    great video very helpful. As a matter of interest is there a service procedure for the drag washers

    • @xlandscaper
      @xlandscaper  2 роки тому

      It’s a simple process. I’ll make a video when I service it this fall but it’s pretty easy. Drag stack comes out and put it back the same order. Same with the 2 OSPR3 drag seals

    • @ShorrockPaul
      @ShorrockPaul 2 роки тому +1

      @@xlandscaper Look forward to that thanks. Do you know if anyone has replaced the drag washers with carbontex greased washers to try and improve the drag ?
      BTW how did you get on witth filling gear box with oil. i like that idea as basically that is what it is, a gear box sealed with standard oil seals, if oil leaks out you know something is wrong or needs changing.

    • @xlandscaper
      @xlandscaper  2 роки тому +1

      @@ShorrockPaul I’m not sure about replacing the drag washers but I’ve never heard any issues with the factory drag stack in the 200’s. I use a very light coating of grease on the carbon washers and my drag is always silky smooth. And all the older vs reels used straight gear oil. I’ve been using royal purple and superlube combo for a few seasons and the reel has been butter smooth, doesn’t stiffen up in the cold and yes if you see a sheen of oil in the water you know ur leaking and it time for a Service.

    Have you had any problems with the oil getting into the AR clutch causing it to slip?

    • @xlandscaper
      @xlandscaper  Рік тому +1

      Thank you for watching! Not at all. VS factory service actually recommends coating it. Reel is butter smooth even in cold weather and hasn’t missed a beat.

    i have a van staal vsx 200 and when i cast the handle will crank by its self and sometimes it catches the line any way to fix it?

    • @xlandscaper
      @xlandscaper  3 місяці тому

      When you cast make sure the handle is pointed down, parallel to the rod (towards you) the spool should be fully extended.

    • @fearmyglock_850
      @fearmyglock_850 3 місяці тому

      @@xlandscaper yeah it still does that when the spool is fully extended

    • @xlandscaper
      @xlandscaper  3 місяці тому

      @@fearmyglock_850 could be the seals are loose and worn out allowing the handle to rotate. When the reel has fresh seals the handle has some resistance to turn and typically won’t spin on its own. Another possibility is the spool could be overfilled with line

    Hi, thank you nice video. unfortunately I have mounted the left side cover incorrectly in the final phase of reassembly and it's all stuck, I can no longer open it, I even bent a key, nothing, all stuck, do you have any advice to overcome this nightmare? I am in complete despair
    Regards
    Caesar

    • @xlandscaper
      @xlandscaper  Рік тому

      Man that’s unfortunate. They only way to get the side plate off is to cut it off. Take a hacksaw blade or dremel cut off wheel and slowly cut through the side cover being careful not to cut into the shaft. Once that’s fully cut off you can unscrew it bc the part you cut off has the anti reverse bearing. It’s definitely not for the faint of heart but it can be done. If you aren’t comfortable definitely send it in. Also google search it, there’s a few forums that explain it with pictures. Good luck man.

    • @toaster816
      @toaster816 Місяць тому

      You can get it off by tapping the end of the main gear with a mallet and turning the wrench every time you tap. It will only move a millimeter at a time but it will come off eventually. I’ve done it. It sucks when you do it but this method works.

    • @xlandscaper
      @xlandscaper  Рік тому +1

      I have never taken a smooth one off but I think they use a small strap wrench so it doesn’t mark the cover

    Do you find the gear oil to be noisier than the grease? I noticed a little bit at the end. I can hear the main drive gear and the pinion gear.

    • @xlandscaper
      @xlandscaper  3 місяці тому

      Yes it does make a little more noise using straight royal purple… What I’ve been doing is using superlube grease and royal purple mix. It’s a thicker consistency that you can make as thin or as thick as you want. Super smooth and quiet.

    Help What do i do? I mess up the last step when i put the cap on... now i can' take it off...

    • @xlandscaper
      @xlandscaper  6 місяців тому

      That’s exactly what I warned about. It happens… Only way is to carefully cut the cap off with a hack saw or dremel near the body and slide off the “cut” pice that covers the anti reverse bearing then unscrew with Chanel locks. The anti reverse bearings is preventing it from removal. At this point if you don’t feel comfortable a VS service shop will be the best bet.

    • @xlandscaper
      @xlandscaper  Рік тому

      Dam that sucks. Remove the rotor and you are going to have to cut the handle side cover where you screw the handle on with a hack saw or dremel and be careful not to cut into the shaft, otherwise you’ll be getting a new main gear/shaft too. Once you get it all cut around the aluminum you can take a pair of vice grips and twist it off. Sounds complicated but it’s not that bad from what I’ve seen. Otherwise saltwaters will take care of you. Good luck and let us know how you make out
