We are also refugees from the city. Looking forward to learning more in future vids. Our family got an property just south Tully . Started a veggie garden had some success and a whole lot Of failures but loving the process.
Oh Wow! How cool is it up here !?!? 😁It's is so beautiful where you are. We've had some failures too but like you say loving the process is the way to be. Ya live and ya learn 😊 Hopefully we can share what we learn along the way👍Let me know if there is anything you are really interested in and ill put it on the list (if I know how to do it) lol. Thanks for the chat. Its so cool to talk to people in the same boat 😊👍
@@vintagefoodfarm yeah for sure, I’ll be definitely In The comments asking questions. Only thing I’d suggest to your list and something I’m keen to know is what veggies can be grown well here and when to grow. I’ve been growing things at the wrong time. Only thing that’s doing well now are the chilies. Cucumbers aren’t setting fruits. 🤷♂️
== Thank You = What a wonderful property you have together = I wish you success and success = health and a long life = I love you with all my heart = From the Arab Republic of Egypt =
Hi Jenena!😁We are so glad you liked it! Still heaps of fruit trees to go so we will be doing part 2 this week 😊 Thanks for telling us where you are from. Its so amazing to think that someone is watching from Perth 😊Have a great day! and Happy New Year🎉
Hello Vintage Food Farm 🥰 I'm so glad to have found your channel, I'm loving the food growing and self sufficient, homesteadding channels here in Australia.
Hi from Bundaberg! I'm so excited to see your channel. I agree that there is a lack of info on growing in Australian tropical and sub tropical environments. I've been gardening here for 5 or 6 yrs and am getting a pretty good handle but I've recently gathered new friends that are starting gardening and to guide them to your channel will be perfect. I will be watching and sharing with great enthusiasm.... I did not know you could plant directly into mill mud so I've already learned something new from you!
Hi Cathy from Bundaberg! Thank you so much! I'm so glad you like the channel😊Mill mud is the bomb! We cant recommend it highly enough and you must have heaps in Bundaberg👍We use it for potted plants and hanging baskets too and they love it. We think sometimes because we didn't know much at all we weren't aware of all the rules so we accidently broke them 😁We often find out after we've had a success that it couldn't be done lol. Thanks heaps for sharing too!
Thanks Reenamol! Glad you enjoyed the video! 🤠You are 100% correct it is a longan. We found that out eventually lol 😁Thanks for telling us though😊We really appreciate all the information we get in the comments 🤠
So happy to have found your channel 😊 We are in Rockhampton and your right it's so hard to find anything relating to our Sub tropical - tropical climates. Really love seeing the chooks just wandering around. Looking forward to more of your video's.
Hi Shan from Rockhampton! 😊So glad you like the channel! We really love the chooks wandering around too😊so chill 😁There will be heaps more videos so enjoy!
Oh I am so pleased that I found your channel. We are making a move from Hobart to Port Douglas (Jullaten) in a few months with the plan to live as self sufficient as possible. I’ll be following your channel closely! Many thanks 🙏🏻
So glad to have come across your channel. Coming from tropical Central Qld it would be very helpful to know when you plant different vegies and what grows for you with these hotter temperatures and humidity. Great video 🙂
Thanks so much Noelene! Your climate is very similar to here so I know how important it is to find the right plants. The wrong plants will just dissolve in the hot and humid weather. I will do my best to give you some good ideas in coming videos! Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. I really appreciate it :-)
Hi Melanie! That's awesome! Thank you so much😊It's amazing how similar our climates and plants are! We got a lot of information from gardeners in Florida 😁We really want to visit Florida one day to check it out and get some ideas👍
Love your channel. I moved from Hobart to SE Queensland on my retirement journey and it’s hard to find tropical content for gardening. ( I do love Mark from Self Sufficient Me. ) How did you move your 4m friend on? That would freak me out. When you do your video on the chickens, can you show me your automatic chicken coop door? Thanks from Lisa.
Hi Lisa! I agree Mark (Self Sufficient Me) is the real deal :-) We called our local snake catcher Claude to relocate the Python. We are not up to moving them yet :-) It used to freak me out but I am actually getting a bit used to it LOL. I recorded the chicken video yesterday and I didn't focus much on the automatic door but I will write it on my list of videos to do :-) I wouldn't actually recommend the door we have right now. Its good but not great because it calibrates every afternoon and the chooks get lock in or out for about 30 mins when the door is down. I'm going to try a different brand one day. So cool you made the move to sunny Queensland. I bet you are loving gardening in the sub tropics. So different from Tassie. Thank you so much for taking the time to message me. It means a lot :-) Deb
Great job, well done 👍 it is very amazing you were able to become food self-sufficient, and the nutritional quality is likely much better than what you were buying. You said you couldn't find any similar Aussie content creators, fyi there are two I know of, Weedy Garden & Geoff Lawton from Northern Rivers NSW, both who make very good permaculture content related to creating sustainable food forests.
Hi again! A quick question if you don’t mind? I’m wondering why you plant in raised garden beds. The property we have purchased in Jullaten has a large enclosed vege garden, which is fantastic, and i expected to be able to plant straight into the ground - as we do in Tassie. Just wondering why you chose raised garden beds 😊 Apologies if this seems like a basic question - I am not familiar with the area we are moving to… Tas to far north QLD is going to be a big learning experience! 😊 Thanks again! Katie 🌴🌱🪴
Hi Katie 🤠Easier gardening with less bending as we plan to be here for a long time. To help keep the weed seeds out and better drainage during the wet season. If there is already a veggie garden there with a fence you should be good. So exciting! Happy for questions if it helps 😁 You are asking the right questions so you will learn quickly how to grow up here 🤠
Excellent, thank you! Makes sense. I think I’ll add a few raised beds - at least, and see how we go with both planting straight into the ground and raised beds. Appreciate you! Thanks again 😊 I’m sure I’ll be in touch again when we officially move in and get to work 😉
Hi! I have a random question 😩… we just bought a property in the Daintree and the mosquitoes are insane. Do you have the same issue? If so, what do you do to control it? Love your videos 🌸
So happy you are enjoying the videos! We don't have a big problem with mossies but we do with midges. The only thing that works is repellent that I don't really like using because of the deet and the smell. The lady that owns the Mareeba Nursery has told me to try a natural product that they all use called "Natural Scents Insect Repellent". They have a web site- www.naturalscents.com.au They were all raving about how well it works and the nursery had heaps of mossies so fingers crossed🤠I have tried many natural products before and that haven't worked so we will see. Hope you are enjoying the Daintree! It must be beautiful! Have a great day and don't get bitten 🦟🤠
Hey love the Video - We are south of Townsville, been here 12 months doing the same thing but only on 1/4 acre -- with the Mill Mud do you mix it with anything else??
Hi ma’am, can you not sell excess fruit? Also if you don’t mind me asking how much did you pay for your property and how far away from the township/schools etc is it?
Hi Damian 🤠We don't really have excess fruit because we feed it back to the chickens and produce unbelievable eggs! Everything gets used up by chickens of our liquid fertiliser system😁We paid roughly 560k 2.5 years ago. We are 10 mins from Kuranda which has a small supermarket and the basics and 25 mins to the main shopping towns with Coles, Woolies, Kmart etc 🤠Have an awesome day!
