How To Make A Free McBoot Memory Card PS2 Guide ➡ ua-cam.com/video/OtGNYqGXlkA/v-deo.html
I installed DARKWACHT.... and it didn't work for me, the others that I have tried, more than 50 have worked this way..... have you tried this game.
I just finished the Ultimate PS2 HDD mod from your other video and I gotta say - as simple and straightforward as this method is, I appreciate the extra content that comes with the ultimate mod. Sure, the process is more advanced and time consuming (especially if you're dealing with a large number of files), but the end result is worth the effort. I see this method as ideal for someone who's new to the homebrew scene or doesn't have the time to do the ultimate mod.
What are the benefits? Sounds interesting
@@Screamlover91 It allows you to install any number of games to a hard drive and boot directly from the console through OPL. In essence, you can have as many games as you want without having to wear out your physical copies/swap discs.
After a long day of looking for a solution to this really specific problem, I finally came across you! Thank you so much!
Thanks so much for these tutorials! I have a 4 TB Hard Drive coming for the ps2 😅 my sons are gonna have a blast not having to take care of the antiques
Hi Blaine. I'm D from Toledo, Ohio. I just finished doing this!! Thank you!! This tutorial was amazing!! This was my first time trying anything like this. I have been watching this tutorial for almost a month. I finally decided to order everything and attempt to add more games to my PS2. I can't believe I did it! You have a lifelong fan in Toledo!!! Keep making these tutorials!!
Thankyou Blaine. I did this mod not so long ago but I couldn’t figure out how to put the OPL onto the memory card. I’ll try this method fairly soon
Worked like a charm, didn't even have to replace the *.elf file since my FMB MemCard had various versions pre-installed already!
You helped me out a ton!
The lazer in my PS2 Slim is really struggling to read my games, this new version of OPL helped out a lot
It just means my games need more time to load since I don't have the Original PS2 but I don't care about that
Amazing. Thanks a lot! 😎 The old metjod had me carzy with errors appearing from the programs I had to use to copy the games to the SSD.
Love your vids Blaine, thank you for all the detailed tutorials, you always save me from hours of confusion and research
Glad to be of help. If you need anymore help, either myself or a friend of mine in the comments will help. I really love the community we've built here.
Great news, I bought a PlayStation 2 this Christmas. Did everything on your tutorial and I'm now a proud owner of a modded PS2. Games and everything work perfectly with the new version of OPL. Can't wait to jailbreak a PlayStation 3 next year!
From where you downloaded the games ? ( or turn the rar to iso if u did )
I always love your guides, and I was wondering if you could do a follow up video on adding artwork to the exFat file system drives, preferably without needing the USB stick. Keep up the great work Blaine
You can use OPL and set the target folder to your exFAT drive when its connected to your pc and do all of your editing, batch artwork from there. Working fine for me so far.
Can't you just use the OPL manager?
Is there a 3D-printer file for the HDD spacer ?
Besides, I love your tutorials and I unlocked so many consoles I own myself following your guides. Very detailed and very well explained.
Just discovered your channel, great content sir!
Thanks for the method followed it step by step it actually worked
Well there it is, a guide to the GrimDoomer OPL update!
Great walkthrough, Blaine. You’re a credit to the retro community! 👍🏻
Glad to see you back here. 😊
Brilliant as ever,and clearly explained.
Thank you! Always good to see you here. :)
This is really cool and fast, Thanks for this video
I have got to say you have some of the best tutorials on console modding on UA-cam, your work is thorough and simply fantastic
Great walkthrough, Blaine how to set up ps1
Just did it today sir & it worked flawlessly, I previously had it on usb but some games were janky & the hard drive works wayyyy better. 🎉🎉 thanks you sir.
I followed your other guide on playing ps2 games on my hdd. This method seems a lot simpler. Would I have to reformat my old drive and start over in order to use this method? Also, just to clarify, this method no longer forces you to use hdl batch installer? Thanks for all your videos, super helpful!!
I'd like to know this as well. I'd like to update opl and add a few more games without having to start from scratch on my current hdd
Although I'm an experienced user, I still appreciate the micro attention to detail of Blaine's guides. 👍
Worked great, thanks so much!
Thank you for this video. Was also stumped until you said to enable BDM in the settings. So far is there a way to run PS1 games via popstarter with this version of OPL?
Great video, love the clarity on each step by step! Such a useful update to OPL.
I still had issues with games appearing in the OPL Games List and in the OPL Settings and in the BDM / Block Devices section turned HDD to Off - which seems counterintuitive but the games appeared! For CD games mine were all in Bin/Cue format and only OPL Manager worked to convert them into ISOs that showed up in the OPL list. I hope this helps someone out there!
I'm now trying to figure out how game saves work as my FreeMcBoot Memcard in Slot 1 is almost full and most games don't seem to allow you to choose the Memcard in Slot 2. I've been physically switching after booting a game but its not ideal - any suggestions welcome!
Go into the elfEMU, and then configure OSDSYS configuration. Then down to item number, change it to OPL. Within that’s settings you can change it to look for it in either memory card a lot. Bear in mind they’re label 0 and 1 for the slots. Not 1 and 2.
You can put the memory card with the program in slot #2 and it works fine. If you have configured an elf file from the free mcboot menu, make sure to change the path to mc1.
@@justind901 I didn't understand what this configuration would be used for.
Same here, about the hdd off config. Thank you.
Thanks ALOT the HDD was off on mine but it didnt detect, but once i turned it on it worked!
Awesome video! Thank you so much. Just have one question though, is there a way to use box art/disk art like in previous versions of OPL?
Yes there is. The program OPL manager still works with this.
Rad. Thanx for the reply! 🎉
Blaine, do you think the hard drive method is best way of all to jailbreak the ps2? Since just the mcboot and usb method doesn’t have fast/smooth results
Thank you so much bro! I'm new to the retro gaming scene. I've been so frustrated and literally been close to tears the past 3 days trying to figure out how to add iso games on my external hard drive, I tried everything and watched tutorials on UA-cam but I ended up failing... Thanks to you I finally did it! The way you explain things is just so much clearer and didn't know it was this easy. Thanks bro!
Are you able to install OPL directly to the exfat HDD like in your other video? Or is that only possible with fat32 HDDs?
Blaine, where’d you get that 3.5” Hdd stl for 3d printing? I was going to print my own
❤The most soothing person to listen and best tutorials❤
Thank you. Just want to give it my best and help as many people as I can. Thanks for being here.
Great work there, Blaine. PS2 can shine again! Hahaha
It's always been shining. It's people like you and the others in this community that keep it shining. The Playstation 2 is a fantastic system.
Hey Blaine, does your ps1 video method to play them on USB via opl compatible with this opl as well?
Awesome video by the way!!😁
I'm trying to find an answer to this but hosting them on HDD on this exfat set up
Where can you put the ART folder to get the box & disc art??
I have it on my HDD, but they don’t show up
Any help is much appreciated
Your videos are amazing. I just completed this one, step by step. But for some reason my games list is not showing up. Unsure as to why.
@@brighterfuture7219can you guide me how to do this? My list doesn’t show up either, and can’t find an alternative method that is up to date. Im okay with using third party software, just unsure how to.
hi i followed every steps and opl shows my game list, but when i click play it gos to black screen please help
Do you have link for the 3d printed bracket you used?
Anyway we can use this method to load PS1 games as well?
I followed this tutorial and I got it to work. I love it so far. I have 2 questions. 1. Can you add cover art to this version of opl? If so how? 2. Can you play ps1 games with this version of opl? If so how?
Blaine is the man 💯
Thank you for the kind words. Stick around, there's more modding fun to be had.
Yes yes he is
How do you add the Artwork with this new OPL ?
hi Blaine, thanks to this video tutorial of yours, my PS2 now able to recognize the exfat formatted HDD and i was able to play the games directly from my exfat hdd, i just noticed that ulaunchelf unable to browse \ explore the content of my exfat hdd (like i want to transfer art files from USB to HDD). it there a work around on this issue?
can you copy the directory on the USB stick onto either the FMCB card or the HDD so you don’t have to launch OPL from the USB stick?
Hello, great vid and thanks for all the info. 1 question. At time stamp 0:46 you have shown the SATA HDD connector plug, but looking it at Amazon it says it only supports up to 2TB. Is there something out there that works for this application that will support 4TB? A full library is 3TB so some buffer would make it 4TB. Thanks! Also, how do you know which games are CD and DVD? As you show 2 folders need to made, 1 for each.
Full library 3TB? more than 3.400 isos are over 7.5TB, 8TB needed
There are 1904 north america iso's for ps2? which would be 2938 gb?@@RicardoGarcia-tc1zh
@@RicardoGarcia-tc1zh I'm guessing they have their games compressed. I have 1800+ NTSC-U games stored as CHD for about 2.5 TB
I like that this OPL is also compatible with MX4SIO.
What's the simplest methods to get PS1 games playing from the same HDD?
Qestion I have is how do I setup PS1 games on it as well or if it can do PS1 games.
do you always need to have a Mcboot memory card plugged in? Does it ever load to the games list directly?
Question: I am running my games of a flash drive usb stick. Before the games ran fine but it was fat32, I was told I can run format and load the 4gig plus games on as my latest build of OPL supports it.
I’m struggling to boot up with the flash drive in the PS slim. I need to boot up and then plug the stick in with all my games in order for it to work.
Is this correct ? How do I rectify it so it just boots up like it did before.
Thanks for the video 👍
Hi Blaine i have followed your tutorial, however i cant access my ps1 games via usb now, which was running before i updated the OPL. Any information concerning this issue would be much appreciated, regards Andy
Quick question would it work on ps2 phat Japan console?
Thank you so much! This was perfect, and this is WAY easier than how I did it before lol
Yeah it is way easier with people who have tons of money that is
wait what?
Can this be done with FHCB on internal exfat hard drive? or does this have to be on the PS2 memory card, ??
I don't know if its related to me using a exFAT hard drive , but resetting the console doesn't work properly, it hangs for a while then completly shutdowns
What about images, Box art, etc showing up on OPL? I saw someone testing this new version of OPL with everything like the box art showing up for every game.
Yes it works. I use OPL Manager to get the box art and OPL will display the box art. Also, patience is important due to the large HDD. I currently have over 1200 ps2 games on a 14TB HDD and at first took a bit to load all the games. Seems after cache it starts loading faster after the initial start ups. I've been waiting for this to do a complete NTSC library. Almost done and can't wait (on letter R)
@@user-ee8xd8ol5q That's quite impressive and you're right. OPL manager is a fantastic tool that works great with this build.
@@blainelocklair Thank you Blaine! Also, thank you for all the content you continue to upload. You're most certainly one of the best (one of my favorites) when it comes to tutorials. Thank you again!
Do you know why OPL would be giving me debug code pink when trying to use OPL via memory card but works fine when using OPL on USB?
In the boot file of the freemcboot card, the elf file to swap isn't the same name. Bought a card a while ago with 1.966 on it (the latest). Shall I just make my own now or is there something I'm missing?
Can you please cover how to transfer games through local network? and if this exist then how: transfer games from USB to internal HDD?
I do the procedure as in the video but it does not recognize the hdd in the opl, I use the same network adapter, any suggestions?
How do i play ps1 games were do i put bin and cue files?
will these work on slim models? i do have freemcboot and latest opl setup. i tried this by creating a new partition to a hdd i use. sadly the partition is not showing in the ps2 slim. please help.
SO basically, with this, you can just drag-and-drop ISOs without needing softwares like HDL-Batch-Installer to detect the PS2-formatted hard drive? And also doing the same things with ART, CFG, VMC folders as well?
If i understand this well, it doesn't use a "+OPL" partition, it use the BDM folder system that the MX4SIO (and OPL Manager) use, but with all the advantages of the HDD, and you can copy ISOs of over 4gb as well?
That would be a Yes to all of the above.😁
@@blainelocklair Also, is it only the Grimdoomer's OPL that support exFAT?
@@RaptorZX3 For exFAT on internal hard drives, yes.
@@blainelocklair Alright. It seem to be the same as the regular OPL, except some changes in menus maybe. So instead of pointing OPL Manager to my computer's hard drive, i can point it to the PS2 storage when plugged on my docking, for easy access to files, and everything else. So much more simplier this way, than having to copy games thru HDL-Batch-Installer, then copying all the arts and CFG to a USB drive, and then having to copy all that to the PS2 storage when plugged in. Now all that's missing is easy file transfer thru FTP on the console and it would be even more simple!
@@RaptorZX3 basically yes. ditch the old software that devs are clinging to, and show grimdoomer some support and love for his work. this is so much more convenient.
Do you know why I can't save changes in OSD settings ? Everytime I try to save it's still 4:3 RGB
Bob I want to ask you can I do this with external hard drive because I have a slim ps2
I found one HDD in a store that is the same model but the difference is that it's "7200RPM", will it work too?
OPL isn't in my boot folder for the free mcboot memory card I have.
I tried following MachoNachos guide and this guide and while i have installed the version of OPL correctly, no games are showing up, they are separated in the CD and DVD files and are correctly formatted to ISO, am completely stumped, any help would be great Cheers
I am having the same issue.
@zanehowell5796
Any luck? Having the same issues

@@carblazer31672 anyone found a fix? Currently doing this right now. The one step that Blaine here has done differently is to delete the old version of OPL within the Free McBoot memory card, and replace the NEW OPL file in that. However, still no games are coming up.

Is there a way to increase the size of some partitions for games over 4 GB?
There seems to be no information anywere on web on how to add artwork for this new opl which makes it nolonger worth doing without artwork whats the point ?
Can we use an SSD instead of a HD? same process for everything if yes? Thank you Blaine ❤
If you had an attention span longer than the Chinese spyware has conditioned you for, you would see that he talks about that and it works fine.
The first time i did this i got games to show uo in HDD games. Turned off console, went back into the menu, and now nothing. No games listed. Booted HDD up on computer and everything looks fine. Whats going on?
did you ever figure it out? it's Day 1 of this for me. pulling my hair out.
If I i format to exFat the PS2 then wants to format the drive. If I allow it to then it doesn't show on the PC and i can't transfer any iso across
How do i load iso's larger than 4gb onto the HDD? Im only finding options when using a usb flash drive which i don't want to do 😢
My opl can see the games on my hdl and Ethernet, but i get a black screen when loading the games.
I can still load off usb, which is in fat32 format.
Help?
Guys I ask you for help, although Io managed to load 90% of the games on the DVD folder, once the PS2 is turned on there is always that 10% of games that it does not read (Tourist Trophy, 50 Cent, Tomb Raider: Anniversary etc..). Do you have any advice?
My games inside my exfat hdd were not seen..even though when I filled only one game the game was seen. How did this happen?
Any way to add Free Mcboot directly to the hard drive? I've only seen videos for drives under 2TB.
Hi I did the steps the the OPL folder is missing please help
I have a Mac, my windows laptop won't charge so I'm going to be attempting this on a Mac. I'm sure it'll be fine, but I'll update everyone just in case. This is obviously a much easier process on windows!
i have a question please for those who may know...
will this support a ntfs memory card inside of a MX4SIO setup? thank you
Hi, terrific video, thank you!
Sadly, I am having issues with my 3TB hard disk. Grimdoomer sees it but it doesn't see the games in it. I formated it in exFAT/512b, I even made it smaller (1.5TB) but still nothing. Do you know what it can be? The procedure is so easy that I think the only issue possible is the HDD. As HDD I am using a external hard drive I had, so I am plugging it to the PC with its original case.
@@adrianrodriguez1390 I used a 2TB hard drive and no problems at all. Now I have a 2tb that don't know how to use.
Any idea how to add the Artwork with this new method? As this doesnt show how to add artwork with thew new opl used?
change the iso naming format from old to new
Hoping someone can help, follwoing this guide when I boot OPL there are no BDM options in the settings unless I boot it from the usb stick via the elf launcher?
I for some reason wasn't able to copy the opl files over, in that case you can just launch it from the usb and it will still work

I guess this isn't compatible with every drive. I used my original sata drive that I had setup. Reformatted drive to exfat per instructions and updated opl to the latest version. Drive isn't being recognized after saving the opl settings. I read the read me file and apparently this is the case of drives not being compatible and or additional changes are necessary to ulaunch as it was indicated in the read me. What's strange is that I used that drive previously with the opl formatting it. Oh well thar process was long. I won't redo it and much rather wait or look for another drive.
Hey, random question, but did you use the SABRENT USB 3.0 to USB to connect your hard drive to your computer?
What if you're setting this up for the first time and don't have OPL? Your previous video had more steps. I'd rather go the exfat way, so I don't have any issues with games over 4gb.
Update: Following the other video, it worked out great. Still using HDL Batch Installer to add games, but its updated version is a lot better. And games over 4gb work fine.
Is every drive compatible for this or do i have to check?
i have a problem with this.. my mcboot stuck on logo when my usb hdd is inserted.. im using 2.5 sata hdd with usb 2.0 enclosure.. can anyone help me? is this compatible using sata hdd in enclosure? my game only recognize when i go to opl and reinsert the usb hdd

No clue but it didn't work for me. After removing the OPL directory there is simply no OPL option anymore
