This seems a lot simpler than I imagined. I've had my PS2 slim for nearly 20 years and only started playing backups on it last year. Unfortunately the cutscenes are unbearably laggy with a USB drive and I got tired because I couldn't understand what they were saying or what was happening sometimes. I ended up ordering a PS2 fat last week for 35Eur with the sole intent of doing the HDD mod hoping it will run smoother. Looking forward to doing this, thanks a lot for the clear and straighforward tutorial

I am currently in the process of renovating and moving and have thus put all of my games and consoles into storage. Since I did the HDD mod for the PS2 not too long ago, I keps my ps2 and TV here, so I can still play a few games, while I don't have access to the physical copies. Also I'm getting back into PS2 quite a bit, since it is the only retro console I'll be able to play for the next 2-3 month ^^

Hello, I've seen in other videos people "patch" the games before installing them into the hdd. Is this necessary? Or does the WINHIP take care of that?

do you need freemcboot installed separately or does the winhiip provide all you need to boot up in freemcboot as well?

Gonna give this a go with the 2tb drive I just got. Having trouble formating and making partions with the hdd manager on the console so hopefully this program helps. Blaine Lockhart is the guy I usually follow for this but he's just not working for me.
Where do I get these game files exactly? When I tried a few websites the would appear in regular file explorer but if I try to add them through winhiip they are no where to be found.
Last year I bought an SSD to replace the HDD on my PS3 slim. I have yet to do it.

I upgraded the HDD in my PS3 from 40GB to 320GB by salvaging one from a TIVO sorta thing that was destined for the bin. Props to Sony for making it so easy to do.
I have a 500GB SSD in my PS3 Super Slim. The loading speeds are noticeably faster in digital games. I once did a comparison against a stock HDD PS3 Fat in Demon's Souls and the loading screens were like half as long with the SSD.

I know this video was uploaded a year ago but I have a question I got me a ps2 a year ago or so with 3 hard drives all three have every ps2 library and the third one has the hole library of ps1 games I have been playing Parasite, Eve for ps1 on the hard drive witch the Physical disc of that is two disc I had been trying to switch on the Second disc of the hard drive but doesn’t let me or give me a option to do so is there something I’m doing wrong or I’m I missing something that I need to transfer data or something really need help cuz I been trying to figure this out for awhile already but have no clue what to do?
may I ask how to create a ISO ps2 file from the PS2 disk I have? just as the normal way or any special operation for PS2 disks? is there any method difference when making ISO file from CD comparing to DVD PS2 disks?

I have 1tb external hard drive and I want to partition 500gb fat32 for ps2 games and another 500gb as NTFS for other files/movies. Is this possible by setting the fat32 as primary?
OMFG I still don't have PS2 with HDD, I remember when I was a kid I asked/make a wish to my parents to buy me (install me) the HDD on my PS2 but they didn't give me LMAO. I believe in that year, the price of it, it's like 20% of the Fat PS2 price

It slots onto the adapter tightly and securely enough. But yeah, I wouldn't be using the PS2 as a maraca.
i haven't gotten it to work yet. i placed all the ps2 ISO's on the hard drive via winhiip run as administrator, place the hard drive in the PS2, go through the Free McBoot options and can see the list of the games on the hard drive, but every time I try to start one, i get a black screen, or white screen, and nothing happens. what could be going wrong?
I have noticed that certain games work only on older TV's or monitors. I encountered the same problem where I got black or white screen when starting a game on my gaming monitor using the HDMI adapter, but on my TV using composite cable the games work. I think these games go under 480i and my gaming monitor doesn't support lower resolutions but the TV does. Also start your games with OPL not with HD Loader.
What hdd do you recommend. The brand?

When i select drive on WinHiip it says that i dont have a formated PS2 drive even though i followed each step, any suggestions on what to do?
admin mode sometimes you have to reformat the drive first in fat32 but depends on your opp win 7 10 or 11
I've found with my PAL UK PS2 its sadly not this simple, it would appear I have to implement hash checks and assign game_id's as I just get either a blank white screen or a blank black screen depending on if i use opl oe Hd loader. Should have known it looked too simple.
That's strange. My PS2 is also PAL and I experienced no issues like that.

Thank you for the video. Unfortunately it doesn't work for me. Winhiip doesn't see my drives. It's like I missed the part about how to make the drive suitable for Winhiip. In the video I see normal NTFS drives. It's the same for me, but the program doesn't see any of them. What could be the problem?
run winhip in admin mode worst case format fat32 and reformat
@@christopherhamilton5424 Thanks for the advice! I knew this too and always started as admin. It was another problem. This program was an old download for me. I downloaded it again, from a different source. Interestingly, everything went well right away. I immediately saw the drive with it. I don't know what happened to the old one, because even the version was the same. Maybe some antivirus messed with it. I wish you more useful time!

You can add and remove games any time you wish :)

I used a different method with HDL Batch installer, OPL Manager and formatting my hard drive on my PS2 through homebrew but it works fine.
The hard drive in my ps2 is an old ps4 pro hard drive I didn't use anymore and all loads fine on it.
Getting games on it with HDL Batch is very easy and copying pictures from usb for boxart is not that hard to do.
You can play ps1 games with this method ? I'm wondering if I need a network adapter or if I can get the Chinese sata adapter for the Ps2 without rj45 port
@@zomfgwtfbbq1 You can, although most ps1 games don't work as intended through OPL.
They might have fixed it but use your real PS1 games over using it through OPL in my opinion.

Can I play wrong region / burned PS1 games with Free McBoot?
I already know I can't play them from the HDD since the PS1 CPU in the console controls the HDD.
i know this is like 10 months old but just in case, you CAN play ps1/ps2 games from other regions if you use mechapwn (which is just a funny little region changing thing). it requires freemcboot, but it's a pretty easy thing to do. i was using it to play puyo puyo sun NTSC-J on a PAL ps2!

Yes, the USB ports are only 1.1 so the data transfer rate is quite lower than the hard drive.

@@energy_god yes very easy, any ssd hard drive will work as long as under 500gb meaning that you have to use a 250gb device crucial kingston 100%

My opl loader goes black when I select it on the ps2 nothing on the screen
it means that HD is not connected correctly or your using a cheap third party mem card or mem card did not install correctly if you use anything but sony 8mb strange things happen
I'm going to erase everything and start again.. but when I did this the first time I got right to the OPL on the PS2 with a game on there.. I can see the game on OPL on the PS2... But when I run it I just get a white screen... When I try to run it on hd loader it's instead a black screen.
Anyone know why I can't get any picture?
Just to add - I'm using a PC monitor which only has hdmi as the option.. so I've got an adapter in which I plug the white red and yellow plugs into it , and then that to hdmi on my monitor... So that should transfer picture and sound ?
I think you need to patch the ISO but I'm not sure, haven't tested it yet. There was a similar problem with burned cds of which isos needed to be patched with ESR disk patcher.
there is a hdmi patch you can apply for cheats with ps1 games certain memory cards don't work it's best to stay with 8mb official sony cards 100% they work all others are 50/50 and something won't load or work correctly

Hi erm… I have a PS2 Fat Pal and I do remember the Model of my PlayStation 2 I think it is Scph-50003 Some PS2 Slim Models have the Same Strategy as than the Fat aka Original PS2… and I’m not sure if it’s Compatible with the Free McBoot… Free HDBoot… Free HDDBoot… Free DVDBoot… I had a look on the Website for PS2 Home of Compatibility Models Chart both of them are v1.70/v1.90 for Europe Pal the Same Mode

Y'all with this model should look into the mechapwn mod that can Either unlock the ability for your ps2 to play burned ps1 games Or burned ps2 games. The choice is yours but the value of playing any ps1 games with this method is superior than the popstation method.
