    For those wishing to visit this site legally, contact the Nipissing Rock & Mineral Club out of North Bay. This site is closed to "paid guided tours" offered by people like Malinda P. You would be trespassing and risk law abiding collectors losing access. Too much damage has been done and trash has been left everywhere. Equal or better garnets can be found at the Loughrin (Latitude: 46° 34' 55.77" Longitude: -80° 33' 49.21") or Simpson Lake (Latitude: 46° 36' 53.79" Longitude: -80° 33' 22.64") properties north east of Sudbury. There's also some nice kyanite to be found in the area.

      That is good info to know, I went just before it was finally closed and was wondering what other alternative options there were, it sounds like I might have to make some more trips up next summer and check out the other spots to compare and contrast. Thank you for such useful information! 👍

      I am wondering if you could give me more some info about these 2 locals. On how to get there etc, I would love to check them out and show ppl that there are viable alternatives. If you saw this video on Facebook feel free to message me there or if you are on Instagram I am there too.

      @@AL-lm7wg The President of the company that owns the land. I had heard rumours it was going to be closed, so I approached a company VP I had worked with to see if there were any other options. NRMC stepped in and convinced them to keep it open to private collectors who are covered under CCFMS insurance. Commercial tour guides and dealers are not covered, so they are not allowed. This is a really good thing for hobby collectors. It means we all still have access with very few constraints. Hopefully the bad apples won't ruin it for the rest of us...

    Those are some great garnets. I've been trying to get some good ones for a project of mine but get ripped off every time. End up with small shards that aren't good for anything. ✌️😎

    Beautiful and very interesting Aidan. I love garnets. I found some beauties while digging for gold. I can't remember if I sent you some of the tiny red garnet crystals in Rhyolite in the package I sent you. If I did you should know it came from Ruby Mountain in Colorado. Great video Aidan. @Ontario_Rockhound yah eh. I any groups in Muskoka you would recommend. On Muskoka property in Gravenhurst we sit on granite and looks like quartz crystal...you think so?

    • @Ontario_Rockhound
      @Ontario_Rockhound  10 місяців тому +1

      @monikafaulhaber329 granite is partially comprised of quartz, trick is to look for granite with the larger mineral chunks, the chunkier the higher the chances of crystal pockets occurring. As for the Muskokas another thing you could is see if there is a local mineral collecting club in your general area.

    Have you tried using a wire brush on the matrix you're trying to remove? Those are some great finds, hope everyone respects the property and folks can keep going. Did you see my pictures of the staurolite and garnet in matrix from NH I put up in Discord? Crosses can occur at that site, though I never found a really good one, they were pretty decayed. I loved all of them, can't pick a favorite.

    Those are definitely beautiful Garnets, I have found a few very tiny Garnets in the past . When spring hits I’ll be heading all over our beautiful province , I’ll be leaving Hamilton and riding up to Sudbury/Thunder Bay / Cobalt/ Lanark/ Bancroft and I’ll spend a few days in Wilberforce to do a few repairs on the cottages and rockhound around town and then I’ll return home back to the city. Thank you for the great advice on Garnet cleaning , best regards as always from Lloyd somewhere here in southern Ontario.👍
