mad. See ya in Azeroth
6:40 "A place to return someday" - Final Fantasy IX. Beautiful song.
Maybe you just travelled from Stormwind/Ironforge to BB for the neutral AH?
I most definitely did that because people tended to post undervalued items on the (much less viewed) neutral AH.
I remember getting a Titans flask for 2g on there (probably because someone mistook it for a Limited invulnerability potion with the same icon)
I feel so heartbroken when I watch these video's...
Was a player since the closed US beta until december'18.
:(
Same but Open Beta for me and still playing :)
there was also an auction house for horde and alliance in gadgetzan
^This. There was a neutral AH in vanilla.
Is that not still there? Haven't played since Cataclysm, but also haven't used that AH since BC in 2007.
Also in Booty Bay
There was a huge tax for posting items there though. Damn greedy goblins.
They should bring this back i wouldn't mind it
I remember the stranglethorn auction house from the goblin. I also think it could be used by horde and alliance.
I remember Samantha swifthoof! I knew there was a roaming Tauren npc. She was like lvl 40
I thought she wandered there to get Dishonorable kills. In Desolace also was "Champion of the Horde" with bear Misha.
Vladimir Olegovich that was rexxar he was level 60 elite
@@vladimirseven777 Yeah Rexxar and his bear Misha are part of the hunter Order Hall in Legion :P
@@nicksalvatore5717 Yes, I know, but he had orc model as I remember.
For a short time there was a bug that would cause her to attack warlock pets (and maybe hunter pets?) causing my 35'sh lock to get flagged for pvp at some of the worst times. Ah good times :)
Paused at 2:12 - I was confused when you said that they removed separate auction houses before full release because I too remember that they were separated for quite some time. I started playing in October of 2005 (EU). I remember being so happy to be playing a mage at that time and all of my friends were happy too because of the portals. (Having teleport to towns was actually the main reason I chose mage class as my main - I had a hunch traveling would take up a lot of playing time :) ).
One note about the Eternal Quintessence that you get at Revered with Hydraxian Waterlords: They didn't actually implement it until Patch 1.11.0 (the Naxx patch). So all through BWL and AQ progression you'd still have to go out to Azshara for the normal consumable Aqual Quintessence every week.
I love your videos sooo much man.
Best WoW tuber along with Nixxiom, Pyromancer , Hirumaredx.
The content you provide brings back so many great memories. Never stop Madseason!
How do you get such smooth scrolling with your videos? I'm trying to get a similar type of scroll in some of my videos, but when I'm recording myself playing the game for my video footage the movement is choppy. Not because of GPU limitations, but because the mouse movement is choppy. Is there a setting I'm not aware of? This is my favorite series by the way. Keep going with these. They're awesome.
Auction house < Bazaar ... Shocked you didn't bring that up haha
Ah that sap instance reminds me of when I was playing vanilla back then, one of my friend dedicated his whole free time just to level an ally night elf rogue in my server and following me around sapping me for pure troll fun.
Good ol’ days
You could make good money trading between SW/IF to Darn, there were quest items and materials needed for that zone. However most people traded in SW, you could actually be a traveling merchant moving items between the city’s.
At release of Vanilla, Auction Houses were unlinked :)
I remember on my warlock, I was buying shadow spell dmg / spell dmg pots for bgs between Org and TB!
i also remember traveling between cities checking the AH for different items, i was also 6 or 7 during vanilla so i cant remember if the AH's actually had different items, but i do remember checking the org AH then going over to TB to check things
Never played WoW but i have seen many of these abilities and elements in Murloc. WoW looked very fun back then, maybe i will give it a try sometime.
I remember the unlinked AH too! Darnassus had a very limited stock compared to IF.
i just noticed you added Final Fantasy 9 theme music into the video :D
Always love the FF music in the background.
Oh boy, these funny little moments are so good. 6:00
I also remember the independet auction houses in Alliance captials. :)
Huh. Today I learned that click to move is a feature . Thanks, MadSeason!
proof you never botted ;)
I tryed once playing wow on a touchscreen computer and was messy.
That should be a mythic+ affix....click to move only!
Hey! is that Risk of Rain music I hear? Always love recognizing the music in your videos be that risk of rain, zelda, or some other game, keep it up!
There was also goblin auctionhouses in bootybay gadgetzan and other goblin towns so you could tranfer items from alliance to horde
