For an area that you weren’t expecting a lot of good stuff to be at, you had some nice finds. The little crabs cracked me up ! That would be so much fun to come across. Have a great day everyone !
Helli, Sharmon, so glad to go along to Bunche Beach! Wow, what a lot of interesting tiny shells! Some of them I've never seen before! Kind of makes you think how many tiny shells people overlook in favor of the big, showy shells! I'm so glad you're having a fun beach day! It does my landlocked heart good to see you and hear the joy in your voice, dear friend. Until I can get there, I' ll see you in my beachy dreams. Much love to you and many thanks for keeping my beach tank full of sea, sand and shells! M
I think there is a "natural progression" us shellers go through. First, we all want the big horse conch or lightning whelks. That's all the matters - the big ones. Then the allure of only looking for big shells dissipates and the smaller shells become more "attractive." Then comes the teeny tiny shells, not to mention the "weirdos" like albinos or freak shells. I love them all and I'm thrilled that there is still so much to learn!!!
Hello Sharmon! Thank you for taking us all to Bunche Beach. I learned the names of some shells that were new to me. Gotta say how happy I am that you found those awesome crown conchs. There's nothing quite like them. Of course the wentletrap was wonderful as were the rest. I was a couple of days late this week watching your show....I'm now busy with my new white Labrador puppy, Mr. Knightley. So now my other senior beagle, Pandy, has a new friend after losing our beautiful Sundae in May. He is gentle and sweet just like his name sake character. I'm so glad you're doing beach walks. I hope to take one with you someday. Have a blessed week, my friend. I'd love to see the shell you're planning to paint once you have it done.
Oh happy days to have a new pup! It's amazing how much joy these creatures can bring us 🥰 I got a kitten last September and I can't believe he's already a full grown cat! I just adore critters! ❤️ Enjoy Mr. Knightley!
I surely will enjoy him and Pandy is not so lonely now. Yes we have two very nice kitties too. They are part Maine Coon cats and are brothers. They truly are gentle giants. They have been so nice to the puppy. I adore critters too.
So glad you got that brown-band WT! I found a couple some years back in SC along with a couple of the white species-it seems every year is a different shell. That year was wentletraps. This year baby’s ears. Knobbed whelks, sand dollars, and lettered olives have had their years too. I find the cycles of shells so interesting. Looking forward to next week’s walk!
@@SWFBeachLife I found a lot of baby ear shells at Holden Beach in NC. Unlike FL, I found quite a variety of colors which I assume was from the mineral composition of the sand. For Christmas our kids got us nights at a hotel so we could stop there when we head down to FL again in October. Hoping to find an Eastern Murex this year.
@@Bev-c8k I would faint to see one of those giant murex shells on the beach. It’s so funny what is common to me is exotic to others. Good luck with that murex!
The brown banded Wentletrap! OMG!!!!! So excited for you! I swear that gaudi nautica has a little shape of Texas chipped into it! 😂 Maybe I was seeing it from a weird angle, but I see enough Texas shaped things to know it when I see it! Maybe it’s thinking about the Texas coast right now, but thankfully Beryl has not been as bad as we thought it could be. My parents are getting hammered with some rain and wind, but they are safe and have everything they need.
Such a pretty beach area! Congrats on the wentletrap! I found a Brown Banded Wentletrap too just last month at Melbourne Beach! I was stooping down to pick up another shell and noticed the perfect circle aperture and was like YES!!!! Finally! My 1st wentletrap; I was so excited. Super tiny too. Beautiful crown to take home!!!!! Under/near the causeways in Melbourne, FL you can find those crowns along the Indian River too. Happy shelling!
Yay on your first wentletrap! I feel like that first one is the hardest to find. I’d love to explore along the Indian River. I’m one class away from being a FL Master Natutalist and I just love exploring Florida!! Happy shelling to you too!!
This was a lovely outing, Shar. Thank you for explaining about the special canoers. I loved seeing the Eagle out there too. Thanks for taking me along, Beach Friend. See you next Sunday!! 🏖🐚❤
What fun finds this week. Augers and similar shells always have crabbies living in them where I live so i don’t tend to pick them up. It seems they are not as interested over there.
The crown conchs were awesome. One had the longest spikes I have seen. The striping in the inside of the other one is beautiful! And the tiny wentletrap, what a surprise!
Another interesting and calming video. Thank you. Here in northern Kentucky I do not have beaches to scout. However, I am an avid gardener and find numerous fossils. Once upon a time this area was an ancient aquatic seabed. Organic skeletal remains clearly present themselves in rocky sediment. I have discovered many intact braciopods (Kentucky's state fossil). Traces of another geological age is quite thrilling. Some of my fossils are so fascinating I display them in my home.
This is awesome! I think us “hunters” all share that passion to see what we can find. I’ve found a few shell fossils and I know you can go fossil hunting in some areas here in Florida. I went to try to learn how to find live land snails here in FL. We didn’t get to see any that day, but we found tons of tiny shells. The hunt is so rewarding!
I am getting cataract surgery soon and hope by next winter, I can see the tinies better. However, I may just need to train myself to see them like I did years ago when I first started looking for shark teeth. 😁
Congratulations on the Brown Band Wentletrap! Love the minis, they are so beautiful, but they do require focus and good eyesight to find them. Great walk on the beach!

No, the Mantanzas Bridge can be seen from Bunche Beach and the North end of Fort Myers. The bridge at the bottom of South Fort Myers Bridge goes over Carlos Pass.
I loved the brown band wentletrap!! What a find! (I've found one wentletrap...in France!) Do all crown conches have the little spikes going down to the narrow end and they just get worn off, or do they just not all have them? One of the ones you found had some. I loved the little Morton's egg cockle...a darling!!
You have a good eye! Not all of the crown conchs will get that second row of spikes. Some just don't grow them. Others have them but they are small and then others will have a glorious second row. Plus the direction of the spikes can differ too. I've seen them from other areas and the spikes tend to go straight up, whereas the ones I find, the spikes grow at an angle. It's all fascinating. Oh to go shelling in France!!!!
@@SWFBeachLife Thank you for the information on the crown conches. I've only seen the ones you've picked up and featured in your videos. But I remember one that had spikes that were hooked on the ends! That one was glorious!! (I'm leaving on the 21st to go to France for 3 months...I'm going to 6 of the Olympics events! And hopefully I'll be able to get up to the coast again, too! That's where I found the wentletrap and found 3 "sea potatoes" - which I'd never even heard of before - but only one made it home in one piece. )
After many, many of your episodes, I decided to do more research on gastropods and sea snails. I was curious about the animal inside and how they made their shell . I found a UA-cam channel where the really sweet creator shows and explains how the animals work and what they look like on the inside of their shells. He makes it all easy to understand by using great visuals, models and a soft voice. He’s videos would be excellent for children. I’m not trying to divert Sharmin’s viewers to other channels, but thought I’d share the channel for my fellow gastropod lovers. Here’s the channel name: Odd Animal Specimens

That's where I found the wentletrap and found 3 "sea potatoes" - which I'd never even heard of before - but only one made it home in one piece. )
@@jantaylor2034 What an adventure! I hope you have an amazing time! Go USA 🇺🇸
P.S. Wentletrap! I love me some Wentletrap! 😅
SAME!!!
I just subscribed to that other channel! There is plenty of time/room for learning!

What kind of shell bag do you use?
I use a bag from SWFL Shell Guide: www.swflshellguide.com/product-page/shelling-bag-seashells-of-swfl-round-mesh
It even saved my little wentletrap!!!
And transform 📷
Hope you waited to keep going n after the eagle left
Nasa after NASA? How do these get named?
Nassa, but I don't know how it got its name.
Nassa is the name and I’d love to know how it got its name too!
Do you ever find any empty Periwinkles?
I do from time to time but they are SO delicate it's quite hard to find them unbroken.
@@SWFBeachLife Thanks for replying! Btw, you’re awesome! I wish I could express how much your beach visits feed my soul. I grew up on Huntington Beach CA and I’ve been landlocked in the Dallas area for the last 43 years. Ugh! When we retire I want to relocate near a beautiful beach.
2:20 I watch every episode you create 2-3 times. My husband thinks I’m obsessive, but I catch him watching your show! We’re planning a trip to the Ft. Myers area for next winter or spring. Hubby just bought a water proof backpack for the beach - ha, ha! We’ll definitely be taking a SWFL Beach Tour with your friend.
Many, many thanks for your channel!
@@lorii7556 This warms my heart! I know if I lived here and had to move away I’d be devastated. I’m so happy you enjoy my beach trips as much as I do!! ❤️
You may say you're a local but you're probably a northerner
Hello where exactly is Bunch Beach!
Fort Myers, Florida 🌴🌊
She shows an aerial photo at about 19:00 that shows its placement relative to Sanibel and Fort Myers.
have you ever found fossilised shells?
I have! I have one that is a cancellaria plagiostoma - it's over 2 million years old!
@@SWFBeachLife Wow that is sO cool! Was that just on a beach somewhere? :O
@@lisak5133 It was in Fort Myers Beach. We actually have fossils all over the place. Mostly in parking lots where old shells are used instead of gravel. We don’t have many rocks down here - just limestone!
@@SWFBeachLife Oh wow that is so cool! Thank you Sharmon!
Sorry, but I'm extremely turned off by your $275 fee ... for beach walk???? Jesus!
Not cool
Thanks for the feedback! 😉
