I just finished the Ultimate PS2 HDD mod from your other video and I gotta say - as simple and straightforward as this method is, I appreciate the extra content that comes with the ultimate mod. Sure, the process is more advanced and time consuming (especially if you're dealing with a large number of files), but the end result is worth the effort. I see this method as ideal for someone who's new to the homebrew scene or doesn't have the time to do the ultimate mod.

Hi Blaine. I'm D from Toledo, Ohio. I just finished doing this!! Thank you!! This tutorial was amazing!! This was my first time trying anything like this. I have been watching this tutorial for almost a month. I finally decided to order everything and attempt to add more games to my PS2. I can't believe I did it! You have a lifelong fan in Toledo!!! Keep making these tutorials!!
Thanks so much for these tutorials! I have a 4 TB Hard Drive coming for the ps2 😅 my sons are gonna have a blast not having to take care of the antiques
You helped me out a ton! The lazer in my PS2 Slim is really struggling to read my games, this new version of OPL helped out a lot It just means my games need more time to load since I don't have the Original PS2 but I don't care about that
Just did it today sir & it worked flawlessly, I previously had it on usb but some games were janky & the hard drive works wayyyy better. 🎉🎉 thanks you sir.
I followed your other guide on playing ps2 games on my hdd. This method seems a lot simpler. Would I have to reformat my old drive and start over in order to use this method? Also, just to clarify, this method no longer forces you to use hdl batch installer? Thanks for all your videos, super helpful!!
Great video, love the clarity on each step by step! Such a useful update to OPL. I still had issues with games appearing in the OPL Games List and in the OPL Settings and in the BDM / Block Devices section turned HDD to Off - which seems counterintuitive but the games appeared! For CD games mine were all in Bin/Cue format and only OPL Manager worked to convert them into ISOs that showed up in the OPL list. I hope this helps someone out there! I'm now trying to figure out how game saves work as my FreeMcBoot Memcard in Slot 1 is almost full and most games don't seem to allow you to choose the Memcard in Slot 2. I've been physically switching after booting a game but its not ideal - any suggestions welcome!
Go into the elfEMU, and then configure OSDSYS configuration. Then down to item number, change it to OPL. Within that’s settings you can change it to look for it in either memory card a lot. Bear in mind they’re label 0 and 1 for the slots. Not 1 and 2.
You can put the memory card with the program in slot #2 and it works fine. If you have configured an elf file from the free mcboot menu, make sure to change the path to mc1.
Thank you so much bro! I'm new to the retro gaming scene. I've been so frustrated and literally been close to tears the past 3 days trying to figure out how to add iso games on my external hard drive, I tried everything and watched tutorials on UA-cam but I ended up failing... I currently have over 1200 ps2 games on a 14TB HDD and at first took a bit to load all the games. Seems after cache it starts loading faster after the initial start ups. SO basically, with this, you can just drag-and-drop ISOs without needing softwares like HDL-Batch-Installer to detect the PS2-formatted hard drive? And also doing the same things with ART, CFG, VMC folders as well? If i understand this well, it doesn't use a "+OPL" partition, it use the BDM folder system that the MX4SIO (and OPL Manager) use, but with all the advantages of the HDD, and you can copy ISOs of over 4gb as well?
@@blainelocklair Alright. It seem to be the same as the regular OPL, except some changes in menus maybe. So instead of pointing OPL Manager to my computer's hard drive, i can point it to the PS2 storage when plugged on my docking, for easy access to files, and everything else. So much more simplier this way, than having to copy games thru HDL-Batch-Installer, then copying all the arts and CFG to a USB drive, and then having to copy all that to the PS2 storage when plugged in. Now all that's missing is easy file transfer thru FTP on the console and it would be even more simple!

It can already do that. You just need to set it up the same way you would a USB drive. It will create all the folders on the hard drive. When you do batch download it'll d
Download to the appropriate folder.
David is quite correct. OPL manager can be used in this way. Keep watching.
I found one HDD in a store that is the same model but the difference is that it's "7200RPM", will it work too?
ive got this spare 500G IDE laying around i was gonna put in....will this work for it?
Buy sata hdd
@@Saar1981 lol i just have a 500gig ide that works is all
I for some reason wasn't able to copy the opl files over, in that case you can just launch it from the usb and it will still work
Nice!!! This is the best mod for PS2,my PS2 online multiplayer games loading are more fast with this HD
can you copy the directory on the USB stick onto either the FMCB card or the HDD so you don’t have to launch OPL from the USB stick?
Any idea how to add the Artwork with this new method? As this doesnt show how to add artwork with thew new opl used?
change the iso naming format from old to new
I followed macho nachos guide and my games don’t populate, anyone else have this issue?
I don't know if its related to me using a exFAT hard drive , but resetting the console doesn't work properly, it hangs for a while then completly shutdowns
How does one tell what games go in the CD or DVD folders?
Great question . I'm wondering the same thing.
I have a few questions.
How do I run ps1 roms with this new set up?
Does popstarter work on exfat?
Is there a way to run popstarter to play ps1 roms as easily as drag and dropping ps2 iso?
I also can't seem to get devil may cry 3 special edition to show up in OPL
I can't be the only one trying to figure these out
I’m having the same ps1 issue
No, you can't play ps1 games
@@gulas_s_houskovym_knedlikem yeah you can. I can't remember what I did tho 😂
@@jonbrumbaugh332 i think you also added a different version of OPL and used USB to play psx games
I try this option and it didnt show me the opl folder to delete
same u can help ?????? @blainelocklair
I think he did a previous video of installing OPL and this video is an update of OPL he helped install before It's confusing because he did not incude a lot of steps he did in the past video.
@@volvoguy804 oh man thats unlucky i will try the other method with hdl batch installer it didnt worked for me because i had a sata usb cable and it didnt gave the hdd enough power
@@Jackmiov yea definitely would recommend the dock, I had no issues with mine. They're only about $40. BTW the HDL batch installer is an updated version and is much easier to use. Still, just follow his steps from his previous video, and when you get to that part, you'll see what I mean.
Thanks for the method
What if you're setting this up for the first time and don't have OPL? Your previous video had more steps. I'd rather go the exfat way, so I don't have any issues with games over 4gb.
Update: Following the other video, it worked out great. Still using HDL Batch Installer to add games, but its updated version is a lot better. And games over 4gb work fine.
How do you get the art working with this configuration? I copied the art folder and contenrs to the exfat drive but the art doesnt show up
Yes! Same question! Please make a video on this
Just wondering, did you enable artwork in settings. The great thing about this build is that the ART and CFG folders can reside on the hard drive. Please keep me up-to-date. We want to try to help as many people as we can.
@@blainelocklair will check that thanks 🙏
@@KoncadeGaming just remember to save settings after making the change.
@@blainelocklair yup cover art works now the art option is not enabled by default under display settings. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction 😄
hi Blaine, thanks to this video tutorial of yours, my PS2 now able to recognize the exfat formatted HDD and i was able to play the games directly from my exfat hdd, i just noticed that ulaunchelf unable to browse \ explore the content of my exfat hdd (like i want to transfer art files from USB to HDD). it there a work around on this issue?
How am I supposed to know which game is dvd and which is in cd format? Things can't just be easy. Now I gotta go figure out for each of the 100+ games which is cd and which is dvd. I give up man!
did you ever find out?
@@yungcerr DVD is ISO format, CD is BIN/CUE
Absolutely Brill as usual, will this work with ZSO games
Gonna try this out later. If it works, it’ll be a lot easier than the method I’ve been doing for the past few years!
Doesn't it feel great just to be able to drag and drop ISOs and not having to use 3rd party programs and format.
@@blainelocklair Yes! The only part I’m missing is the SATA connector to the PS2. The one I bought originally worked very poorly with with hdloader. However, I have a spare SSD and am willing to give this a try!
Retro on pax slim
@@ronaldthompson5093 eh?
Can I add also the ART forlder for the covers?
Question: I am running my games of a flash drive usb stick. Before the games ran fine but it was fat32, I was told I can run format and load the 4gig plus games on as my latest build of OPL supports it.
I’m struggling to boot up with the flash drive in the PS slim. I need to boot up and then plug the stick in with all my games in order for it to work.
Is this correct ? How do I rectify it so it just boots up like it did before.
do you always need to have a Mcboot memory card plugged in? Does it ever load to the games list directly?
Can you please cover how to transfer games through local network? and if this exist then how: transfer games from USB to internal HDD?
Hello, i am new to the PS2 scene, and how do i know what games are CD and DVD ?
Hi Blaine i have followed your tutorial, however i cant access my ps1 games via usb now, which was running before i updated the OPL. Any information concerning this issue would be much appreciated, regards Andy
Can I use FreeHDBoot on the hard drive formatted as a exFAT drive (so I can boot it without a FreeMCBoot memory card) and add the games easily?
Not currently.
U can't
How do I get the “ART” over? Is that doable in this setup?
