That’s why I buy vintage Penns and Mitchell’s for a fraction of the cost and don’t worry about all this fancy new stuff- as they say with cars and motorcycles “chrome don’t get ya home”
I mean I’ve seen my buddy set hook on a tarpon and it broke right at the reel. You can say whatever you want but it doesn’t matter to those who actually have seen it happen.
@@ManuelOOFY I work at a tackle shop that sells these reels. When the x2s first dropped they took them all back about a month later and fixed the issue.
Its due to the size diameter of the line rolller the Penn Torques roller is smaller that changes the line angle and i bought a VSX 200 when i heard about the new designed that always has to work the bugs out.
The line roller is usually the first thing to wear on these van staal reels so they made it so you can easily swap them out. Not a big deal never had an issue over the years with mine
I’ve had the same problem with the last 2 I bought. The whole reason I bought one in the first place is because they’re supposed to be bulletproof. Not only are they not bulletproof they don’t even work right to begin with . So what are you getting for almost a thousand bucks ? Guys will defend these reels up and down . Really nothing more than a shiny pos
@privatecollectionyasmall8776 It's there 4th attempt and they still can't get it right plus the rotor looks like a ZeeBaas Watabe. For the record I do own more Vs then Zb. Send it in for the recall. They are replacing the rotor and I've heard that the color match is perfect.
Wow that bulls$&t for a 900$ reel that’s why I buy piscifun carbon x 2 80$ and light weight and lasted for a year or my pfluger president reel at 90$ it’s lasted 8 years for just walleye fishing all spring and summer and I use one for ice fishing too I’d say that’s a good reel and a lot of big walleyes too!
You drop a cheep reel on the rocks in the salty surf its done the vs is tough and can be fixed with upgrades.... they last but are not kill proof lol. There is no reel that's kill proof.
Smooth blend that spot out

Saragosa is a workhorse too. Very water resistant
No but chrome gets you dome…
What are some of the vintage Penns you're referring to? Old SS series?
old reels are ugly clunky and just all around bad
@@Dc2Dub to each their own. I find beauty in the simplicity and reliability of the old penns

Mines broke with a 15lbs catfish on the first hook on. It was 2 days old i sent it right back to bass pro and got a refund

Wow I'd say that's a major flaw in design! How could they miss that?
Never been an issue for me and I have two of the new ones. VSX-2 50 and 200 sizes. Caught multiple large fish one them.
The old one is rounded over better.. smoother transition. To me
Not the Temu set up
I don't see that being a problem unless you scratch the reel in that specific area which seems difficult, then may cause abrasion and fray your line.
That's the problem. It will cost your line.
With how expensive these things are that ain’t gonna justify a defect with this reel
Yeah cause ur pulling the line side ways
lmao
You can’t see with first but he’s not with second old model
Line still slides on the line roller so that doesn't matter at all.
Penn 6500 vii bailess all day every day
Can you shim the spool stack up a few thousandths?
for surf, what size ideal?
What should I do about it?
all sizes?
I have a vs100x2 and caught well over a hundred fish this fall on that reel. I have had no issues with line fray or losing any plugs.
@W.r thank you i live in japan i have vs300x2 I plan to use it for tunafishing it next week
@@ひねくれ坊主-g6j that's awesome, good luck to you brother I hope you get on some nice fish👍
@@ひねくれ坊主-g6j i'll be really curious to hear how the drag on the new gen 300 handles a big pelagic fish. good luck have fun and be safe
what is the name of that braid, like what’s the brand?
probably berkley x9 not a lot of white braids out there that I've seen
Where you been? There is a fix for this, new rotor. Send it back to your local shop and they will fix it. I did this when these reels first came out.

No big deal. Get your reel to any VS Service Center and have it upgraded to the new rotor for free.
wheir do i find one ?
They cost a lot.. and to I think it's not worth it buying something expensive then look for service center to fix the issue.
@@GoofBallGuru They are dogshit compared to best shimano daiwa okuma penn ect
They have the worst customer service on earth.

Plus the line roller assembly is screwed onto the new one, for 900$ it should be all one piece. Ridiculous

It looks like you got too much line on there that’s probably why. U supposed to leave 1/4 inch
Buy a Stella instead 🤣
Wow👍
You can always just file it down
Good,😮
Do VRs have that issue too?
I don’t think so
No I've had mine for 7 months never an issue
Vrs are dog shit vs, vsx, vsx2 are the best sealed and have the best internal components
@@johnwilcox2951 yea I’ve heard that too
I just can't see paying that much money for those reels- I know they are great but..
Just buy a penn job don
sell it and get a ZeeBaas!!

zeebaas is the absolute worst. Nothing but problems and their customer service is atrocious.

Then this reel isn’t for you in freshwater.
Pfluger president has lasted 10 years but are now just back ups.
i bought 2 reels and 2 rods for 20 dollars on amazon. After third year, still going strong

Vaan staal aren’t designed for freshwater
Buy a VISSER
Saltigas don't do that, neither does a saragosa. If you don't skish, you don't need a VS
Poor design.. unfinished design really… seams like they just had to put something new out
Lol looks like a really old spinning reel your a reel joker for buying that junk😂😂😂😂
The problem is that VanStaal are dog shid
