- Ned rigs have been blowing up lately. There is no doubt that ned rigs put fish in the boat. Bass, Pike, panfish, you name it, this rig will boat it. That said, a ton of competition has cropped up around this awesome fishing lure. Today we compare some of the top competitors on the market to see which bait has the best action underwater.
Ned Rigs Compared:
- Z Man T.R.D and SHROOMZ jigs: shopkarls.com/catalogsearch/r...
(Karl's bait and tackle) shopkarls.com/catalogsearch/r...
- Googan Baits Rattlin Ned: shopkarls.com/googan-baits-ra...

What size head do you prefer?
Your need rig 6 ounce not 6 grams 🤔 that's beige size.
Zman hint: Zman plastics can take a little while to gain buoyancy. If you stretch it a few times, the material gets air in between cells and immediately become super buoyant.
Great tip!
Yeah I try to use the same one over and over and it gets better the more fish grab it and a
How long it stays submerged.
Ryan Williams it’s hard because I feel like I should put fresh one on 🤣
Ha ha I know. I have been gluing them on so that I fish it until nothin is left. Over 6 bucks a pack at Walmart! Check out the ned missile been real nice to me this spring. Does not float but can really imitate distressed fish.
Thanks for the tip!
Hey man, just a heads up the z man baits will melt in a box my itself too. It reacts to the plastic of the utility boxes. Best way to store them is in their original package.
Thanks for the heads up. Mine have been in a plano box for over a year with no issues. I wonder if it depends on the type of box your using. Either way I won’t go around telling people to store them that way anymore
I remember old bass worms would melt together and melt into tackle box trays. They seem to be better now but I usually keep them in their bags to avoid problems.
Nice comparison. My son and I use the Ned Rig , mostly Zman, for about 80% of our fishing. It just does the job. One tip, use a small dap of crazy glue to attach the lure to the mushroom head. Keeps it in place the whole day, even after multiple strikes, catches.
Great tip! I've been keeping some super glue in my ned rig gear for the past year or so. Those elaztech baits will land literally 100 or more fish if you rig it right and super glue it
Love the underwater footage, definitely helps understand and see how it works so I know how to work them given specific conditions
Good Video man. It's nice to see the actual action of the compared baits
Thanks! Glad it was helpful!
I think some sand and gravel in the bottom of the tank would be great I love that xzone
An idea that occurred to me after shooting to of these fml... here is my tokyo rig vid with neon pink rocks lol: ua-cam.com/video/kn6VS-iTX3k/v-deo.html
This is an awesome video. There was a lot of great information. Keep up the good work.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Just seeing this video now I usta fish alot but became a otr truck driver and got away from it but getting back into it last couple years subscribed to monster bass a few years ago. Started getting those ned rig baits seen you and your buddy fishing them. I finally tried them this past summer and I had a blast caught a lot of nice fish
🙌
The whole presentation was perfect! I get too overwhelmed with all the choices. Easy button right here!!
Thanks!
New sub from South Florida! Great videos!
Glad to have you! Thanks for the support
Love your channel, man. I have a good feeling that sub number is gonna skyrocket before long. Keep up the good work, and tight lines!
Lyndon Saylor 🙏❤️Thanks for the support!
I completely agree great content!
Hey man thanks for this video 👍 really helpful... Man i would like to see all types of baits just to see how they look under water. I see that you are from Michigan me too🍻 keep up the great work.
Glad you liked it man! I will definitely keep doing these videos. Probably Shaky head next. High five from the Mitten man!
the ned head where the hook broke off is more than just a paper weight: it could be used as a weight in a Neko set up.....
I'm absolutely a ned rig convert. I've tried it occasionally in the past and caught a few but I never really committed to it for some reason. Today changed that. I was at my favorite lake using my standard baits and was having very little luck. I switched to a z man june bug ned rig and killed the smallmouth the rest of the day. The only reason I stopped is because that lake is really rocky and I lost the few jig heads I had. Just stocked up and I'm ready to go again.
Awesome tutorial bud
Wanna know something crazy? I take the googan rattlin ned. And texas rig it on a 4/0 hook, weightless and swim it slow. I managed to catch my PB this year at 6 pounds 2 ounces, give it a try. The action mimics a swimming fish kinda.
I like it man!
@@aaanglers I'm glad! Good luck out there
Nothing compares to Z-man Elaztech material.
Facts
Had same problem melting till my buddy read me the storage directions on the bag. Try inserting a small rattle into it. Seems like the rattle ones get more attention then the non rattle ones and they still float, insert in front end.
Thank you for showing me that and I really like the x zone and how that work
Glad you liked it! That x zone was pretty awesome.
@@aaanglers were did you get them hook from again
Swagger Tungsten, Ned Flanders jig. Or ZMan Shroomz jigs. I just added links in the description too
Subscribed!
Thanks!
I'm giving the lifted jigs ned ewg jig heads a shot this year. I can't fish a ned or basically anything but a completely weedless rig in a lot of place near me once the summer grass and weeds grow in. I'm hoping it will let me fish the ned there.
I used that this year! Light wire EWG with a neko nail weight in the tail end! Worked great with ZMan TRD worms
@@aaanglers exactly what I've been doing the past week or two. I saw Mike Ike, explain how to rig it, He calls it the "Tiny Child rig" kinda creepy lol. I got the color zman TRD called "New Money" works great where I live in North Florida.
Have you ever tried the nikko hellgrammite? I heard they work really well and have the same type of plastic that zman uses.
I used the craw in a recent river fishing video and it's pretty dope. The plastic is a little denser than Zman, and adds to the toughness, BUT, they are REALLY expensive. ZMan is just too affordable for Nikko to compete.
@@aaanglers yeah, makes sense, 4 for like 7 bucks.
Zone is my favorite, easy to rig, floats and flat out works
I think xzone is the best option after zman. Strike king are too heavy and the rattler on the googan is a horrible idea imho.
Roberto J. Berrios agree completely, I just like how easy xz slides on a hook with a good keeper. the zman material makes it a little tricky sometimes, but I do like the size options with zman
Nice vid man... Think I may try the xzone due to this... I usually stick to zman because well.... Durability.... Lol.... Never had the drive to try the googans. Use a hook, poke through the end of a trd a bit, push in a rattle. I do that when the water is a little low on visibility. And still cheaper in the long run lol.
Nice tip man!
New subscriber as of last week. Hit the bell as well! Just wanna say great content man. Where are you fishing from?
Thanks for the support! Fishing out of west Michigan. Grand Rapids area mostly.
Burly Fishing nice. I’m just north of Boston. Keep it up! can’t wait to see the fishing videos
Awesome! This winter has been awful... I can’t wait to hold a bass again!
Burly Fishing seriously. I am gonna hug my first bass of 2020 shit you not 😂
@@aaanglers same
Another thing I'd like to see... In relation to this video... How about rod and reel set ups and preferences? Maybe a complete rod and reel arsenal video? Just some ideas!
It’s on the way! Personally I want to be on the water when I do it so I can provide a more in depth review of everything. But it could easily be a 2 parter!
What color was that TRD HogZ? Also have you used the Trd tubez and how good do you think they are?
Drews craw and yes! The tubes are great!
You should also try the 6th sense Ned Fry worm! It will float and it’s an awesome Ned Rig bait
I’ve been thinking about that! I’ll pick some up
my zman ned rig hook handled a 6 lb bass okay but continues to open up on larger bass and one hook actually broke in half.
Where did you get that Huk shirt? very nice
Cabelas/bass pro
I'm a slowpoke coming into this, I've had some good success with the Googan stuff but I do need to up the weight of my ned jig. I'm kind of just working through the rest of what I have though, you're dead on with the durability being disappointing.
Definitely wish they were more durable... I have had some good success on them from time to time
Best way to fish a Ned rig is with a Slugo. Been doing it 25 years. Try it! Awesome action, and perfect search bait. I only used the color black, no other color produced as well as black
I'll check that out!
Interesting. So are you using the 4 1/2 inch one? And just put that on a ned head? I never thought about using that way.
What baits should we compare next?
Have you ever used Bass Pro tackle ?
Toxyo rig or maybe a similar video on regular shaky heads? Crankbait comparisons are always nice!
Also can you out links to some of the products in the descriptions? Not all but maybe the preferred hooks etc?
Not really. Anything lures or baits you're specifically referring to, or want to see?
Just updated links in description. My preferred jigs for ned rigging are the Swagger Tungsten Ned Flanders. ZMAN T.R.D. all day. I think we will definitely do the shaky heads next!
Burly Fishing like bass pro brands vs well known brands, doesn’t matter the type of lure. I shop a lot at bass pro and the price differences are pretty substantial and sometimes I really want to lean towards the bass pro brand. I worry that I will loose performance buying the cheaper option.
New sub here! 💪🏼
Thanks for subbing!
Burly Fishing my guy, thanks for the content!
Truly got a lot out of the video,,,!!!! Would be great to see these presentations, in “WMA” fisheries... here in Florida, we have a great deal of vegetation & pine straw debris etc,,,🌎🇺🇸💦🦅🎶👌💦🌴 I find the eye ring on the Ned head, collect’s pine straw etc... Otherwise if rigged correctly, it’s totally weedless,,,,, 🌎🇺🇸💦🦅🍃 Fish on, TightLines💦🍃🐟🐠🎣
Also with z man dont let it sit in sun to long. Even left in package. They melted so fast.
I know I’m quite late here but zman has actually come out and said that you should pull the plastic up and over the hook keeper and that that will make the plastic stay on the hook keeper super tight, but no matter want you do the trd will stay on forever. They also recommended putting a very small dab of super glue to connect the trd to the head, but I don’t find that necessary and don’t do that.
Love it, I go through this in my Ned Rig video on the Monsterbass UA-cam video. I use the glue when the TRD starts slipping after about 50 fish 🤣
Burly Fishing yeah no kidding they last forever😂 the trd is definitely my most favorite ned lure, I almost always have one tied on. The missile baits Ned bomb is definitely a close second, you just can’t beat the buoyancy and durability of elaztech.
@@prestonbielenberg1084 Been meaning to check out the ned bomb asap
is this method more for smallmouth than largemouth?
Both! This option is good for most freshwater species. I've caught bluegill, crappie, pike, Largies and Smallies on this.
Thanks man
Anytime
Whoa an old burly video!! #ChartDueceNation
6oz...? Wow thats really heavy for being so small.
They should make floating fluke with this Ned rig
Like an elaztech fluke? They do!
Holy shit 6 oz ned rig head!? Lol
1/6 oz
@@aaanglers lol I know I was playing with you! Good video man!
@@chasingthefish9042 lol, I mean, I would try a ned rig anchor..
@@aaanglers lol at that point it would be for a 12 inch senko as a "ned rig"
I heard if u pop the rattle out if the googan one it will float
Yeah, the rattle really throws it off. Plus side, dual purpose bait. Downside you have to break i to use it sometimes.
I bought 2 packs of the googan ones cause of the rattle, but was not impressed by the lack of buoyancy or the durability.
They do work, but durability is not great for sure
Googan lures suck, save your money.
A regular worms has salt and won't float. ZMan has no salt in the TRD. This is what you don't want the rig not to float. You want it to float good... I don't use salt in non of my ned rig.
Googan stuff is for Googans.
what 7 people disliked this vid?!
It's all part of the game lol
Burly Fishing i guess
What do you have against googan baits... I mean really you had nothing good to say about them and x zone lures cost the exact same amount.I was just wondering what you had against them.
Actually nothing. I fish a ton of their stuff. The issue with the rattlin’ ned was the action. It just doesn’t compare to zman or even the x zone when it comes to action and how a ned rig should be fished.
If they weren’t UA-cam personalities their products wouldn’t have made it past the first quarter, their stuff is one notch above Walmart’s ozark trail lures.
If you buy Googan stuff, you are the Googan.
What do you mean? He compared the Googan baits to the competition, and all of the competition was better at this test. That's not bias, that's facts.
2 smart watches lol
Double time!
Interesting to see the googan bait do kinda poorly
Something I realized after this was that you can pop out the rattle and then they do float. I've actually caught some decent fish on that ned too. Mostly in rivers for smallmouth, they seem to like the rattle. I would still go ZMAN on lakes
@@aaanglers zman has definitely been my go to, but I've been slowly trying the googan baits.
Sub👍
Thanks for the support!
All googan baits suck
Agreed.
